Beloved in Christ the Lord, you have heard that God commanded that children
of believing parents are to be baptized. That it may, then, be clear that you are
thus minded, please stand and answer sincerely to these questions:
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and affirm the
truth of the Christian faith, which is proclaimed in the Bible and in this
Church?
Answer. We do.
Do you believe the biblical teaching that, because God has given you
faith and saved you, that, although our children are conceived and born
in sin and therefore subject to condemnation, they are separated in
Christ and, as members of his Church, ought to be baptized?
Answer. We do.
Do you promise, in reliance upon God and with the help of the Christian
community, to do all in your power to instruct this child in the Christian
faith; to pray with and for your child, to set an example of piety and
godliness before him and to endeavor by all the means of Gods
appointment to bring him up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
Answer. We do.
The minister shall then address the congregation, asking the members to
rise and to answer the following:
Do you, the people of the Lord, promise to receive this child in love,
pray for him, help care for their instruction in the faith and encourage
and sustain him in the fellowship of believers; and as a congregation do
you bind yourselves to assist in the instruction of this child?
If so, please answer
The congregation answers: We do so promise.
[Baptism follows, concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving and requests]
