Dear Colleague:
I would like to thank the entire reform caucus for your letter regarding my campaign to
become Speaker. I share many of your views. In my letter to you yesterday, I said I
would work with you to liberalize the Assembly and I will.
There are some reforms that can be done immediately; others must be done in a very
deliberate fashion so that we retain the power of our institution. Reforms such as
equitable allocation of resources and term limits for committee chairs and for the Speaker
are ideas I consider important to pursue. Additionally, I am in full support of appointing a
task force on reform. While reform is certainly something I support we also need to
ensure our speaker has the ability to negotiate from a position of strength with the
Governor and the Senate Majority Leader.
I hope you press for an immediate response to your letter from all the candidates. Time is
of the essence. In the meantime, I am enjoying this process. It is a healthy one and I look
forward to working with you as our great institutions moves forward.
Sincerely,

Joseph R. Lentol
