Introduction

The objective of these papers is to give the general public an insight into the basic principles
involved in Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra's Neurotherapy, and, to explain in simple words, how the
therapy achieves its cures. It also throws light on the unique approach of the creator of this
therapy in using his experience, along with the knowledge offered by Medical Physiology, to
arrive at a drug-less panacea for almost all ailments. The use of technical words has been
avoided, so as to make this paper easily understood by a larger section of people.
For detailed explanations, the reader is invited to attend any of the training sessions which are
periodically conducted at Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra's Neurotherapy Academy, Suryamal, Maharashtra,
or by any of the therapists trained by him.
Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra's Neurotherapy, (abbreviated in this paper as LMNT), is a unique and
original therapy, which offers a medicine-less cure for all ailments. It uses different types of
techniques to stimulate the internal organs directly and thus rid the body of the very roots of the
disease. Though it may appear to be similar to acupressure, in reality it has nothing in common
with acupressure, or with any other known form of alternative therapy. To date, there are at least
650 centres in various parts of India, where persons trained in LMNT, are bringing relief to
hundreds of people daily. Many of these people belong to the less-privileged class of society.
Often they cannot afford costly treatments offered by many health professions. A handful of Dr.
Mehra's students are also practicing this therapy successfully in UK, Australia, USA, Bulgaria &
Italy, in places where there is an Indian population.
The father and creator of LMNT, is Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra, of Mumbai, India, who is the pioneer of
this drugless therapy. With his vast experience and knowledge, he has been perfecting and honing
the methods used in LMNT by constant and untiring research over the past 69 years. As a result,
over the years, he has cured more than a lakh patients, suffering from a variety of ailments, using
this therapy alone.
Dr. Mehra claims he has no formal education in modern medicine. But, several doctors have
found that he has an enviably phenomenal knowledge of anatomy and physiology, on account of
his constant browsing over books on the subject. His most favourite book is Medical Physiology
by Guyton, a book which he has read several times over and over again, but question him about
his educational background, and he will smile in all humility saying, "I know but very little".
The uniqueness of Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra's Neurotherapy lies in the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

It sets right the root-cause, i.e., the body's tendency to become diseased, by correcting
the internal organs, so that they start functioning normally.
It has its own methods of diagnosis, but also integrates the knowledge obtained from
modern investigations, such as Blood tests, X-Ray reports etc.
It uses the findings of Medical Physiology, but views them from a uniquely different and
refreshing approach, one that negates the use of medicines or drugs.
Being a medicine-less therapy, it obviously has absolutely no side-effects and is
inexpensive.
The therapy is simple to learn and can be practiced by all.
It can be taught 'en-masse' to people of all ages.
The therapy is scientific in that its methods can be repeated over and over again, with
identical results.
The same results can be duplicated - irrespective of the therapist's age, sex, height, bodyweight etc.

The 'Chemistry' of Illnesses

Before we come to the functioning of the therapy, let us see what causes a body to become ill.
All diseases arise because the homeostasis (biochemical balance) is disturbed in the human
system. This leads to:
a disturbance in various parameters of the internal environment such as, acidity /
alkalinity, BP, sugar, temperature etc. Or

