DONGLE INFORMATION FOR CUSTOMERS

Supplementary to the information about our software provided on the installation DVD, we would like to inform you of the
purpose and use of the USB dongles included in the delivery of our software packages. PTV AG uses so-called dongles to protect
its Vision Traffic Suite software against unlicensed use. A dongle is an USB stick with a code key that during the use of Vision
Traffic Suite software must be connected to the USB port of a computer / laptop.
Basically a dongle allows the direct use of our software at your workstation or via a network. Depending on your Vision Traffic
Suite software license, the dongle may contain the license key for one or several of our products.
A dongle is equivalent to a software license! This means that if you lose the dongle (USB stick) you lose your complete
software license!

INTRODUCTION

1.1 PTV AG uses 2 types of dongles

Single workplace dongles
allowing you to use the software on a single PC or laptop and
Network or multi-user dongles
allowing you to use the software on a PC or laptop via a network connection.
The network dongles name normally contains a number in square brackets that indicates the number of activated
licenses (users) for the dongle.

1.2 Hardware differences of the 2 dongle types:

LPT Hardlock
The first dongles PTV used were LPT dongles (of the Hardlock type by
Aladdin). They were connected to the parallel interface of the computer.
The workplace dongles of this type are black.

USB Hardlock
In the meantime PTV AG has switched to using USB dongles (of the Hardlock
type by Aladdin) that are connected to the computer via USB connection. In
this case the workplace dongles are blue (see Fig. 2). The network dongles
are green (see Fig. 3).

USB CodeMeter
Switching to a new type of USB dongle (of the type CodeMeter by WIBU
SYSTEMS) represented another step in the further development of PTV AG.
In this case the workplace dongles and network dongles are both silver (or
grey / see Fig. 4). The CodeMeter dongle provides a few advantages over
the previously used USB dongles. Read more about CodeMeter dongles in
chapter 2.2.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

2.1 Hardlock
Hardlock dongles are USB dongles today, see Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.
2.1.1
Workplace Dongle (Hardlock)
This dongle type (see Fig. 2) covers most application cases. The Vision Traffic Suite software must be installed on every
computer where a user wants to use it on. The dongle is connected to the PC on which the Vision Traffic Suite software is used.
Several instances of the licensed software can be opened simultaneously.
If you want the use the software on another computer, you have to connect the dongle to it.
2.1.2
Network Dongle (Hardlock)
This type of dongle is especially meant for offices, lecture halls or remote workplaces. The dongle is connected to the computer
that serves as a central Hardlock dongle server (corresponding server software must be installed; see manual). Users can work
with the Vision Traffic Suite software at a remote workplace. A precondition for use is network access to the Hardlock dongle
server.
The Vision Traffic Suite software must be installed on every computer a user wants to use it on. Only as many instances can be
opened, as the amount of licenses are activated. If the dongle shall be used at a single workplace that is not connected to a
network (e.g. employee of sales force), a network must be simulated. Microsoft provides special software for this case.
A continuous connection to the Hardlock dongle server must be maintained, otherwise the Vision Traffic Suite software will be
ended without a warning.

2.2 CodeMeter
CodeMeter dongles are USB dongles (see Fig. 4) with integrated Flash memory.
There is no difference between workplace dongles or network dongles dongles. CodeMeter dongles can be programmed for both
functions. CodeMeter dongles can be administrated remotely.
2.2.1
CodeMeter as Workplace Dongle
This dongle type is used for most application cases. The dongle is connected to the computer the user wants to use his programs
on. It does not matter whether the computer is connected to a network or not. You can open as many instances as you wish
with the licenses on the dongle.
2.2.2
CodeMeter as Network Dongle
This type of dongle is especially meant for offices, lecture halls or remote workplaces. The dongle is connected to the computer
that serves as a central CodeMeter dongle server (corresponding software is automatically installed; see manual). In this case
network access to the CodeMeter dongle server is a precondition for use.
The number of workstations that can access the licenses of the CodeMeter network dongles corresponds to the number of
activated licenses (users) on the dongle. Unlike the Hardlock network dongles, the CodeMeter network dongles allows you to
open as many instances as you wish on a workstation.
If the dongle is meant to be used at a single workplace, no additional software or network connection is required.

