2) A small charged sphere is placed at point in an electric field that points due west
and has a magnitude of 1.60x104N/C. If the sphere experiences an electrostatic
force of 6.4N east, what is the magnitude and sign of its charge?

3) A charged oil drop has a mass of 3.6x10-12kg, and it is suspended in an electric field
of intensity 3.5x104N/C. What is the charge in the oil drop?

4) What is the number of electrons needed to give the oil drop in the previous
question the charge you calculate?

5) If electrons are accelerated across a potential difference of 3.20x102V, and the
radius of their orbit in a magnetic field is 0.256m, then what is the intensity of
that magnetic field?

6) An EM wave with a wavelength of 5.8x10-14m has what period?

7) A wire 65cm long carries a current of 20.0A, running east through a uniform
magnetic field. If the wire experiences a force of 1.2N[N], what is the magnitude
and direction of the magnetic field?

8) What is the electric force acting between two charges of +4.5x10-6C and
-3.8x10-6C when they are separated by a distance of 10m?

9) In your own words, define the following

b. Field

10) You are about to open a new business and need to select a colour scheme for your
backlighted sign. You want people to be able to see your sign clearly from a highway
some distance away. Assuming that brightness is not a problem for either colour,
should you use blue or red lettering? (Blue has a shorter wavelength than red).

11) A photon of wavelength 7.8x10-10m strikes an electron at rest, and gives off
2.9x10-17J of energy. What is the wavelength of the departing photon?

12) An electron is accelerated from rest through a potential difference of 2.2MV, so

that is acquires energy of 2.2MeV. Calculate its mass, the ratio of its mass to the
rest mass, and its speed. (1 electron volt = 1.60217646 10-19 joules)

13) Two cars meet at an intersection. Car A has a mass of 1645kg and was travelling at
60km/h at 40o counter-clockwise from North after the collision. Car B, with a mass
of 1200kg was traveling at 30km/hr at 54o counter-clockwise from North after
the collision. If car A had originally been traveling West, and car B originally
traveling North, what were their original velocities before the collision?
