Cugnot
31 Jan 1769
Nicolas Cugnot, a French military engineer developed a
steam powered road-vehicle for the French army to haul
heavy cannons.
Using a steam engine fixed to a three-wheeled cart,
Cugnot successfully converted the back-and-forth action
of a steam piston into rotary motion.
31 Jan 1801
Richard Trevithick improved the design of steam
engines, by making smaller and lighter with stronger
boilers generating more power. In 1801, he put one of
his new compact steam engines on wheels.
The First "Real Thing"

What some people define as the first "real" automobile
was produced by Amde Bolle in 1873, who built selfpropelled steam road vehicles to transport groups of
passengers.
Key Development

Working for Cadillacs design and development
department, Charles Kettering invented the electric
ignition and starter motor. Cars could now start
themselves.
Kettering later introduced independent suspension, and
four-wheel brakes. And By 1930, most of the technology
used in automobiles today had already been invented.

Bell. He said his boat moved like a skitterbug moving

ballon, first time people had flown.

The Wright Brothers flew the first ever plane 120 feet,
did not catch on until later though.

the VS-300, the world's first practical helicopter, took
flight at Stratford, Connecticut. Designed by Igor
Sikorsky and built by the Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft
Division of the United Aircraft Corporation,
the helicopter was this first to incorporate a single main
rotor and tail rotor design.

This flight inspired commercial airlines to begin, in a
few years most major nations had commercial airlines.
1970 - 2000
Concorde, G-BOAB, in storage atLondon Heathrow
Airport following the end of all Concorde flying. This
aircraft flew for 22,296 hours between its first flight in
1976 and final flight in 2000.