DONGLE LICENSE NUMBERS AND EXAMPLES

3.1 Hardlock license numbers

Hardlock dongle license numbers consist of 2 parts:
Dongle number:
this number has 5 digits and always starts with 288 (e.g. 28885)
License ID:
has 6 digits (e.g. 200701 or 200802)
The whole license number has two parts, e.g. 28885 / 200701

3.2 CodeMeter license numbers

CodeMeter dongle numbers have 9 digits and always start with 900 (e.g. 900200701 or 900200802).
But unlike with Hardlock dongles, with CodeMeter dongles the software is no longer distinguished through numbers!

3.3 Example 1:
LargeCompany Ltd (PTV customer ID 302007) has 3 licenses for PTV VISSIM and wants to use them centrally within the company
network. We send them the following dongle (Hardlock):
1 x NWD 28887.0 / 200701 [3]

3.4 Example 2:
The engineering office PlanWell (PTV customer ID 302008) has 2 licenses for the Vision Traffic Suite software packages Planning
and Simulation which consist of the software PTV VISSIM and PTV PTV Visum. The two software packages shall be used on two
different computers. We send them the following dongles (Hardlock): 2 x SDO 28885 / 200801

3.5 Example 3:
The public transport companies of ExampleCity (PTV customer ID 302007) have purchased the Vision Traffic Suite software
package Planning and Simulation that consists of PTV Vissim and PTV Visum, plus a single PTV Visum license. All employees of
an office shall use the licenses. We send them the following dongle (CodeMeter): 1 x NWD 900200701

The CodeMeter dongle contains the following licenses:

1 x PTV Visum
1 x software package PTV Visum and PTV VISSIM

EXCHANGE OR REPLACEMENT OF OLD OR DEFECT DONGLES

Often the continuous development of hardware makes it necessary to exchange a dongle. If you want to exchange an old LPT
dongle for a USB dongle, or replace a defect dongle, we charge EUR 125,- per dongle (hardware, packaging, disposal of
hardware) - plus another EUR 125,- per delivery (administration and UPS delivery service). As a matter of principle, the
deliveries of new dongles are carried out by UPS courier service.
You can place such an order with our Traffic Customer Service. Please always state the number of dongles required and the
corresponding dongle or license number. Please only send your old or defect dongle by courier service to the Traffic Customer
Service, after you have received your new one. A software maintenance agreement covers the exchange of old or defect
dongles.

DONGLE LOSS:

Please be aware that the loss of a dongle means the loss of the corresponding software license.
We thus recommend that you insure yourself against the loss, as against the loss of other capital equipment. Our software
maintenance contract does not cover the loss of a software license (or the corresponding dongle)!
Should you lose your software license, PTV AG must issue a completely new one, including a new dongle, and assign a new
license number. The costs arising for this can strongly vary from case to case and are thus calculated accordingly. They
generally cannot be compared to the costs for a dongle exchange.

64BIT EDITIONS

6.1 Introduction
Since a few years, computers are provided with 64bit architecture. The biggest advantage of such hardware is the larger
amount of data which can be processed at a time and the bigger size or memory which can be addressed (more than 3 GB). The

operating system (Windows XP, 64-Bit, Windows Server operating systems, Windows Vista, 64bit, Windows 7, Windows 8) has to
support the architecture. Any software which wants to use the 64bit has to support the architecture as well. With the
introduction of Vision Traffic Suite PTV Visum 10.0 and PTV Vissim 5.20, respectively, we offer a 64-Bit edition to our users.

6.2 Requirements
Besides the requirement to have at least version 10.0 of PTV Visum and version 5.20 of PTV VISSIM, it is absolutely necessary to
have a CodeMeter dongle for your licenses. The Hardlock dongles are not supported by the 64bit editions of our Vision Traffic
Suite software. In case you want to request a 64bit edition and you are using Hardlock dongles, you need to switch to
CodeMeter dongles. This required to switch the dongles from Hardlock to CodeMeter. This action requires to newly install all
Vision Traffic Suite software. As another condition, the CodeMeter dongle will be supported only by the following software
versions:
PTV PTV Visum starting with version 9.5 or later
PTV PTV Vissim starting with version 4.3 or later
VISEM version 8.1
VisEVA version 4.5 and
Crossig version 4.2
Please remind the software packages dependencies because Vision Traffic Suite software packages depends on dongles (same
package, same dongle).
