THE THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

JANUARY 25, 2015

Where is the Sanctuary Lamp?

to be refinished after the fire. Some of them were

used by the police as evidence and had stickers attached to them for identification. But where is the
Sanctuary Lamp? It is still being refinished and
will be completed in the coming weeks.

We remember the Catholic Teaching on

the host or chalice in Holy Communion.

Since Christ is sacramentally present under each of
the species, communion under the species of bread
alone makes it possible to receive all the fruit of
Eucharistic grace. For pastoral reasons this man-

ner of receiving communion has been legitimately

established as the most common form in the Latin
rite.
During this time, the Communion procession
will proceed the entire length of the church, to
the front, to receive Holy Communion. I ask
for you timely cooperation in this matter.

SANTA SOPHIA ACADEMY would like to thank all of our parishioners who were able to clean out
their closets and donate to our textile fundraiser. We exceeded our goal and made a total of
$516.64 by collecting a total of 5,176 pounds!! WOW!!
WE THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR SUPPORTING YOUR PARISH SCHOOL!
SANTA SOPHIA ACADEMY is pleased to announce CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK this week of January 25th 30th. Santa Sophia Academy is a Community of Faith, Knowledge, and Service. Our students,
parents, and staff Seek Wisdom + Live Virtue + Encounter Christ each and every day! As we strive for excellence in Catholic Education for every student, our great success story of our school is that we teach our
students to live, talk, and act as Jesus did; that message comes through in all that we do and undertake.
This upcoming week is the nationwide celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Approximately 8,300 Catholic Schools nationwide join us as we celebrate this special week. Catholic Schools Week, established in
1974, recognizes the valuable contribution our schools make to the church, community and country.
More than 2.6 million students are enrolled in the Catholic Schools network. Numerous studies show that
parents place their children in Catholic Schools for several reasons: for a total education which includes
growth in religion awareness and an appreciation of morals and values; the superior academic performance
of Catholic school students, and for their secure and disciplined learning environment.
During this week we celebrate our school's heritage and contributions. Our students will be reading at all
of the masses this weekend as we begin our week of celebrations with an Open House on Sunday, January
25th in the classrooms from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. Please come over to the Academy and Preschool to learn
more about YOUR parish Catholic school. We extend a special note of thanks to our parishioners who so
generously support the work of Santa Sophia Academy.

THE THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

O Jesus,
I pray for your faithful and; fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests;
For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields.
For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests;
For your young priests; For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to you
The priests dearest to me;
The priest who baptized me;
The priests who absolved me from my sins;
The priests at whose Masses
I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
The priests who taught and instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted
in any other way
(especially...)
O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,
And bless them abundantly
in time and in Eternity,

Amen

THE THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

SENIOR CORNER
BEWARE: IT IS FLU SEASON
Take everyday preventive actions to stop the
spread of germs.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people. If you
are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that
you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever
is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the
use of a fever-reducing medicine). While sick, limit
contact with others as much as possible to keep
from infecting them.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you
cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after
you use it. Wash your hands often with soap and
water. If soap and water are not available, use
an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs
spread this way. Clean and disinfect surfaces and
objects that may be contaminated with germs like
the flu. Take flu antiviral drugs if your doctor prescribes them.

If you get the flu, antiviral drugs can treat your illness. Antiviral drugs are different from antibiotics.
They are prescription medicines (pills, liquid or an
inhaled powder) and are not available over-thecounter. Antiviral drugs can make illness milder
and shorten the time you are sick. They may also
prevent serious flu complications. Studies show that
flu antiviral drugs work best for treatment when
they are started within 2 days of getting sick, but
starting them later can still be helpful, especially if
the sick person has a high-risk health condition or
is very sick from the flu. Follow your doctors instructions for taking this drug.
Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore
throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache,
chills and fatigue. Some people also may have vomiting and diarrhea. People may be infected with the
flu, and have respiratory symptoms without a fever.