an imbalance in the level of hormones, enzymes, antigens, antibodies etc., in the system.
Treatment by LMNT restores this disturbed biochemical balance by stimulating the various
organs to function normally to produce the required chemicals in optimum quantities.
The unique and original contribution of Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra, in curing diseases, is based on the
following simple observation:
The correct performance of ALL glands and organs is dependent wholly on the correct
functioning of the digestive system (including the accessory organs of digestion). Then and only
then, the raw materials for each and every gland will be properly produced in the correct quantity
and at the correct time.
Physiology and the Body
Our body as we all know, is a veritable chemical factory. Its liver and pancreas are responsible
for producing a huge number of chemicals, many of which function as raw materials for the
enzymes and hormones produced by the other glands of the body.
And the liver and pancreas can produce these chemicals in the correct quantity and at the right
time, only if the following conditions are fulfilled:a.
The food should contain a proper mix of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals
and roughage.
b.
The various ingredients of food should be properly digested.
c.
The digested products should be properly absorbed into the GIT and stored properly.
d.
The excretion of waste matter both solid as well as liquid takes place correctly.
e.
There is proper transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide through the lungs
For these conditions to be fulfilled, the following criteria must be met:
a.
The person should eat sensibly i.e., a balanced diet and drink water in the correct
manner and quantity.
b.
The various organs of digestion namely, the salivary glands, the stomach, the liver and
pancreas should digest the food properly.
c.
The small intestine (duodenum, jejunum and the ileum) should function perfectly so that
proper absorption of nutrients takes place.
d.
The kidneys, skin and large intestine should carry out their functions properly, so that
complete removal of waste products takes place on a daily basis.
e.
The lungs should function properly and one should practice correct breathing techniques
for maximum utilization of oxygen.
If the above five are ensured, it is almost next to impossible that a healthy person will fall ill.
Lmnt A novel approach to diseases and their cure
So it is small wonder that in LMNT great importance is paid to setting right the abdomen and
associated organs. For, therein lies the key to proper health. And by doing so, the body gets free
from its diseased state and returns to its earlier state of 'disease-less-ness'.
In LMNT, Dr. Mehras approach to setting right the body is really very simple. First step is to
locate those organs of the digestive system, which are not functioning properly. And, to ascertain
this, he uses a well-known, simple fact: Whenever the blood supply to any organ or part is
interrupted, it manifests itself as pain or numbness in that part. The reduced blood supply in
turn, would cause that organ to function less effectively than before.
The truth of this statement is obvious. All of us know that if we sit in a stooping or slouched
posture for a considerable length of time, it invariably leads to a dull pain in some part of the
body, especially the back. This in turn, forces us to shift our position, thereby restoring the blood
supply to bring relief from the pain.

If we reverse this maxim, we can conclude that if the pain in any particular part is relieved, it
means that the blood supply to that part has been restored. This is equally true of the internal
organs.
The Organs of Digestion The Key to Good Health
There are several factors which combine to reduce the blood supply to our organs of digestion,
by diverting a major part of the blood to our limbs, brain etc at the cost of digestion. **(See
note at end)
Insufficient blood supply to the organs of digestion makes them sluggish and prevents them from
carrying out their duties and functions fully. This, in turn, affects the working of the endocrine
glands, because these are dependent on their raw material from the end products of digestion.
This, in turn, gives rise to different recognizable symptoms which culminates in the appearance
of one disease or another.
With this knowledge, one can easily understand how different permutations and combi-nations of
varying levels of sluggishness give rise to the myriad of names of thousands of diseases.
However the truth is, that whatever be the name of the disease, it is caused by different degrees
of imperfection of, only a handful of organs.
This is verily the root cause of almost EVERY disease that afflicts the human race.
If the root cause is tackled properly, then we have weeded out the very tendency of the body to
mal-function. It is this TENDENCY, which is the root cause, which is really responsible for a
chain of events starting with a gradual decrease in the functioning and performance of one or
more organs, and finally culminating in a recognizable disorder.
LIt stands to reason therefore, that one has to do nothing but restore the disturbed blood supply to
the concerned organ and it would start functioning fully normally as before. Since it was
functioning well before the diseased state there is no reason why it should not do so once the
root cause has been dealt with / or has been eliminated.
In LMNT, we do this mainly at a physiological level. Yoga too, does the same job, but it differs,
in that it addresses the mind also.
How then can one find out, which organ is not receiving proper blood supply?
Quite simple, really! Dr. Mehra uses a technique of applying a gentle inward pressure (with his
fingers/palm), at specific points around the navel. By doing so, it is quite easy to ascertain which
parts of the abdomen are paining or are tender. And as explained above, pain in an area indicates
some disturbance in the blood flow to that area, and associated organ(s).
Once we have established the area of improper blood flow, we have to correlate the information
with the internal organs. For this, based on his interaction with almost a million patients over the
past 50 years Dr. Mehra has come up with a unique diagnostic tool The LMNT Diagnostic
Chart of Pain Points.

