Episode 1
Who Would Have Use for Me?
Janice Rupert, was a bland looking, nondescript kind of
English woman of only average height, non-smoker, non-drinker,
reclusive and generally the least and last to volunteer or in any way get
involved with any events, be they social, political, environmental or
otherwise.
She was a natural genius, though, and although she made a lot
of show of being studious in her academics, it was only that, just for
show, because once she saw or read something once, that was it, she
instantly understood and never forgot.
She was even able to take a general rudimentary concept and
extrapolate upon it, which allowed her to advance quickly at an early
age.
She came to Japan with her parents who were involved with
the steel industry and had come to work for a major Japanese firm
importing recycled scrap and selling such things as sheet steel for cars,
steel beams for bridges and buildings, rebar for concrete structures and
a host of other rather bland, uninteresting things she cared not one whit
about.
By the time she came to Japan, she had already graduated from
middle school and was heading into high school not even having
reached puberty.

In high school, despite being only eleven, she had neither

friend nor foe, but she seemed to heavily 'socialize' with the animals in
the school agricultural department during breaks and after school.
In fact, people just thought of her as a little off and left her
alone, which was just fine by her.
She was perfectly content not ever dealing with other humans
whatsoever, and began studying on the ethical treatment of animals in
laboratory settings because she desperately hated the thought of
animals being mistreated.
She enrolled in the now defunct Japanese College of
Laboratory Animal Medicine, a small, nondescript technical college,
which, with a very small staff and student body, which suited her just
fine.
She was more prone to spend her time talking to the animals
than she was the humans and people sensed that maybe she was just a
little bit off and she was happy that once again they left her alone.
She got a job as an animal welfare investigator and she went
around to various laboratories around Japan making sure that animals
in their research were ethically and humanely treated, as much as said
research would make space for.
One day she was introduced to another 'special' woman who
worked at National Math Dynamics Research Laboratories where they
were being consigned to study how well primates could learn and
interact.
Hello, she introduced herself to the staff as she made her first
inspection, My name is Janice Rupert and I shall be doing the routine
inspections here at this facility in place of my predecessor who has
recently retired.

Welcome Miss Rupert-sama, the obviously older executive

who was in charge of this division smiled, Let me be the first to
welcome you to our humble establishment. he bowed slightly, It will
be an honor working with you.
And I am Missy Minaggio, a tall, confident lady with
shimmering black hair approached, extending her hand, I'm in charge
of the care and management of the test specimens, from dietary to
injury and disease control, including social adaptation, even though
social interactions are not my strong point.
That's something we have in common I believe. Janice
replied taking up her colleague's hand tensely, not being one
comfortable with touching other humans.
Wouldn't that be a novel similarity to build a relationship
upon? Missy said softly.
Janice almost froze in place, suddenly becoming very tense as
the words came to her ears.
Was this woman implying something here? she asked her
self, reflexively beginning to shake, Did she just proposition me or
something?
A professional relationship I mean. Missy bowed her head
slightly with a very courteous smile as she smoothly withdrew her
hand.
Uh...oh... she blinked, realizing that she must have had a
shocked expression on her face, then she nervously chuckled, Yes!
Professional! Of course!
To herself she thought, I just really embarrassed myself there,
going and reading into her words something that was not even there!
she felt terribly humiliated, I am SO not good with human social
3

interactions!
The rest of the introductions went without a hitch and she was
soon out of there and on her way to one of many other companies she
would eventually be dealing with on a semi-regular basis.
Ep 1, Chapter 2
Missy Minaggio was a rather peculiar child herself.
She had not been blessed with so much pure genius as she was
with a driving ambition.
She was an orphan, abandoned by her parents without any
explanation and found by child welfare, later adopted by a couple who
could not have children.
They were in their thirties and struggling but they were both
hard workers and loved her very much.
She was shy because she was abandoned and did not feel she
was worth anything, and she found out later on it was because she had
some kind of deformity that some people had that made her seem
unnatural and undesirable.
She didn't care however because her new parents loved her all
the same and said that little things like that did not matter because if
you loved a person, it was their heart you were in love with, not with
their body.
She adhered to this and always before anything based all
people on their hearts, and since most of them were somehow
defective, she tended to not make friends easily.
She was always polite to people of course, but at the same
time, she was cool and distant, always keeping just far enough away
4

that they could not hurt her or interfere with her personal life.
She preferred to associate with animals because all animals had
pure hearts, never being pretentious, always being there for you and
communicating their true selves.
She took up the veterinary sciences and got a doctorate and
then went on to study developmental animal nutrition, seeing it crucial
to all forms of life to be carefully nurtured from birth so that they did
not end up somehow mentally or emotionally scarred.
Many people took her as placing far too much into the whole
'mind', 'mental' and 'emotional' concept for animals, but later on, she
met with a veterinarian who wanted to prove that animals did in fact
have minds, thoughts, emotions and personal choices, so much so that
he founded the National Math Dynamics Research Laboratories where
she now worked.
She herself did not do the research into these thoughts and
emotions, however, she did make certain that the primates she was
caring for were as comfortable, well managed and emotionally 'happy'
as she could possibly make them so that they would not in any way
become distressed and ruin the research the lead veterinarian was
trying to conduct.
On the side, however, she was herself a rather lonely person.
She got her own apartment when she moved to Tokyo,
preferring not to have a roommate, and since she earned a goodly
income, she could afford it and even put some money back in the bank.
Some of the guys at work had tried to get her attention but she
was not even remotely interested in them.
Some of the women seemed to give her interested glances, but
she was too shy to even speak to them.
5

She was in general very socially awkward.

When she got molested on the train one time, she went out that
very day and bought a car so she would not have to ever ride the train
again.
She was not one to touch people, or let herself be touched, save
by her parents whom she loved dearly.
Therefore, it was rather strange when earlier today, she for no
known reason, for the very first time in her life, reached out and
actually in essence asked for and then took the hand of a complete
stranger, a foreigner at that.
She shook her head of the image as she was in traffic and
needed to concentrate on the roadway so she did not wreck her brand
new Mercedes 530i.
When she got home, however, she could not stop thinking
about this rather nondescript looking woman with thin, rust colored
hair and rust colored freckles on slightly yellow looking skin, slate
gray nearly crossed looking eyes, pale thin lips, a small chin, small
nose and nearly no shoulders.
If anything, this woman looked about as pathetic as a human
could and yet she had a simple, clean, honest type of purity and dignity
about her.
She did not slouch, she was not afraid...exactly...and she was
very VERY intelligent!
Missy looked up the state agency the woman Janice Rupert
worked for and found her company profile.
It was nothing exciting and she had only recently begun
6

working there, only newly out of college.

Missy was already twenty five years into her career, now
coming up on her late forties, although most people assumed she was
in her twenties because she seemed not to age very rapidly.
They would have been shocked to learn the truth of the matter,
which was that she lived on a diet almost exclusively of the same
infant formula she had personally engineered and had been feeding her
laboratory animals all these years.
Ep 1, Chapter 3
At first the two women did not really interact much because
Janice was naturally reclusive and sensed that Missy was in fact
coming on to her.
Missy tried to restrain her behavior, but she had a propensity to
blurt out what she was thinking and completely lacked tact.
She would come up all prepared to say something nonchalant
and would inevitably end up saying something direct.
Janice! she cried one time as she hurried into the room, I
was just thinking about you! while unwittingly rubbing her groin
through her skirt.
I can see. Janice replied warily.
Its not like that! Missy protested as she caught herself, then
suddenly she lifted her hand and sniffed it.
Oh my god! Janice cried, What ARE you thinking about
me?!
Heh-heh, Missy nervously chuckled, I was just checking to
7

see if I still had formula on my hands from feeding the primates is all.
From your GROIN? Janice asked looking where she was
saying.
No I just spilled some on my skirt is all. Missy lied, It
smells for hours if you don't get it all completely rinsed out and I didn't
have a change of clothes. Missy was used to spills and always had a
change of clothes and in fact always wore a lab coat to protect herself
from such spills.
Well you should bring a change of clothes in that case!
Janice scolded her.
I'll make a note of that! the animal feeder declared, whipped
out a palm sized scheduler and typed on its surface, while saying,
Bring...change...of...clothes...THERE all taken care of!
Let me see...! Janice reached for the suspicious pad.
Its in a secret code, she again lied, knowing it was just
random gibberish, so you wouldn't recognize anyways, Missy
slipped the suspect device in her purse, these primates are supposedly
able to read you know.
I don't see these primates as all that intelligent. Janice
protested.
I think my cat is far more intelligent than these primates are.
the Japanese woman declared, handily changing the subject.
That is likely so. Janice replied, not even seeing that she was
being played, Perhaps they should be studying the mathematical
capacities of felines.
Ha! the woman chuckled, Like you could get a cat to pay
8

attention to anything like that!

