Wireless Network Configuration for Microsoft Windows 8 & 8.

Follow these steps to setup Staff or Students Wireless Network on Microsoft Windows 8 or 8.1:
(Make sure Wi-Fi is turned ON in your Laptop)
1. Open Control Panel. Then change "View by: to Large icons so the Icons will appear as below.

2. Open "Network and Sharing Center". Select "Set up a new connection or network"

3. When the dialog box opens select "Manually connect to a wireless network" and click next.

4. The "Manually connect to a wireless network" dialog box appears. Make the following entries in
that box.
a. Enter "staff" or students as the "Network name".
b. Select "WPA2-Enterprise" as the "Security type".
c. Select "AES" as the "Encryption type".
The dialog box will look like:

5. Click Next.

6. When the following dialog box appears, click on "Change connection settings".

7. The "staff or students Wireless Network Properties" dialog box will appear.

8. Click on the "Security" tab. Verify that the dialog box looks like the one below. Make
appropriate changes if required.

9. Click on the "Settings" button to display the next dialog box.

10. Make sure the "Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate" and Enable Fast
Reconnect is not checked. Click the "Configure..." button.

11. Verify the "When connecting" box is not checked.

12. Click "OK" three times to complete the changes. The "Manually connect to a wireless network"
dialog box will appear and will indicate that staff or students has been successfully added.

13. Click the "Close" button.


14. Turn OFF and Turn ON your Wi-Fi in your Laptop for updating Wireless configuration changes.
(Refer your Laptop User Manual to find out how to turn OFF/ON Wi-Fi if required). This step is
not mandatory.

15. Go to the lower right corner of the Start screen. Click there to display the charms then select
"Settings".

16. When the "Settings" display, click on the "Available" charm.

17. The list of available wireless networks will appear. Staff or Students is the preferred secure
wireless network to use. Click staff or students.

18. Verify that "Connect automatically" is checked. Then click on "Connect".

19. A "Network Authentication" dialog box will appear.


a. Enter username as staff1 and password as pass123$ for staff Wireless Network.
b. Enter username as student1 and password as login123$ for students Wireless Network.
c. Click OK.
Note: In the future every user will be given individual usernames and passwords. You may
have to enter those credentials in the future.

20. You may have to repeat the authentication process (steps 21 through 23) as many as four times
to make the connection work correctly.
21. Look at the Wireless Network settings to verify the connection is completed.

Change Proxy Server settings in Internet Explorer


1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.
4. Select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
5. In the Address box, type proxy1.gitam.edu or proxy2.gitam.edu as the proxy server.
6. In the Port box, type 3128 as port number.
7. Select the "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" check box.
8. When you are finished making changes, click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.

Change Proxy Server settings in Firefox


1. Open Firefox.
2. Open the Firefox Menu and select Options.
3. In the Options window click on the Advanced icon.
4. Select the Network Tab.
5. In the Connection section click the Settings button.
6. Click Manual proxy configuration.
7. In the HTTP Proxy box, type proxy1.gitam.edu or proxy2.gitam.edu as the proxy server.
8. In the Port box, type 3128 as port number
9. Select "Use this proxy server for all protocols" check box.
10. Close the Connection Settings and Options windows by clicking on the OK button