LMNT Diagnostic Chart of Pain Points in the body ( Front view )

For convenience, the various pain points located around the navel have been given certain code
names. These names are, in general, indicative of the major organ in that area which is
responsible for the pain, though not necessarily always so.

Liv0 Right Kidney
Please note the code names for kidney points: they are abbreviated in LMNT as Mu (read as
Mucus Zero) or Liv (Liver Zero).
The Mu pain point of NT is the soft area on the left side of the spinal column, below the last rib
and just above the hip bone. It can be located by gently pressing the area between the last rib and
the hip bone, on the left side. The corresponding area on the right side is the Liv pain point.
The purpose of these abbreviations to denote the kidneys is two fold:

to avoid undue anxiety / embarrassment to patients as well as therapists - as may happen

when therapists converse among themselves or when the patients see the writing on their
diagnosis cards.

for easy remembrance - The Liv Pain point is on the right side of the navel; so the
right kidney, which is immediately behind it, is called Liv, while the left kidney, which is just on
the back side of Mu pain point, is aptly called as Mu.
At every step we can see Gurujis thoughtfulness and meticulous planning. By these two
logically worded abbreviations, he has put both the therapist and the patient at ease, in one
stroke.
In addition, Dr. Mehra has located two pain points near the hip, above the hip bone / femur,
which are indicative of certain vitamin deficiencies. These are given the same code names as the
deficiencies they cure.

Let us sum up the steps to be followed for diagnosis and treatment :

Check the LMNT Pain Points to determine which part(s) of the body is (are) not
functioning to optimal level.

Logically analyse and determine the root cause for the malfunctioning of that organ.

Stimulate the diseased organ(s) and restore its normal functioning

By the above steps, we not only relieve the symptoms of that particular disease, but also
remove the very tendency of the body to develop a diseased state, thus achieving a total cure .
In the above charts / diagrams, we see how the various points of pain are related to various
internal organs.
How these organs are to be stimulated and how this cure is affected, we shall see in later
Chapters.
Remember, Dr. Lajpatrai Mehras Neurotherapy (LMNT) takes a holistic view of the body.

**Seemingly trivial factors which progressively contribute to malfunctioning of the peritoneal

viscera
A detailed discussion of each and every factor, which robs the digestive organs of much-needed
blood supply, is outside of the scope of this paper. However, certain major factors have been by
identified, all of which have cumulatively contributed to the present distressing state of affairs.
Some of these are
1.
Incorrect eating habits
a)
Not devoting sufficient time for chewing the food properly and slowly; hastily gobbling
up sweets without giving adequate time for saliva to do its job all these put an undue strain on
the pancreas.
b)
Wrong combinations of food such as eating salads along with oily food; consumption
of too much purine / oily food
c)
The following hamper proper functioning of the liver and stomach:i)
Products made from refined flour such as biscuits, cakes, noodles, pizzas etc.
ii)
Processed food such as Potato wafers and their like
iii)
Canned fruits and vegetables eaten out of season / out of their geographical locale.
iv)
Chocolates and ice creams etc
v)
"Permitted additives and colouring matter" added to food products puts a strain on the
kidneys.
vi)
Insufficient bodily exercise
d)
Not drinking water in the correct manner spoils digestion and is one of the main causes
of constipation. (See special note below)
e)
Drinking water from the fridge / eating or drinking any item of food in a standing
position hampers digestion. LMNT has found it to be one of the main causes of early onset of
calf muscle pain.
f)
Consumption of antacids depresses the normal activity of the peptic secretions in the
stomach. This hampers protein digestion in later years.
g)
Eating immediately after a bath is inadvisable. One should take food only after 45
minutes after a bath. This is so, because, after a bath, we have to give sufficient time for the
blood circulation to settle down; it has to warm up the skin and the limbs first; only then it will
be ready to stimulate the digestive organs.
h)
Similarly, the indiscriminate use of fans/air conditioners, especially during mealtimes, is
not beneficial. When the skin becomes cool, the body will have to spend energy to warm up the
skin. Consequently, less energy is available for the digestive process.
2.
Incorrect postures
a)
Sitting both at home and at work the habit of sitting for long hours in chairs with the
legs hanging downwards (outwards), is a major contributor to digestive disorders, because it
interferes with the proper blood flow to the abdominal viscera.
b)
Viewing TV, especially the growing tendency to sit in soft couches hampers with
proper functioning of the spinal cord, leading to problems in the lower limbs.
3.
Improper life style
a)
As explained above, setting out to work immediately after breakfast, lunch or dinner
hampers the digestive process; the increasing tendency among children to rush out to school /
college while munching a sandwich on the way takes a toll of their health.
b)
Eating at fast-food joints means one will have to eat food in a standing position. This
leads to poor blood supply to the organs of digestion. As such, it is not beneficial to health.
c)
The growing tendency to use fans / air-conditioners at all times interferes with the
sweating mechanism, which in turn causes accumulation of toxins within the body, causing
undue strain on the liver and kidneys.
d)
Similarly, the use of hot water for bath during winter, is not beneficial, as it interferes
with normal blood circulation. Taking bath in cold water is beneficial. Cimpare with
Naturopathy hot & cold baths.
e)
Use of Western-type toilets does not aid easy defecation, puts a strain on the bowels and
bladder.