You could get larger cats of the pantera genus to though.
Janice replied in her calm, bland, nonplussed manner, clearly she was
now totally on track in her mind as to animal behavior and not the
strange behavior of the woman who seemed to be behaving quite
abnormally, As you know, they are good at performing in circuses,
figuring out mazes and opening up doors.
You have a point there. the relieved brunette woman
considered, But who would have use for a very large, highly
intelligent, potentially deadly predator?
Oh come on, Missy, Janice suddenly showed some emotion,
in the form of exasperation, who else but the military?
Well, Missy pondered this idea, images of giant anime cats
with huge suits of oddly colored armor and comically oversized claws
with face masks and melodramatic music behind them, you would
have to forego the mecha trope, she pointed out, real militaries aren't
into long monologues an brightly colored suits that transform from
recycled shopping carts and used bread trucks you know.
Well DUHH. Janice came back, You think I was talking
about some stupid CARTOON?
Well no, Missy replied defensively, and its 'ANIME' here in
Japan I'll have you know.
Its all cartoons to me. Janice turned and walked away,
heading to the podium where she would give her monthly lecture and
ask for reports from various departments.
Missy frowned and sat down with a Hmmfff! as she sat
feeling totally snubbed, I'll show YOU cartoons! she muttered under
her breath.
9

Ep 1, Chapter 4
Missy Minaggio was a local girl, in a lot of ways, she was not
greatly different from Janice, only that she was a bit of an air head on
some things despite her level of intuitive genius and was prone to blurt
out things because she was so used to being alone she was used to
talking to herself out loud.
When she met Janice during a routine inspection she was quite
smitten with the seemingly bland, unremarkable woman and did not
hesitate to overcome her normal reclusive shyness and make herself
known.
They did not hit it off right away, despite both being intense
animal lovers. There were some differences in personality and cultural
upbringing that made for clashes between them.
Missy did not care much for tradition or convention, she was
always one to break out of the mold, seek to be different and distance
herself from the crowd.
She liked being different and did not make any excuses about
it.
She was born different and her adopted parents taught her to
cherish her differences.
She would often come to work in leather outfits, thigh high
boots, dark sunglasses inside the building, gaudy flamboyant neon chic
outfits from the 80's or Gothic Lolita outfits, seldom the same thing
twice and always looking far out of place in a laboratory.
She wore gaudy makeup, some times colored her hair in
various wacky hues, wore colored contacts and gaudy jewelry.

10

It was not beyond her to come to work dressed as a circus

clown.
Janice, on the other hand, wore rather drab tweed pantsuits in
the winter and equally drab skirtsuits in the summer, conservative flat
shoes, no makeup and no jewelry.
Visually, the two could scarcely be different.
This is one reason that Janice was not nearly so drawn to the
overly flamboyant Missy.
Missy would noisily chew gum at work and drink from a thigh
flask of Irish Whiskey, while Janice would occasionally snack on some
hulled sunflower seeds and a mineral water.
Therefore, when Missy came up one day and asked Janice out,
she immediately said, No way!
Oh come ONNN-uhhh! the tall lanky Japanese girl leaned
over and shook her head like a horse.
You are just too weird for me! Janice put up her hand and
pushed, planting her hand right in Missy's heavily made up face,
Ewwwww! she drew it back to find a print of Missy's pancake
makeup imprinted on the palm of her hand making Missy giggle like a
school girl.
Its not funny! Janice protested, Besides look at your face
now!
Who cares!? Missy giggled, I dress like a clown all the time
anyways!
And THAT is PRECISELY why I am not going out with you!
Janet replied as she pulled a tissue from her purse and began wiping
11

her hand.
Oh please-please-please-pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Missy
latched on to her arm, head tilted half way to the floor gazing upward
from this lower vantage point despite being over a foot taller than
Janice, I'll dress NORMAL if you do, I promise...
But will you ACT normal. Janice scoffed.
Cross my heart, hope to die. Missy said tracing an 'X' across
her chest with her long black painted nails.
That's a scary response. Janice regarded the morbidly dressed
woman.
I'm only scary if you're scaaaareddd Missy insisted
childishly.
No, I'm not 'SCARED', Janice insisted, until she saw that
Missy had twelve inch chrome plated dagger strapped to her thigh,
okay, yes, she breathed with a shudder, I'm actually quite terrified.
Ep 1, Chapter 5
There ya go! Missy walked up and plopped two tickets to an
event.
I'm not going. Janice said without even looking up.
Awwwwwwe come ON! Missy protested, I spent over
twenty thousand yen apiece for these tickets!
Not my problem. Janice did not even look up but continued
to simply read reports which had already reached her before Missy had
arrived.

12

Aren't you even going to see who it is? Missy insisted.

Not interested I said. the English girl kept not looking and
pushed them back.
Fine I'll just take your boss then. Missy snorted, I hear HE
likes orchestra.
ORCHESTRA? Janice's head popped up more in surprise
than because she was any huge fan of it, Why on EARTH would
YOU even HAVE tickets to something as NORMAL and BORING as
ORCHESTRA!? realizing at the same time that Missy was wearing a
rather elaborate white satin, pearl studded Victorian era outfit replete
with wig, huge strings of pearls, elbow gloves, and opera glasses.
Oh I've listened to classical music since I was a child
actually. Missy said, Did you know that then men wore big fluffy
wigs and panty hose?
Those weren't PANTY HOSE! Janice suddenly roared,
They were TIGHTS!
Just a fancy way of saying 'panty hose; to me. Missy said,
Anyhow, she scooped the tickets up before Janice could reach them,
since you're not into this stuffy kind of thing, I'll just -HEY!
Janice reached up and snatched the tickets back to read who the
performing orchestra would be and what pieces were to be performed,
and then she leaned back when Missy lunged for them and stuck them
out with her right hand behind her and over her head, Whoa this is
some good stuff here! she cried as she looked over her head to read
the list.
Give them BACK! Missy came around the desk only to find
Janice slipping them down her collar between her cleavage, Don't
think I won't go in there after them!
13

Miss Minaggio, the on site executive in charge come up with

a stern but embarrassed voice, please desist in this childish behavior
and leave our esteemed guest to her work.
But she has my TICKETS! Missy protested whining and
wilting.
I don't see anything, the executive replied.
Janice tilted her head down pretended to be busy working
while hoping the man would not see her blushing deeply.
That's because they're inside her BRA! Missy blurted out.
Oh my! the executive gasped weakly while blushing deeply
and stepping away.
Janiiiiiiiiiiiiiice-uh! Missy pleaded.
Promise to wear something NORMAL and act like a LADY?
the English woman insisted.
Is that a 'yes'? Missy instantly got hopeful.
A very CONDITIONAL one. Janice did not raise her head.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh YIPPIEEEE!!! Missy cried and began
whirling about the meeting room in her wide bustled gown,
inadvertently knocking aside folding chairs in her path.
Janice rested her head on her hand as she pulled the tickets up
from their safe hiding place with pen still in hand, Oh, what am I
getting myself into here?
Ep 1, Chapter 6
14

