"CALCULATING pH ACID-BASE STRONG"

material
The influence of acids and bases to Equilibrium Water

An acid and base can be grouped based on the strength of a strong acid, weak acid,
strong base and a weak base. The proper way to determine the strength of acids
and bases is to use a substance called indicator pointer. One type of indicators used
in the determination of an acid solution alkaline by using universal indicator. The
strength of acids and bases are related to the ability of ionization in solution. The
strength of acids and bases can also be expressed in the form of figures, known as
the concept of pH.

Strong acids are acidic compounds in the solution fully ionised

into ions. Strong acid ionization reaction is a reaction
interminable. In general, strong acid ionization formulated as follows.

[H +] = (n x a) mol / L

by: n = valence acid / number of H + ions resulting from the acid ionization
a = concentration of acid
Example question:
Calculate the concentration of H + ions in a solution of 0.05 M H2SO4
Answer:
H2SO4 (aq) 2H + (aq) + SO42- (aq)
0.05 M (2 x 0.05) M
So, [H +] = 0.1 M

Strong bases are compounds in alkaline solution fully ionised

into ions. Strong base ionization reaction is a reaction to completion.

In general, a strong base ionization formulated as follows.

[OH-] = (n x b) mol / L
by: n = valence bases b = concentration of base
Example question:
1. Calculate the [OH-] are contained in 0.01 M NaOH solution
Answer:
NaOH (aq) Na + (aq) + OH- (aq)
0.01 M 0.01 M
So, [OH-] = 0.01 M or 10-2

The degree of acidity (pH)

From the description of the equilibrium constant of water can be concluded that the
amount of [H +] in a solution is one measure to determine the acidity of a solution.
To declare the level or degree of acidity of a solution, in 1910, an expert from
Denmark, Soren Sorensen Lautiz introduce a simple number. This number is
obtained from the logarithm of the concentration of H +. The numbers we are
familiar with the pH scale. Price pH range between 1-14 and written:

pH = - log [H +]

Analogous to the above, then:

pOH = - log [OH-]

pH + pOH = 14, then

pH = 14 - pOH

Example question:
Calculate the pH of:
a. strong acid solution of HCl 0.1 M!
b. strong alkaline solution of 0.1 M NaOH!
answer:

a. HCl (aq) H + (aq) + Cl- (aq)

0.1 M 0.1 M
[H +] = 0.1 M
pH = -log 0.1
= -log 10-1
=1
b. NaOH (aq) Na + (aq) + OH- (aq)
0.1 M 0.1 M
[OH-] = 0.1 M
pOH = -log 0.1
= -log 10-1
=1
pH + pOH = 14
pH + 1 = 14
pH = 14 -1 = 13

Teacher greetings to students
Menit
Before starting the lesson, the teacher asked us to pray according to
his own convictions
Teachers check attendance
Teachers provide Recap and motivation to students
Recap: "Last week we've been doing lab to determine a solution is
acidic or alkaline by using indicators and we also had an informal
discussion of the theories of acids and bases. Do you remember about
the nature of the acid and alkaline? As the electrolyte solution that
distinguished the strong electrolytes and weak electrolytes, the acid and
base solution which is an electrolyte solution is also distinguished by
acid-strong base and a weak acid-base "
Motivation: "Have you heard the word" pH "in an ad product? What is
the pH? "

CORE ACTIVITIES
Viewing:
Menit
Teachers show slides on Ion Equilibria in solution Acids And Bases
And Calculating pH of Strong Acid Solutions and Strong Bases,
students observe carefully.
The teacher tried to understand the students by providing questions
that lead students instill purpose solution concepts of acids and bases.
ask:
Teachers lure students in order to ask about things that are observed by
the students.
Teachers provide opportunities for all students to provide feedback on
what has been described.
Collecting the data:
The teacher divides the students into groups of 4-5 people and
facilitating students through the provision of duty in the form of student
worksheet (LKS)
Students are asked to work on the problems that have been given to
the discussion. Students were given 25 minutes.
Teachers assess students' attitudes in group work and guide / assess
assess skills try, use tools, and process data, and assess the student's
ability to apply concepts and principles in problem solving

Teachers guide students to take turns in the group with learning

difficulties
Educators ensure that each group has mastered the field of duty
Provide opportunities for students to gather information from other
sources (exploration)
Associate (Associating)
Students conclude the work within the group
Teachers guide / assess the student's ability to process the data and
formulate conclusions

3.

Communicating (Communicating)
Students are responsible for bringing together their opinions to find
answers in discussions and convince each member in the group really
know the answer to the group. Between students should be
communicative.
The teacher pointed to several groups to present the results of their
discussion of data. (each group was given 5 minutes)
Teachers assess students' ability to communicate verbally.
Teachers provide opportunities for other groups to respond to the
results of the group menyaji.
Teachers provide positive feedback and reinforcement in the form of
oral, written or gifts for student success. 70 Minutes

ACTIVITY END
Teachers together students draw conclusions from the discussion
today.
The teacher announces the best group and give awards.
Teachers provide advice so that students continue to improve their
knowledge (science appreciate).
Teachers provide the ultimate test independently and students are not
allowed to work together to determine the extent of students'
understanding of the material that has been studied (Teacher training
discipline). (students are given 5 minutes to do the problem)
Teachers give assignments to students about the material read further.