f)
Elevated kitchen platform for gas ovens has been found to be a major cause of hip pain,
menstrual disorders and varicose veins in Indian women.
g)
Regular use of lifts and vehicles even for short distances robs the feet of much-needed
exercise resulting in more incidences of knee pain in modern youth.
h)
Increased dependence on kitchen mixers and washing machines means a reduction in
using the muscles our hands and fingers in day-to-day chores. This has led to increased
incidence of head and neck aches, cervical spondylitis etc., among urban population in India, as
compared to their village counterparts.
4.
Stress and tension
Last but not the least tensions and stresses take their toll by frequently arousing the
Sympathetic Nervous System and inhibiting normal Parasympathetic activity on which almost
all functions of the digestive system depend.
The main reason for this, as identified by researchers and Pundits all over the globe, is because,
over the past two or three centuries, we have unconsciously and very gradually, slipped into a
style of thought, which is most harmful to the all health and life processes. We have no time for
our body. We are always immersed in business activities even to the extent that we mix business
even during lunch or dinner (courtesy of mobile phones!). We have adopted a materialistic
attitude and an approach to life that is not conducive to relaxed living.
This change has not been brought about over a few years, but over several decades. It is high
time we review our values and lifestyle.
A drastic life-style change alone can help us to lead a healthy and happy life.
Recap
EVERY organ, is dependent on the GIT for its raw materials. Even if one eats a sensible diet,
whenever the blood supply to the organs of digestion is insufficient, this will cause improper
digestion, especially of proteins. This in turn inhibits the activity of every gland, particularly the
endocrine glands, paving the way for a variety of ailments.
Special Note on water consumption :
Atleast 1 litres of water are lost daily through respiration, sweat, urine etc. So drinking water
regularly is very essential for maintaining proper health. Not drinking adequate water in between
two meal times is one of the major causes of constipation, leading to accumulation of toxins
within the body a major cause for several diseases.
Many people do not seem to pay proper attention to drinking water at regular intervals.
In India, we find at least two types of habits
i)
Some people drink a lot of water or other drinks along with meals or immediately before
or after a meal;
and
Drinking water and /or soft drinks along with meals causes dilution of hydrochloric acid in the
stomach. This, in turn, inhibits action of Pepsin hampering protein digestion.
ii)
Some others gulp down a lot of water at a time, in fits and starts. That is to say, they will
drink half a litre or more when they are thirsty; after that they do not drink water for several
hours, till they are again afflicted with thirst.
The body cannot store water beyond a certain limit. If we drink a lot of water in one go, a major
portion of it will be expelled through urine within a short time. But, due to social etiquette or
because of being engrossed in our work, if we do not drink water until absolutely necessary, this
will cause imbalance in water level in the blood and the ECF, leading to acidosis, constipation
and other disorders.
For people suffering from constipation / digestive disorders:
The most beneficial practice would be to consume a glass of water AFTER half an hour after a
meal, and at hourly intervals, thereafter.
Remember, any drink other than pure water, is a food, and cannot be a substitute for pure water.