Janice was amazed to see Missy come to the door of her home
in a rather elegant, mature and well mannered evening gown, a
conservative diamond necklace and matching earrings, normal makeup
and heels.
In relationship, Janice had no such clothing whatsoever and
ended up simply going in a pinstriped black skirtsuit, which, despite its
feel and aura of power in a business setting, gave more of the feel that
she was a butch dyke in this specific setting.
That said, the addition of the heels Missy wore made her feel
that much more uncomfortable all in its self, because with Missy
already towering over her a whole foot, the additional five inch high
heels just made it impossible to stand beside her.
Is something bothering you Janice? Missy asked.
Only the fact that I just come up eye level with your
cleavage. Janice replied.
What's wrong with that? Missy sounded offended.
Its...its...oh GEEZ why is it so DIFFICULT to TALK to
you!? she gave up.
I don't know, Missy replied, I find it the easiest thing in the
world to talk to YOU and that's rather unusual for ME.
I think you told me that once before. Janice said.
Oh. Missy replied after a moment, Well its true, so why not
say it twice then?
I hate when people repeat themselves all the time. Janice
grumbled as they made their way to the point where she handed over
15

the tickets.
The night went rather well, Missy did behave pretty normal,
they even ate at a family restaurant which Missy was known at and the
staff and patrons all regarded her normalcy with a marked level of
barely contained shock.
Greetings Miss Minaggio! the manager of the restaurant
came out to see for himself, What would you and your lovely
companion like to drink this evening?
Oh the usual is fine. Missy began somewhat offhandedly,
then she stopped and puled herself up short and said, in a rather
smooth, elegant, almost demure tone, Oh no, I'll have a Chateau
DuBlanc this time please, and you darling? turning to Janice.
Janice was about to speak when she heard the word darling and
she just blushed like a beet, totally unable to say a word, instead
turning away and murmuring, That...sss...fine.
The manager was unable to respond now.
He looked trapped in something he had no answer for and he
looked around uncomfortably until one of the regular waitresses came
hurrying over to see what the deal was and he said, They'll have the
Chateau DuBlanc, please, then turning to Missy he raised a finger and
said, Excuse me please. and hurried away form the embarrassing
situation.
Ep 1, Chapter 7
What was all that for? Janice half whined, half berated Missy
as they walked back to the car.
You said 'act normal'. Missy shrugged as she strode
gracefully along towering high over Janice, her face unreadable in the
16

dim light of the parking lot lamps.

That's not- Janice began.
Normal? Missy spun on her toe without breaking a stride,
What's 'normal' about EITHER one of us Janice? she leaned down to
get in the shorter woman's face, I'm a FREAK and you're a spinster
who's afraid of her own shadow! she scolded, There's nothing
NORMAL about EITHER of us, so stop playing these silly games
because you're only fooling your SELF!
If I am, Janice mustered up the courage to say, its my right
to. as she tried to shoulder her way past the taller woman.
Oh no its NOT! Missy lashed out and yanked up the nearest
wrist, pulling Janice to a skidding stop, a look of anger flashing wildly
in her eyes.
Janice looked up with big round eyes in sudden terror, this
woman was FAR stronger than she appeared to be!
Let me gooooooooo-uh! Janice cried out, I KNEW it was a
bad-mmmmmmmmmmmff!
Missy had pulled her in and with her other arm scooped her in
tightly and sealed her mouth with a passionate kiss as tears began to
fall from her eyes.
Moments later some guys who heard Janice cry out came
rushing up asking, Is there a problem he-ohhhh... as they slowed
quickly to a halt.
No. Missy stood erect towering over them as she released
Janice who at first yanked her hand away and stumbled a couple of
steps back, stunned beyond words. Tears streamed from the tall
woman's eyes.
17

Well, the one man chuckled nervously, if you need any help
with anything, planting his hands together and bowing slightly, you
just let us know okay?
I'll be sure to. Missy said softly, even though it was clearly in
sarcasm, then she turned to Janice and mumbled, I'm sorry. and
without another word began walking out of the parking lot toward the
street, hand held high to hail a taxi.
Ep 1, Chapter 8
Wuhhh-wait! Janice cried out, coming behind her,
Missyyyyyy waaaaaaaaait!
The taxi pulled up and Missy was carefully making her way
down into it from the sidewalk, the five inch heels making it a tricky
proposition, which gave Janice just enough time to make it.
Hey! Where you going!? Janice took her turn at grabbing
wrists as Missy needed a steady hand on the top of the door to lower
herself into the car and when Janice took hold with both of her hands
and began to pull, she began to lose her balance which forced her to
stand up or else she would fall on her backside right on the sidewalk.
Let GOOOOO! Missy cried, struggling to get her hand free
of the shorter woman.
Oh no you don't! Janice cried out, You're not getting away
with that kiss THIS easy, no way!
Huh? Missy was caught off guard by it all, but this part
really threw her for a loop.
You're going to take responsibility for your actions young
lady! Janice demanded, not even sure what that meant.
18

What? Missy demanded sullenly, Why do you care

anyway? tears having by this point washed the mascara all down her
face and made her nose to begin running.
Because I DO dammit! the English woman shouted, You go
and get me all worked up like this in the middle public for the whole
wide world to see than you go running off like its not any of your
business?! she berated the tall woman, That just isn't going to fly
with me mister!
MISTER!? the Japanese woman cried out.
MissEEEEEEEE...whatever! she yanked on the woman
almost toppling her as she tried to drag her away from the taxi.
Excuse me ladies, the taxi driver said, either you are gong
to ride now or I am going to have to find another fare, this is costing
me money.
Then GO already! Janice shouted, then, thinking quickly, she
kicked the door closed before Missy could make a lunge for it.
The taxi driver, not wanting to be involved with this drama, OR
getting his car doors kicked in sped away almost colliding with
another car who beeped at him angrily.
See what a mess you have made now!? Janice continued to
scold the Japanese woman who was not simply crying.
I'm...I'm sorry... Missy wept, I thought you were a better
person than this.
Shocked and dumbfounded, BETTER PERSON!?!?! she
recoiled, although not enough to lose her angry grip, Look whose
TALKING miss wild child!
19

I am not going to answer to you or to anybody for how I live

my life! Missy wailed rebelliously.
Well GOD DAMMIT NEITHER THE HELL AM I!!! Janice
screamed, But you STARTED this, and you BETTER WELL FINISH
IT! then she turned and began dragging the sobbing Missy behind
with one hand back toward her car and said, Come on! I have to take
you home!
Ep 1, Chapter 9
Neither of them talked or even looked at each other at the next
monthly meeting.
This did not surprise the others, however because they had
already had three weeks of Missy in a perfectly foul mood.
She was only 'a little odd' in her usually shy yet ludicrously
happy mood, but in her dark, 'don't you even DARE look at me!'
mood, she was downright terrifying!
She had gone to wearing only Gothic stuff lately, always
wearing black and looking downright creepy.
She would always have a frown and she always avoided
everybody.
She stopped eating in the dining room and before long she took
to consuming the very formula she was giving the animals because it
was handy and somebody else was paying for it and she could skip
lunches without being hungry.
So... the executive said, I take it things didn't go too well,
huh?

20

I'm sorry, Janice looked up with an eye batting, completely

innocent look in her eyes, are you speaking to me sir?
Seeing as she was going to pretend that it never happened, he
just said, Oh, sorry, no, never mind, excuse me. and he hurried away.
She resumed doing her paperwork in a hurry to leave and when
a black gloved hand came and plopped down the report she almost
looked fully up but the instant her eyes caught the red eyed glare
between corkscrew curls, she simply looked back down while pulling
the papers across the desk and placing them in the stack as if nothing
at all was happening.
She did not bother to focus clearly as the thigh high leather
boots turned and walked away, but the fact that there were two katanas
strapped across Missy's back did for a moment cause a brief lump of
fear to come up into her throat and make her think, Maybe its best I
did not get myself involved with this lunatic!
Two days later, however, Janice came to work to find a flower
delivery company had dropped off a bouquet of black and white roses
and a box of chocolates.
Inside was a card that read, Dear Janice-sama, I'm deeply
sorry for how I acted, for making assumptions and trying to pull you
into my world, just because we had some little thing in common.
I now understand how little I know about you and how totally
different, nay, extremely opposite of one another we truly are, as
opposite as black and white, and I sincerely apologize for trying to
make you into something from my fantasies and not trying to just see
you for who and what you are.
I did not even see it until I talked to my mother and she
pointed it out and I am embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I am now
transferring to a new company so you will not have to see me any
21

