Planetary Deaths (Maran Karak Sthan)

A planet when placed in a particular house that reduces its vitality and causes its suffocation is said to be in
death zone or Maran Karak Sthan. In this house, the said planet is extremely ill placed and ill effects are seen not
just for the significations of that house, but also for the houses of which the said planet is the natural karak.
While analyzing a chart, it is very important to see if any of the planets is in death zone, as it completely
changes the effects produced.
Saturn (1st House): Natural karaka of 1st house is Sun and this house represents soul of the native. Sun
signifies health, energy, spirituality, authority and vigor. As is clearly mentioned in the Bhagwad Gita Sun is the
universal soul i.e. Sun is the soul of the universe. Saturn is low in energy and lethargic. Sun represents Ruler and
Saturn represents Slave. Saturn in first house is in Maran Karak Sthan (death zone) and if it is placed in 1st
house, adverse effects are seen in 6, 8, 10, 12 houses.
Rahu (9th House): Natural karakas of 9th house are Jupiter and Sun. Sun is the Satya and Jupiter is the
knowledge and dharma; Rahu is absence of dharma. 9th house is place where religious bent of mind, noble
deeds, fortune are seen and placement of Rahu here indicates reversal of Dharma or embracement of adharma
leading one to gross materialism and unending hunger for worldly, unsatiable desires.
Mars (7th house): Natural karaka of 7th house is Venus. 7th house signifies marriage and business
partnerships, whereas Mars, as the natural karaka of 6th house, promotes celibacy and service. So placement of
Mars in 7th house means Mars is in its death zone. It will bring aggression, war, loss of temper and excessive
energy in to the marriage or business partnership, and the significations of 7th house will suffer eventually. Mars
tends to participate in battles and marriage is all about nurturing and maintaining of balance. If Mars is placed in
7th house, 3 and 6 house will get affected adversely as their natural karaka (Mars) is in death zone i.e. Maran
Karak Sthan.
Moon (8th house): Natural karaka of 8th house is Saturn. Moon placed here is in Maran Karak Sthan (Death
Zone) as it promotes health and well being, whereas Saturn signifies sufferings. If Moon is placed in 8th house,
4th house also gets affected being the natural house of Moon.
Mercury (4th & 7th house): Natural karaka of 4th house is Moon, and 4th house deals with emotions and
happiness. Mercury placed in this house brings in intellect, analysis and understanding. Emotions and analysis
are mutually opposite entities; emotions can get a jolt if too much analysis is given the causality and effects of
emotions. 7th house is the house of marriage and sexuality whereas Mercury being an adolescent planet, is not
fit to deal with such energies. There are different theories about the validity of 7th house being death zone for
Mercury as some say that Mercury is easily adaptible planet and more research is required to frame a principle
over this aspect.

If Mercury is placed in 4th house, 10th house also gets affected being the natural house of

Mercury.
Venus (6th house): Natural karaka of 6th house is Mars. Venus placed here is not comfortable at all as 6th
house is the house of celibacy and service, whereas Venus is significator of love, marriage and business. If
Venus is placed in 6th house, 7th house also gets affected being the natural house of Venus.
Sun (12th house): Natural karaka of 12th house is Saturn. 12th house signifies sleep, losses, loss of health
whereas Sun signifies energy, good health and creativity. Hence 12th house is the death zone i.e. Maran Karak
Sthan for Sun. If Sun is placed in 12th house, 1, 9, 10 house also gets affected being the natural house of Sun.
Jupiter (3rd House): Natural karak of 3rd house is Mars. 3rd house is the first house of desires (3,7,11) and is
the house where urges initiate. Jupiter is ill placed here as Jupiter is the karak for 11th house which gives the
results of desires (house of gains). If Jupiter is placed in 3rd house, 2, 5, 9, 11 house also gets affected being the
natural house of Moon.
