The request for the purchase of a defibrillator was answered. With the generosity of two parishioners, we are
able to purchase two defibrillators.

They will be

shipped this month. Thank you for the security of

knowing we have this life saving equipment at Santa
Sophia.
Another parishioner requested ten Mass intentions
throughout the year for the various volunteer ministry
groups that offer so much of their time. You will see the
intentions in the bulletins throughout the year. Thank

those involved with this Ministry, we
would like to thank you for your incredibly generosity. This past weekend we
collected more than $500.00 in new and used school
supplies. Pencils, pens, crayons, backpacks, paper, notebooks, even pencil sharpeners and calculators! Truly
amazing. We brought all the donated items to Tecate
last weekend.

Thank you and God Bless, Ed Reidy

THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Daily Prayer for Priests

O Jesus,
I pray for your faithful and; fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests;
For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields.
For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests;
For your young priests; For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to you
The priests dearest to me;
The priest who baptized me;
The priests who absolved me from my sins;
The priests at whose Masses
I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
The priests who taught and instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted
in any other way
(especially...)
O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,
And bless them abundantly
in time and in Eternity,

Amen

The Nice Guys have been a part of San Diego since

1979, helping local families and individuals who,
through no fault of their own, have fallen on tough
times. Their goal is to help get people back on their
feet and be self-sufficient. Every December, members of the Santa Sophia SVDP work with the Nice
Guys to provide cookies for their annual Christmas
party. In appreciation of this effort, the Nice Guys
donate to our pantry.
This year we received:
964 pounds of non-perishable groceries

913 pounds of frozen ground chicken

460 pounds of frozen roasted turkey breasts

84 liter bottles of soda

5 cases of water

Thank you Nice Guys!

Catholic Technology
Today, many of the parishioners sitting in the pews
have a smart phone. You may even notice some of
them having them out during Mass. Yes, they are
actually using their phone as a prayer book. Here
are some apps that can be used for prayer:
iBreviary. iBreviary was one of the first
Catholic smartphone apps available, and
I think its still one of the most handy
apps to have on your phone. As you
might guess from its name, it provides
you with an electronic breviary, the
book used to pray the Liturgy of the
Hours. And, on top of eliminating the
need to carry your breviary around with you all the
time, it also cues up the prayers for the day, eliminating the need to coordinate ribbons and flip back
and forth in a book.
A few other apps offer a breviary function, but
iBreviary is the only free one I know of that uses
the same translations for the psalms and prayers as
a paper breviary. Very handy when praying with
other people.
On top of replacing your breviary, it also provides
the Mass readings of the day, a short saint biography on feast days (click the picture of the saint on
the opening screen), and many prayers and blessings. You know all those books priests use for celebrating Mass, baptizing babies, and blessing motorcycles? Theres an app for that, and its called
iBreviary.
iMissal
iMissal is the highly acclaimed Catholic
reference application for your favorite
mobile devices and Mac computers. It
has been one of the top selling Catholic
applications since its inception. iMissal
is not merely a Catholic missal but multiple applications rolled into one.
This app has four sections: Missal with daily Mass
readings, My Daily Bread with daily Bible verses,
Prayers with a collection of prayers, and Catholic
News. This app is usually priced at $4.99.