more.
Please, I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me.
Regretfully, Missy Minaggio
Janice did not expect this, and as she collapsed into her chair,
she could only sit and stare at the black and white roses and see how
Missy had chosen them to show the differences between the two
women, hearing in her mind, over and over again, ...as opposite as
black and white...as opposite as black and white...
Janice sat there stunned for some time before a call came in
and broke her reverie and somebody from another company called and
asked her if she was having some kind of difficulty and should they
cancel the meeting for today.
Uh... she suddenly realized she had been sitting there
motionless for over an hour, Yeah. she replied, something came up
and I won't be able to make it. Thank you for checking. No, that's no
trouble, I'll be there like normal next time, I'll just write a pass for this
month, how about that? Yes I can do that, no sweat. Okay. Okay. Bye.
and she hung up.
As she set the receiver down, a huge wave of guilt, grief and
loss seemed to come up from somewhere hidden deep inside her and
just washed her away, taking her composure with it.
Before she could catch it, it took her away in a torrent of tears.
Ep 1, Chapter 10
Missy was at home, she had called in sick and this was because
she both wanted some time off, as well as she was spending some time
looking for work.
She was making phone calls in her underwear when the
22

doorbell rang.
Hold on one second please, she said to the potential
employer, somebody just rang my doorbell. and she laid down the
phone.
She put on a house robe and came to the door and peered out
the little peep glass, but she saw nobody.
She thought she saw a box with a note attached to it but she
could not tell because the distortion of these peep holes was always
keeping people from seeing what was down there clearly.
It looked almost like it said 'Missy' on the box, but it could
have said something else as well.
She fiddled with the locks until she could get the door open and
there was indeed a rather large box on her doorstep, and there was a
shipping label on it that said, 'Missy Minaggio' and her address, a
return address from some chemical supply company she had used at
work to get materials for her formula, but it was rather strange for it to
be coming from work.
There was a marking that said, 'this side up' and one that said,
'use no hooks' and clearly the box looked a bit heavy.
She looked around to see if somebody was perhaps watching
her in case her boss had caught on to her technically stealing on the job
by eating the costly nutritional supplement she was supposedly giving
to the animals and not to herself.
She had no binoculars or anything like that per se, only the
silly little opera glasses, but they had a fair amount of magnification,
and she simply used them to look in suspect places like neighboring
windows and inside cars and any place somebody might secrete a
hidden camera or be hiding to spy on her.
23

Finally, when she felt that she had no other choice and it
seemed that nobody was watching her, she wrestled the heavy box
inside and re-locked the door.
Still a bit wary, she decided to shake the box a little.
It was heavy alright, that she already knew, but somehow it
seemed off.
She decided to tip the box over and when she did, she heard a
sound and sure enough when it went over with a 'thump' she heard
from inside the box a muffled but distinct 'OWWW!'
She leapt back gasping at first but then she cried out,
JANICE?!?!
Janice proceeded to kick the bottom of the box out and crawl
out of it.
What on earth are YOU doing here?!?! Missy gasped wide
eyed, holding her robe tightly over herself, And what in the hell are
you doing SHIPING yourself here in a BOX?!
I had to see you. Janice said, And after what you wrote, I
didn't think you'd just open the door for me.
Episode 2
Lets Try This Again, Shall We?
That afternoon, over hot coffee and Chinese take-out they had a
long, heart to heart conversation where Janice explained to Missy that
she did not want Missy to just up and go away.
Its not LIKE that! Janice protested, You just like to go
flying into everything like there's no tomorrow and no consequences
24

and I can't DEAL with that!

Its just how I've always been. Missy mumbled, I've never
had to answer to anybody, my parents never said 'no' to anything, they
would just say 'just be safe' and that was the end of the conversation.
That in and of its self doesn't sound too awful safe in my
view. Janice remarked.
Its not. Missy admitted, I knew that much, she declared,
so I some times actually chose not to do what it was I was thinking
about doing, once I had talked to them about it.
Why were they so permissive with you to begin with? Janice
asked, I always thought people here were more strict than in western
countries.
They might be, on the average, Missy said, I really don't
know because I was adopted and my original parents didn't want
anything to do with me, but my adopted parents were afraid they
would lose me if they said the wrong things and therefore were too
relaxed as far as parenting goes.
Well somehow it seems that for the most part you managed to
survive anyhow. Janice said, Not that I know what all you may have
done in your past that you regret or anything.
So far nothing I suppose, Missy sighed, other than dress
crazy and drink a little on the job, I've really not done too much of
anything to be honest, she concluded, I don't get along with other
people and I'm 'different' so I don't usually even bother with romance
or anything.
Well you sure fooled ME, Janice took a drink of coffee, then
she ruminated on what she had just heard and asked, just what do you
mean by 'different'...?
25

I'm...ummm... Missy blushed and got a really sad, downcast

look, lowered her head in shame and mumbled, I'm not a woman.
Janice was glad she did not have coffee in her mouth when she
head this but she managed to keep her reaction to a single, simple
cough.
Missy looked up without lifting her head expecting something
terrible.
Wwwwwell. Janice finally said, then she took a deep breath,
That's... then nodding a forced act of overt enthusiasm in an attempt
to be understanding, 'different' alright.
Missy just looked down and sighed, seeming to shrink down as
if she would simply melt into nothingness.
So are you saying you're a transsexual? Janice asked slowly,
not really understanding.
Nobody is BORN a transsexual. Missy half mumbled, half
growled.
Oh...yeah...sorry. I missed that part somehow. then she
thought back, Or should I say it just failed to register the first goround.
It always does, trust me. Missy murmured, head still down.
Hey. Janice reached out and caught her shoulder, causing
Missy to look up with somewhat of an expression of dread in her eyes,
That can't be any worse than the guy I met who was born with four
legs and a head sticking out of his butt.
Missy froze for a moment...then without expecting it, the
26

image of her boss's head sticking out of some poor guy's butt came to
mind and she exploded into hysterical laughter and fell on the floor
slapping the carpet and screaming in hilarity.
Ep 2, Chapter 2
Missy promised to go back to work and not go running away
from the situation, and to try to be more demure and mature as a
person.
Before long they began to have a slight friendship as far as
professional friendships go.
They would talk every time Janice came to inspect the labs and
often they would have lunch together as they discussed all the amazing
things they loved about various kinds of animals, and music.
They would have social dates, going to the opera and to
orchestras, to classical art museums and other highbrow places, Missy
even began to take evening classes in classical music and literature and
found she was a virtuoso on the cello.
She did not give up her flamboyant manner of dress however,
and in fact would perform at a local theater in Gothic Lolita outfits,
which had become quite the 'in' fashion.
Janice would attend these they would even get some of the
people they knew to come, and it was rather a big surprise for many of
them, especially the executives who only knew Missy as 'Missy the
Mischievous Misfit'.
Missy finally got a raise, not because her performance at work
had gotten better, there was really no way she could have done better,
she was the best in the industry hands down, but because they wanted
to be sure and hold on to her now that they knew that she had been
seeking employment elsewhere and was also earning money on the
27

side from her performances which began to include her own

compositions.
This went on for about a year when one of the executives
where Missy worked discovered and read an old research paper Janice
had written several years earlier in college on animal behavior.
Ep 2, Chapter 3
Janice had been a year at her job and doing quite well at it,
companies were complying better and some companies even praised
her for her ideas which led to greater operational efficiency.
One morning at the usual meeting at Missy's job, just as she
and Missy were dining in the cafeteria, however, an executive whom
Janice had seldom seen at meetings came up to her directly, with a
thick bundle of paper in his hands and a pensive look on his face, a
cross between doubt and anticipation.
Miss Rupert, the sixty year old man in a fine business suit
approached the dull rusty orange haired English woman while she ate
lunch with Missy, I found a most interesting paper you once wrote,
laying a printed copy before her, waiting to see what she would say.
Picking it up, she immediately recognized her own work which
delved into animal psychology and how to tap into animal's native
intelligence and how to educate and expand it to higher levels.
Yes? she asked looking up at him.
I have grown tired of the aimless and unproductive routine of
this company Miss Rupert, then he turned and regarded Missy as he
continued, I believe that a few fresh young faces, with enough
resources could really put your theories into practice.
Both young women started at each other in disbelief.
28

This man was offering them the opportunity of a lifetime!

