Are there any celebrities you admire for their charity work? Name the
celebrities and their charities.

Bono (Paul David Hewson) Charity Work, Events and Causes


Bono is an Irish singer, philanthropist, musician and capitalist. He is famously
known for his role as the lead vocalist for the Rock Band U2. Bono is widely
known for his activism on various issues affecting Africa and other parts of the
world. Bono has direct contact with various world leaders and policy makers
and he uses this influence to make the world a better place.
Bono's first inspiration towards charity work, events and causes came in the
year 1979. The show, "Return of The Secret Policemen's
Ball", inspired him into his philanthropic ventures. The show
was aimed at creating awareness to The UK version of
Amnesty International.
His first charity cause came in 1986 when he collaborated
with world vision in the development of education programs
in Ethiopia aimed at creating awareness on better health and
hygiene. In the same year, he also visited Nicaragua and El
salvador with the aim to draw attention to the various
conflicts in the region.
Bono also participated in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. He
achieved this by participating in Steve van Zandt's initiative dubbed "Artists
Against Apartheid". His single, "Silver and Gold" was released at that time to
raise awareness against apartheid. He also participated in the release of
another single "Sun City" by Steve van Zandt's for the same cause. In 1993,
Bono, in collaboration with The Edge held a festival in Hamburg Germany that
was directed towards the fight against racism.
Bono's philanthropic work towards eradication of poverty in poor countries has
seen him contribute in the creation various campaigns such as ONE
campaign, EDUN and DATA. ONE campaign aims at rallying Americans in
the fight against world poverty and HIV/AIDS. EDUN, on the other hand, was
founded by Bono and Ali Hewson in 2005 with the aim of creating sustainable
employment in developing countries. It specializes in Organic Clothing, Graphic
Tees, and Eco Clothing.
In recognition of his contribution to making the world a better place, Bono has
received three nominations to the Nobel Peace Prize and was also made a
Knight in 2007. Bono is a huge contributor to charity causes and events and
this here is just a piece of the iceberg. Kudos to him.
