WIRELESS MICROPHONES
Currently, a large number of wireless audio systems and devices operate within the frequency
range 520~820 MHz. From 31 December 2014, wireless microphones will no longer be able
to operate in the 694~820 MHz frequency range, with some media outlets reporting you may
face large fines and/or jail for use after 1 January 2015.
The new frequency range for these transmitters is 520 MHz~694 MHz and are in the same
range as Digital TV. Wireless microphones will only operate on frequencies not occupied by
Digital TV channels so they may be specific to your location. This means when you purchase
you will need to ensure the transmitter/receiver set is capable of selecting a free channel, or,
if its frequency is fixed, this frequency does not interfere with local TV broadcasts. So check
with us when purchasing if you are unsure!

FOR AUDIO AROUND THE HOUSE, TWO BRANDS HAVE EMBRACED BLUETOOTH: FORT AND RESI-LINX.
The concept of Fort is to have central audio inputs
which can be sent to one or more zones. The setup
could be audio from your TV and piped through a pair of ceiling
speakers that have nice quality audio. You can override the TVs audio
if you choose. So while getting ready for work, you might want the TV
on, but rather than listening to depressing News, you might choose to
have some relaxing audio playing at the same time.

Fort can be easily expanded to a much larger system, which

commonly embraces both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. So the Fort hub is
placed in a central location. Its hub is small, so that location could
even be the kitchen's pantry. You will place a few audio sources here.
For Apple / iPhone fans, the first audio source tends to be an
Apple Airport Express or Pro.2 WMR14. Either one of these devices
gives any room or the whole house access to Wi-Fi audio.

Since the Fort can offer multiple inputs, multiple Wi-Fi inputs are
possible, so by all means, plug in four Pro.2 WMR14s for each
member of the household! So far, we've seen that Fort is a great
solution for distributing Wi-Fi audio, but you can override the centrally
located audio source using Bluetooth. So, if the whole house is
listening to some Lana Del Rey, and the son wants to listen to some
AC/DC while studying, no problem. The Bluetooth can override the
central audio for just his room. Being Bluetooth also, you don't need a
Wi-Fi enabled device. It could be an iPod Nano, which also supports
Bluetooth. Per zone, Fort is very cheap, easy to install (single Cat5),
but also one of the most future-proofed products on the market.

An expandable Bluetooth Amplifier that can be expanded to other
amplifiers via CAT5 and also accepts an Aux input if you want to
route the TV audio or radio through the same amplifier.
The latter two allow you to use your speakers. This makes it particularly
suitable for retrofit jobs, where speakers are already in place.
The BlueSeries also allow you to rename Bluetooth devices, so you

might rename them to Bathroom, Living Room, Balcony etc. This
feature and Bluetooth makes the BlueSeries potentially the most simple
multi-room audio solution on the market. It also makes it ideal for zones
where Wi-Fi is not present, like the garden shed.

The alternative to Wi-Fi is Bluetooth. You have multiple versions of Bluetooth.
AptX is a proprietary version and marketed as CD-like quality. While I feel
uncomfortable repeating statements like CD-like quality, the improvement in
the Bluetooth standards have allowed Bluetooth to become popular for the majority.
For us, the Pro.2 BMR3X is one of the best Bluetooth receivers on the market, supporting
AptX and BT3.0, while also having a great DAC for when it's used for music. If Wi-Fi