Ep 2, Chapter 2
The small start-up company was called 'Anthro' and it was
established only a week after the two of them had said 'yes' to the
executive.
At a remote location in the mountains, an old abandoned
military base was rapidly being renovated into a laboratory where
there would be enough privacy and secrecy to work without any
impediment or interference from either the public or any government
agencies.
Janice listed the specific types of big cats she felt would best
serve the research, and the executive, with many connections on both
sides of the law quickly put the list into shipping crates and within
days they were being delivered to the new lab.
Missy coordinated with technicians and directed them how to
begin the daily research procedures.
The research began with the introduction of these cats as
normal specimens, but for this project to reach its goal, they would
have to step outside of the old lines of breeding and start
experimenting with them to see just what new heights they could
reach.
Wow, Missy said as they popped a cork on a bottle of
champagne in the lunch room of the newly opened facility, we finally
made it to the big time!
Can you believe it? Janice giggled, perhaps for the first time
in her life.

29

The recently hired staff had all gone home for the night and
only the two of them were there just wrapping up the paperwork and
having a private little housewarming party to congratulate themselves.
Who would have though a couple of recluses like us would
end up directors of a research company? Missy purred, but then she
caught herself with a little 'ah-hem' and said, But... raising her finger
along side the bottle of champagne in her hands, Let us not count our
chickens...or in our case kittens-
That's 'cubs'. Janice interjected.
Oh well whatever, Missy rolled her eyes, then seeing the
steadfast expression on Janice's face relented, okayyyy...'Miss
Purrrrfect', she took a breath in a pronounced manner, 'CUBS', or
whatever...
Coming from a doctorate in zoology... Janice rolled her eyes
as she accepted the champagne and sipped it before saying, Mmm-I
got something for you. and she stood up and went to a locker in the
room.
Oh no, Missy giggle, I can't EVEN imagine YOU shopping
for a gift, she leaned forward resting her chin on interlaced fingers
over a table she had set up with hors d'oeuvres she had called in from
her house before coming to work, is it a helmet or something?
Just wait and see. Janice replied as she pulled out a rather
long box.
That's a mighty long box, Miss commented, maybe you got
me a hazmat suit for all the times I spill formula on myself.
Something like that. Janice replied disingenuously.
Well... Missy giggled, hurry up, its going to turn to dust
30

before you get it to the table for me to open!

I'm taking my time for a reason. Janice replied as she
brought the long wide box to the table, There. Its all yours now.
Missy eyed her suspiciously, I'm not too sure I like the way
you said that.
Oh silly! Janice gasped and slapped her shoulder playfully,
After you went to all this fuss to complain how slow I was going and
now you say you don't want it? she began to take it back, Fine! I'll
just get my money ba-
Oh no you don't! Missy reached out in a flash and snatched
the heavy box up, making a distinctive thump, followed by a resonant
vibration, which caused her to freeze up, eyes wide, before squealing,
Noooooooo you DIDN'T!!!
Janice bit her lower lip trying not to smile like a little child,
blushing slightly in excited anticipation.
Missy eagerly ripped the paper off the box and there inside, the
box was a shiny black item with chrome corners and a chrome trim
around the lid.
She lay the box down gently and slowly, reverently, while
holding her breath, opened the latches and lifted the lid.
Inside was a 1725 Carlo Tontoni cello from Venice, Italy.
As she gasped, she let out a squeal and began to cry, rushing
up to Janice and scooping her up in a tight embrace.
Thank you for being such a wonderful friend Missy, Janice
stroked the shiny long black hair on Missy's back, thank you for
everything.
31

Ep 2, Chapter 3
When she could stop crying and let go of Janice, Missy slowly
walked back to the open case, and with loving fingers, glode them
along the surface of the finely polished wood, and along the precisely
tuned strings of the ancient instrument.
With reverence and devotion, she slowly lifted the instrument
from its case and turned it over in the fluorescent light.
Every surface of the instrument was flawless.
She looked inside the case and in a nook was the bow, a special
rosin applicator, some polish and cloths.
Deftly, she lifted out the bow and examined ever minute detail
of it.
Well, go on. Janice insisted, Play it!
This...its... Missy hesitated.
Its an instrument dear, Janice insisted, it was not made to be
hung on a wall you know.
I... she hesitated, I know...but...
But nothing dear, Janice insisted, everybody already says
you are of the caliber for this kind of instrument, so you can't tell me
you're not worthy.
Missy had, in fact, always felt unworthy, because of how she
was born.
Right now, however, in her mind, she knew it was not true, but
32

her heart sank into the depths of despair and self rejection because she
had been thrown away like some kind of diseased carcass by
whomever her real parents were.
I'll take it baaaaaaaaack... Janice folded her arms and gave a
threatening look.
Nooooooooo!!! Missy whimpered, I'll play it...just...
NOW. Janice insisted.
Oh...okay. Missy complied, laying down the cello and
picking up the rosin applicator.
In two passes the room took on the distinctive turpentinish
odor of the rosin.
Setting the rosin applicator back in the nook made for it, Missy
carefully wiped the shaft of the bow and her hands to be sure there
was no rosin on them before she handled the cello.
She then carefully set the bow down and picked up the cello,
standing it on its foot while carefully seating herself in the one
peculiarly different chair in the lunch hall, which happened to stand
out because it was also a finely crafted article of wood and not a metal
and plastic construance.
I see now why you had this one odd chair in here. Missy
smirked.
You're a quick study. Janice smirked back, Now I want to
hear that cello weep.
My weeping was not enough? Missy pretended to be hurt by
her remark.

33

Oh whatever, Janice waved her hand, just play the darned

thing!
Missy giggled but then she immediately seemed to transform
and in a moment she was slowly swaying back and forth while playing
'Cello Sonata No. 1 in E Minor', by Johannes Brahms without
accompaniment.
As she played, Janice sat enrapt, sipping champagne and
soaking in the sheer beauty of the whole moment, a melancholy tear
slipping from her eye.
When Missy finished the piece, Janice rose up and applauded
excitedly as tears of joy streamed down her face.
Missy smiled softly, rose and bowed before reverently placed
the instrument back into its case.
Janice then came up and took hold of the unsuspecting
musician by her neck and kissed her passionately.
Missy returned the kiss for a while, but when Janice took one
hand away to begin fondling Missy's breast, she gently pushed herself
away, smiling softly but in a somewhat sad manner then turning her
head away.
What? Janice asked, totally confused, Isn't this what you
wanted?
Not here, Missy whispered, not now. then a tear came to
her eye and she began to shudder, I think I rushed the first time out of
fear...or something... she sighed, grabbing hold of her own shoulders
as if hugging herself, but now I realize I was about to make a big
mistake that could have ruined both our lives.
But-but now... Janice asked confused and hurt.
34

Now is not the time. Missy declared, There will be time,

she said, IN time, she took a deep breath, reaching out to Janice to
pull her into a tight embrace and they both trembled with so many
mixed emotions, we have time. she promised, I'm not going
anywhere.

Ep 2, Chapter 4
The following morning, they both went about their usual daily
business as if nothing had happened, but Janice felt hurt and confused,
but she was not sure where to approach the issue from.
She wore her usual bland face and addressed every issue in her
usual droll, uninteresting, uninspiring fashion, giving the world her
'strictly business' face.
If this was going to work, she had to work and not mope
around in her own self pity.
Since she had released new papers this week entailing the
overall thrust of their work in rather nebulous and yet easy to interpret
terms.
By defining the intelligence of the apex predator Pantera
Onca, it is our aim to selectively determine, isolate, and improve upon
the genetic traits which give this rare and endangered species its high
level of intelligence and breed the species into a higher level than it
began as.
By isolating individuals within the species with extraordinary
signs of intelligence we hope to isolate genetic factors which
determine brain size and mental ability.
35

