development of management theories, relation among management, administration and
organization, principles of management, modern management thoughts, management in the
future.
Business: Common features of business enterprises, types of ownership, single ownership,
partnership, joint Stock Company, cooperative society, public sector, private sector.
Organization: Introduction, organization structure, types of organization, span of control,
departmentation.
Personnel Management: Manpower planning, recruitment and training, leadership style and
types, morale and its importance, motivation, theories of motivation, job rotation, job
enlargement and job enrichment.
Job Evaluation: Definition, aspects, uses, different methods of job evaluation: Ranking system,
grade description system, point method, factor comparison method.
Wage Incentive Plans: Characteristics of wage; unit of measurement, various methods;
Incentive schemes; different wage incentive plans.
Budgeting: Budget, budget classification, budget revision and re-allocation, budgetary control,
types of expenditure and cost control through budgeting.
Business Communication: Communication functions in organization, communication process,
effective communication, and electronic media in communication.
Industry and Research Associations: Brief profile and role of Industry Associations such as

Introduction: Historical evolution of production and operations Management; Strategic role of
operations, trends in operations management, process and control of operations strategies.
Work Study: Definition, objectives, and techniques, purpose of work study, steps and different
phases.
Method Study: Definition, steps, selection of problems, collection of facts and consideration
about objectives, recording techniques, elements of a process analysis, different process charts.
Motion Study: Definition, motion analysis, micro motion study; Therbligs; Simo chart;
principles of motion economy, Examples from Textile and Apparel industries.
Work Measurement: Definition, uses, techniques; measuring instruments and elements in time
study, alignment chart, Performance rating methods, observed time and normal time ,
allowances, standard time; Work sampling; Predetermined time study, Motion time data for
assembly operations related to textile industry.
Facility Location and Layout: Introduction, general procedures for facility location, evaluation
of location alternatives, layout concepts and types, developing the different types of layouts, line
balancing, safety considerations and OSHA, layout design for Textile and Apparel industries.
Inventory Management: Concepts, inventory reduction tactics, ABC analysis, different types of
inventory models e.g., EOQ, EPQ, etc., inventory models allowing shortages and price discounts,
determination of safety stock, different types of inventory review systems. Concepts of lean
manufacturing and JIT.
Resource Planning: Overview of resource planning, Material Requirement Planning (MRP),