It has been shown in the past ten years that among the
predators of the world, these particular specimens have displayed far
greater intelligence and even have been shown to perform cognitive
tests which would imply that their intelligence is far higher, if only
there was a call for its use.
It is our aim to take these intelligent creatures and put them
through a battery of tests which we feel should truly explore their real
capabilities and from there we hope to find ways of training them in
higher, more complex tasks and rudimentary math and mental
exercises which would allow them to perform heretofore unheard of
tasks within the species.
Dr. Janice Rupert, Ph. D.
Animal Psychology, Neurosciences
Within forty eight hours of these papers being released, several
nations approached her concerning her proposed research.
The two top bidding countries were the U.S., and Japan,
respectively.
It looks like you've hit the jackpot. Missy munched on an
apple in the lunch room reviewing the papers from each nation's
militaries which proposed various monies and compensations for their
research.
Maybe. Janice said listlessly, Its only money, she
shrugged, I could get enough of that from a university.
But why would you? Missy asked, Universities require you
go public and give your work away.
And its better to go into a black budget program and know
that your work will never see the light of day and no longer even
36

belongs to you? Janice groaned, looking up with doe eyes at the

enrapt Japanese Futanari who was riveted to the military paperwork.
I dunno, Missy shrugged and bit off another hunk of apple,
crunching it noisily.
Why wouldn't you sleep with me? Janice asked almost
without thinking.
Missy broke into violent whooping coughs, spewing pieces of
chewed apple all over the document, her eyes crossing before she
painfully managed to swallow some of the apple and not choke to
death on it.
Falling from her chair to the floor on her hands and knees she
continued to cough and hack violently as some few pieces of the acidic
fruit had made it at least into her windpipe before coming to rest.
Honey are you okay!? Janice rushed around to address the
red faced, heavily wheezing woman on the floor.
You trying to kill me? Missy's eyes were slits and her face
beet red, her nose running and generally her whole face screwed up
into a grimace, Aaaak! she hacked, finally a small chunk of green
apple skin popped out and landed on the floor.
Nooooooo! Janice hovered around the grounded Futanari, I
didn't even mean to even SAY anything like that!
Well you sure DID anyhow! the tall thin woman creaked in a
clearly hoarse voice, beads of sweat all over her face, I need to lay
down now.
I am SO so sorry! Janice helped her friend up, I never say
things like that, ever!

37

What's funny, Missy weakly chuckled, between coughs, I

do it all the time!
Ep 2, Chapter 5
Janice did not get the answer she was looking for, but she did
get a strong clue.
Admittedly, she was not the impulsive type who would just
jump in bed with somebody, but she honestly wondered now, why was
somebody so seemingly starved for love and affection totally
unwilling to go to a higher level of intimacy.
If anything, it seemed that Missy was growing more and more
enthusiastic about her work than ever before.
She still loved to play music and still very often held concerts,
of which, more and more often she was presenting her own
compositions.
Janice would take her to some nice restaurant once a week and
they would just hang out at Janice's house playing old board games,
watching movies, or some times they would go some LGBT club and
dance.
They would slow dance and Janice would just cling to Missy
like a wet t-shirt while Missy would seemingly flirt with everybody in
the place, however lightheartedly it was and it would just break poor
Janice's heart, yet she would let Missy do it because it gave the
Futanari validation of some kind.
One of the girls there, however was a real cutie and was also a
grad school student specializing in genetics and zoology.
Missy brought her to Janice and introduced them.

38

Kii Myonati, twenty four years old, all of five feet tall and cute
as a button, was a bi-curious girl who had been coming here for about
three months now, and had been having no luck with either guys or
girls, but she was clearly in the market.
Janice could sense that she was really attracted to Missy, but it
seemed that Missy saw her mostly, if not entirely, as a fine addition to
the research staff, and not in any way romantically.
Janice had to admit, she felt quite a draw towards the girl and
yet at the same time, a powerful sense of jealousy as well.
Well what is it Janice? she asked herself, Are you going to
be jealous of her, or jealous of Missy? then she asked herself, Or are
you just going to cool down and see if its even worth bothering
about?
She left off of the entire issue and went about her way, Missy
and she continued to go to this club, the Golden Angelfish as well as
a few others, and even thought they would bump into Kii some times,
and usually along side some other girl every night, she really did not
think much more about it.
Ep 2, Chapter 6
Progress in the laboratory was rather demanding and as much
ground as they gained, it seemed that the military would simply raise
the bar and ask of them some new, tougher task with more stringent
passing criteria.
This seemed to be like a video game where every plateau they
achieved only showed them something ten times higher right ahead of
them.
Janice was really feeling the strain of it all, just the fact that
every deadline simply created yet another one with tougher demands.
39

In June, however, when college was out for the summer, she
got a surprise when Kii showed up at the laboratory far back up in the
mountains, apparently having climbed the mountain roads on foot.
She was in hiking shorts, mountain boots, a t-shirt, ball cap,
wearing a large backpack with a bedroll and water bottles on each side,
two hiking poles and sunglasses.
Hello Ms. Rupert-sama! Kii beamed brilliantly, It is a
pleasure to find your research facilities!
Oh won't you please come in? Janice offered, not able to
think of any other response. I know its terribly hot outside! to herself
she thought, I can imagine it would have been HELL to have NOT
found this place!
Thank you! Kii replied with the utmost of politeness, Please
excuse my intrusion!
As she came in the office, she began looking all around at the
posters of big cats and almost forgetting why she was even there.
Oh! Wait one moment! Kii raised a finger just as Janice was
about to ask her how she found the place.
Finally she backed out of the office and set her backpack and
hiking poles down on the lobby chairs and began rifling through the
backpack, finally pulling out a weather tight packet, unsealing it and
pulling out a thick stack of papers which she promptly handed to
Janice.
It would be an honor to work in your most esteemed facility
Ms. Rupert-sama! she bowed again three times deeply and stood very
attentively with her eyes gleaming with delight.

40

Janice was shocked on many levels: 1, the girl found her way
here up in the steep mountains, 2, she did so without knowing the
address, 3, she did so carrying a large backpack, and 4, she came fully
prepared with the full intention of becoming an employee, no matter
what else she may have had planned.
After looking over all of the papers in the dossier, this girl was
a progeny!
She already had more degrees than Janice and Missy combined
and she was not even showing any signs of strain from it all!
By the time she finished reading everything including six thesis
on animal behavior, genetic memory, hormonal regulation of brain
function, and comparative anatomical brain structures of leading
intelligent vertebrate species, the only question the English woman
could even ask was, Ahhhhhhhh...a-...and when exactly did you wish
to start work?
Ep 2, Chapter 7
You want to stay here? Janice asked, At the facility?
It would save me a lot of money, I could double as emergency
nurse as well as security and I would be able to work longer hours on
research. the young lady explained.
But then you would have access to all kinds of sensitive
military documents. Janice replied, I can't let you do it.
Kii's normally beaming face became the most painful
expression of pity Janice had ever seen her her life, I am deeply hurt
that you would think that I- she began to murmur.
Its not me, Janice replied almost glibly, its the military. she
pulled a contract out of a file drawer and handed it to the young lady
41

and said, Its their words, not mine, here. Read it your self.
Kii obediently read the contract and its multitude of restrictions
and stipulations, and sure enough, one of them was that no persons
were to sleep on the premise for any reason except in the times of a
national emergency and then only until relief workers could come to
evacuate them.
Well how about if I sleep up in the mountains? Kii asked.
I'm not sure about that, Janice said, I'll have to get back to
you on that.
If you don't mind, Ms. Rupert-sama, Kii asked, If it is not
written down some place on paper already, she drew close enough
Janice could smell her body wash and perspiration, a very heady
mixture of scents, could you please not contact them to ask?
I... feeling somewhat aroused by the close proximity and
strong feminine fragrance of the nubile young lady, she finally replied,
I won't ask them a thing. and as she took a deep breath through her
mouth and out of her nose, she added, That is a promise.
Thank you Ms. Rupert-sama! Kii enthusiastically bowed and
once again beamed brightly, I won't make you regret this! and she
immediately took to gathering up her gear.
Moments later she was heading out the front door of the
laboratory and in minutes was lost amongst the dense foliage up the
mountainside from the facility.
As Janice looked after her through the heavy glass front doors
of the lobby, which bore no emblems, name plates or other
signification as to what this building was even about, she said softly,
What a strange and yet strangely endearing child. then she slowly
turned and returned to her usual work.
42

Ep 2, Chapter 8
When Janice drove up to the roll-up armored underground
parking entrance, a throw back from when it was still a military
outpost, Missy said, Oh look! pointing at Kii who was standing by
the lobby doorway in her lab uniform, fully dressed and ready for
work.
I wonder where she hid that stuff? Janice mused.
What do you mean? Missy asked, looking around for a car,
scooter, bicycle or other means of transportation, Didn't she just bring
it from home this morning?
Not unless she flew here from some place. Janice replied,
Yesterday she came in here on foot with a backpack and hiking
clothes on and no other visible forms of transportation.
WHAT?! Missy exclaimed, You're saying she HIKED all
the way here?!
I'm not 'saying' that, Janice replied as she pulled into her
parking stall and shut off the car, but she sure made it look that way,
as she got out of the car and closed the door she added, she even
asked if she could sleep here at the facilities.
What did you say to her? Missy asked.
I just showed her the contract and explained that it was out of
my power to say yes. Janice replied as she left the garage into the
lobby, crossed the lobby and unlocked the door to the building from
the inside, letting Kii in.
Kii honey, Missy asked, where did you sleep last night!?

43

Ep 2, Chapter 9
I'm an expert mountain climber and did two of my
understudies out in the wilderness. Kii explained gleefully over hot
tea in the cafeteria.
So you have been doing this kind of camping a long time?
Janice asked.
Most of my life actually. the undergraduate replied.
So you just packed up what you needed and hiked half way up
the side of Mt. Kitamata and planned on sleeping here, the English
woman demanded incredulously, regardless of if it was inside or
outside?
Why not? Kii asked.
What about the rest of your things down at home and all?
Janice asked.
Oh everything is just fine Ms. Rupert-sama! Kii beamed,
There is nothing to be worried about! Its all being taken good care of
for me!
Hmmm... Janice pondered.
What about when its winter time? Missy asked.
I'm prepared for arctic survival Ms. Minaggio-sama! Kii
replied without hesitation, I'm prepared to sleep on top of Mt. Fuji at
the drop of a hat!
That's a mighty hefty claim you make there. Janice
contended.

44

As long as I do good work, Kii asked, what does any of this

matter?
The two older women could not in all honesty say anything to
this.
Ep 2, Chapter 10
Kii began setting up logarithms and began installing various
thermographic cameras and other sensors around the cages and she
noticed that the overall health of those who were in the larger rooms
and in rooms with another animal were anywhere from marginally to
markedly higher.
I see from these readings here, she pointed out, those
animals in the group who are in smaller, darker or single occupancy
units are not faring as well as the ones in roomier, better lit and multioccupancy units.
That's strange, Janice remarked, they are known to be
solitary night stalking animals that live in small dens or hollow logs
when raising cubs and often not seeing one another for months at a
time, if any time outside of mating season.
That would be fine if they were in the wild, Kii noted, but
where we are altering their diet, their need for shelter and their overall
food level so that there is no scarcity therefore no competition, all of
the assumed and accepted norms are invalid.
But they EVOL- Janice began.
I don't believe in evolution Ms. Rupert-sama, Kii cut her off,
and besides, this is something outside of their normal parameters.
Still there are instincts. The director insisted.

45

And there is intellect. Missy offered.

Yes! Kii raised both hands like pistols and pointed toward
Missy and said, EXACTLY! then she turned, planting her hands on
the director's desk, Think a moment: what are we here trying to
discern, prove and develop?
You-u-u-u have a point there. Janice pondered this deeply,
So then, she flipped through the reports and papers she had in digital
format on her computer and began looking at everything from this new
approach and said, what if we uh... she was still flipping, using her
finger to drag them on and then off the screen briefly scanning their
titles and abstracts until she came upon what she was looking for: Oh
yes, okay, here: and she spun her computer monitor around for them
to see.
YESSSSSS!!! Kii lit up, EXACTLY!!!
Okay then, Janice announced, starting today we will begin
staged experiments where we increase the ambient lighting, increase
the available living space and increase the mutual populations to see if
there is any merit to this and if so, are there limits or unseen
drawbacks.
Yeah, Missy said, we all know what happens when you put
too many rats or mice in one place, huh.
Lets hope that doesn't happen with these kitties. Kii said in a
worried tone.
Should a fight break out, Janice said, we have ample aerosol
sedative. then as she typed in the directive to change the internal
building's layout in measured stages, she added, Lets make sure we
catch anything before it gets that far.
Episode 3
46

First Signs
Steadily over the following six months, two major changes
were noted: the average health of the cats indeed continued to steadily
improve, and the military provided them with an experimental liquid
suspension cloning machine.
This device had some bugs and kinks to be worked out,
therefore it came with a stern warning that it might fail on them 90%
of the time but to not give up but keep trying and keep reporting its
effectiveness.
They began with splitting cultured morulas prior to blastulation
to produce multiple potential copies of any one experiential
combination.
These were carefully implanted into the device one at a time
and monitored closely.
As this proceeded to show a one hundred percent failure rate
due to the fact that at times there was nobody around to fine tune the
device when it wandered off of optimal settings, Janice came to the
brass and said, Send it back, I doesn't work here.
The mission commander hurried to the facility and began to
demand an explanation.
I can not run such a touchy shifty machine here because it
needs constant 24 hour attention and we can not provide such. she
produced a report, therefore, take it some place where it can get said
attention.
We don't have ANY other programs like this one we can even
DREAM of using this device on Ms. Rupert-sama, the officer
insisted, it simply MUST be HERE.

47

Well, you're wasting your time, she shrugged, and ours.

What do you have besides time Ms. Rupert-sama? the officer
asked.
Deadlines Mr. Tanaki-san, deadlines. she slapped down
reports which showed their time tables were losing precious time
already from this machine refusing to incubate new cubs for the
program, we need to keep a minimum replacement population
coming into play to keep every step of our research going and the
more you people pile onto us, the higher our population has to be to
fulfill all of the new tests.
This machine should be solving your problem. he declared.
And the moon should taste good in a salad dressing too Mr.
Tanaki-san, she smarted off to him, but reality just doesn't work out
that way.
We need this cloning device tested and developed! he
slammed his palm down in frustration, We're into this for a lot of
money and if it fails- he was going to say something vague before she
cut him off.
You won't be able to clone super soldiers.she finished for
him.
What are you tal- he began to backpedal.
Lets get real 'SIR', this whole program, so far as your brass is
concerned is nothing more than a finely dressed petri dish. she
walked around her desk to confront him from a closer angle, We are
here so you can perfect the cloning of super warriors behind closed
doors without anybody being any the wiser.
You're about to severely breach security Ms. Rupert-sama, he
48

raised a finger threatening her, and the resul- he was again cut off.
OH SHUT UP AND LISTEN DAMMIT! she stepped up and
growled in his face, her normally droll, drab, unimposing features
contorting quite effectively, All I need from you is a little change in
protocol, she pulled out the original contract and with her index
finger circled some specific rules and clauses which would easily
permit 24 hour monitoring of the cloning machine, and you will get
the clones you so badly need, she smiled in a coldly calculating
manner, and nobody will be the wiser.
The officer picked up the contract, read what she had indicated
and rolled it up and tucked it into his sleeve.
I believe we have come to an understanding here Ms. Rupertsama, he said with a rather emotionless face, good day to you, now
if you will excuse me. and he strode from her office and out the lobby
to his awaiting staff car.
As he drove away, Kii popped out of the broom locker almost
giving Janice a heart attack as she screamed YIIIIIIIIIESSS!!!
Ep 3, Chapter 2
The following morning, Kii showed up in front of the building
with an incredible amount of stuff!
There were several duffel bags, some aluminum cases, some
black cases with names such as Pentax and Sony on them, a folding
table and three folding chairs.
Where the hell did you get all that from? Janice stepped out
of her car as she rolled up.
Oh I just brought it along to make my stay more cozy Ms.
Rupert-sama. she smiled softly.
49

I'd SAY. Missy marveled, Looks like you were going to take
up permanent residency there or something.
Just standard research equipment Ms. Minaggio-sama. the
undergraduate replied.
What were you researching out there in the night? Janice
asked as she stepped back into her car and activated the armored door,
come on and get that stuff inside before anybody comes up the hill
and sees it. then she closed the door and pulled the Mercedes into the
garage but held it open to let the student pull her things in.
She was amazingly thrifty of movement and with just a few
quick moves scooped up everything and got it all inside the garage
door.
Wow you move that stuff fast! Missy marveled, You do this
often?
Only when I have to Ms. Minaggio-sama. she replied
without her usual gleaming beaming smile.
I can imagine. Janice said, Well for now, put it in the far
back and make it look like it belongs here until we get the okay for
you to stay.
Yes Ms. Rupert-sama! Kii replied, instantly returning to her
usual overly cheerful self.
As the two older women went inside Missy whispered, Do
you think maybe she takes that stuff around with her ALL the time?
Nooooo...! Janice frowned incredulously at the idea, How
on EARTH would somebody go around carrying all their valuables to
the... she ended with a shocked expression.
50

Missy had a similar expression.

Ep 3, Chapter 3
Sure enough, two hours after they opened the doors, the same
officer in charge of the mission had indeed returned and with him he
held a new copy of the contract, where he 'magically' made it right
without anything else changing.
With this in hand, he strode confidently up to the doors and
into them with a big smile and almost bounced into Janice's office
where he slipped the rolled up contract out and laid it before her and
said, I trust we will be able to see results in the near future Ms.
Rupert-sama?
As she scanned the document for the necessary changes, she
was heartened to know that he went above and beyond, allowing a host
of other tenets of the original contract to somehow vanish.
This will definitely allow us to produce the results you are
looking for Mr. Tanaki-san. she replied with an almost imperceptible
smile.
Then I trust your esteemed student researcher has taken her
clutter off of my tidy mountainside? he smiled with a wink and spun
on his heel without looking back, then he turned toward the broom
closet and tipped his hat as he left the building.
Janice stood there speechless.
Kii slipped out of the broom closet after his car drove away and
asked, How did HE know?
Its the military dear, Missy came up the hall from the dining
room, this place is thoroughly bugged, count on it.
51

Ep 3, Chapter 4
Kii wasted no time setting up herself a little room immediately
adjacent to the main room of the large collective pen which was being
dubbed 'the apartment' after some comedy show from some time back.
She was in charge of monitoring the cloning unit and she had
to spend much of the time on it.
It would scarcely go an hour before something inside it was
going out of range.
While she was messing with the machine, she noticed that
there was some tiny points of corrosion at a couple of the welds.
She pulled a micro-bore scope out and examined them all
carefully.
After examining them thoroughly, she took a magnetometer
and checked each point of corrosion and then she ran some other EM
tests.
Sure enough, there were dissonant EM emissions from these
points of corrosion which were interfering with the processor of the
machine, constantly throwing its calculations off.
She did the only logical thing one could do and took a small bit
of simple scouring powder and an old tooth brush and scrubbed the
corrosion away from the welds.
She then rinsed the gunk and wiped it all dry and took new
readings.
The dissonant EM waves had ceased on most of them and were
barely noticeable on one.
52

She searched around for a very small soldering laser and some
self fluxing solder paste and bridged the gaps in all of the welds.
With this done, there were no more dissonant EM emissions
any place.
She gave the machine one last readjustment and sat patiently
waiting.
When she awoke beside the machine as the garage door
vibrations traveled through the compound, she awoke with a start,
afraid she would find it had gone off and killed the blastocyst but to
her immediate relief, she found that the machine had continued
operating right within parameters all night.
At first she was super elated, but then she recalled the entire
conversation which had gotten her here in the first place and she
decided to herself, I best not report this to anybody.
To be sure that this new repair would not be discovered, Kii
first linked her laptop to the mainframe of the facility and hacked the
surveillance systems in the building and put a dry loop of the cloning
machine all by its self unattended into the system on a timer and
walked out of the room.
The moment the system kicked in, she then returned to the
machine, accessed its master command files and copied its primary
functions input and display.
With this, she loaded it onto her laptop and ingeniously
programmed a false interface into the system which could only be
accessed through a remote branched chain drop down menu and then
only with a specific override code she then loaded onto a thumb drive,
and proceeded to put that thumb drive in a hidden recess in the heel of
her hiking boot.
53

She then made certain to hack the security system once again
and timed the perpetual loop out, allowing it to self encapsulate in
another utility subroutine so she could access it later if need be.
Well, she smiled to herself as she un-jacked from the
mainframe, my work here is done! and went to her little sleeping
cell to relax and enjoy a restful sleep.
Ep 3, Chapter 5
Kii had not had such a restful night in months.
She awoke before Janice and Missy arrived and went to the
cafeteria where she started the coffee maker.
When they came in to the fragrance of fresh brewed coffee,
Janice said, Mmm! I could get USED to this kind of morning!
You've done your masters proud young paddle-swan. Missy
said while pulling her chrome plated dirk and holding it like a real
sword.
Kii got the reference and giggled, I am indeed honored Oh-beone-Nirobi
Strong The Farce with this one is! Missy said in a froggy
voice.
As long as the 'jawa' is strong that is all I care. Janice
smirked as she poured a cut of the dark brew.
I got it from 'Java-the-Hutt'. Kii giggled.
You know I've heard of that place. Janice said, But I degothere very often, its been long long ago because its far...far away.
54

Okay, Missy chuckled, enough punishment everybody. as

she replaced her dirk in its thigh holster.
Hey you started it. Janice said.
Well then I'm ending it. Missy declared.
Awweeee. Kii pouted.
Would you look at that face? Janice extended a hand, How
can you be so MEAN to such an ADORABLE face as that?
Comes with being the master of the for- she began.
Ah-ah-ah! Janice waved a reproving finger, You said it was
over. She set down her coffee and walked up to put her finger on
Missy's lips, You can't go back on your words now.
Are you putting words in my mouth now? Missy mumbled
around the finger.
What if I am? Janice defied her.
I'll put something in your mouth HAAAAAAAUMMP!
and she scooped up the head researcher in an embrace and began
kissing her.
Kii was wide eyed and silent for a moment but then she
squealed, ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO!!! with both arms upraised.
Missy was surprised by this response and stopped to eye the
small girl quizzically.
NOW look what you've done! Janice frowned, albeit
playfully, Now EVERYBODY is going to want in on this!
55

Ep 3, Chapter 6
Missy felt very awkward as she looked at the smaller girl with
her arms outstretched like a child, and turned toward Janice with a
completely confused expression.
Oh...go ahead, Janice said, we're not an official couple after
all, you're free to -
You're not? Kii asked, suddenly going limp, somewhat
confused, somewhat disappointed, I thought you were!
And still you wanted -? Janice asked, now feeling a bit
confused and unsettled.
I just wanted a hug. Kii said, I wouldn't kiss somebody
else's significant other, not unless I was one of them as well.
One of oh...HUH? Janice frowned.
I think... Missy leaned back without actually letting go of
Janice, she means like uhh...a... she raised her eyebrows toward Kii
as if to ask wordlessly if she was going in the right direction.
You mean a threesome? Kii asked.
Yeah that. Missy replied.
Oh... Janice frowned in thought, My! then she looked up at
Missy as if searching for her reaction to the whole affair.
I dunno, Missy shrugged, I've never really thought about it
being a loner all my life, then she said, but the way things are, she
stared at Janice, I'm not going to be with anybody unless they are
promising their life to me.
56

You drive a hard bargain girl! Janice said nervously.

I'm not easy, Missy said, and I'm not cheap.
Huh! Janice huffed, TELL me about it! then she looked at
Kii, Have you SEEN this woman's WARDROBE?
Is that a 'yes'? Kii tilted her head to one side, extending her
arms with splayed fingers in the most adorable manner.
YOU drive a hard bargain too little girl! Janice put on a
worried face, I don't know what I'm going to do with EITHER of
you, she sighed, but I don't think I can do this without either of you,
she looked down across the room thoughtfully, so if its all or
nothing, she looked up and smiled adoringly at Missy, then at Kii, I
can take the 'all' option.
YeeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAAAYY! Kii cheered and ran up to
embrace them both, and they each put an arm around her as well.
Ep 3, Chapter 7
A week had passed since Kii fixed the cloning machine.
The machine was busily gestating a full dozen embryos now.
From putting them in one at a time and losing most of them
within 24 hours to putting in all twelve tanks and holding now for
seven days straight, Janice had great news to send to the mission
commander.
When he visited, he saw Kii dutifully making corrections to the
machine only instead of dull gray goo in the chambers, there was a
clear amniotic fluid like liquid and dangling from the tops were curved
lids with a dusty rose colored nutrient membrane material on them.
57

Each of these curved surfaces had tiny little placentas with

small dots in the middles which were the embryos growing.
Using the internal cameras one could see them up close and
make some sense out of them.
It looks like you are indeed making great process Ms. Rupertsama, he smiled broadly, I am glad I was able to entrust this delicate
research into your most capable hands.
I alone would not have been able to do this, Janice pointed
out, without my esteemed colleagues here, I would not have been
able to keep this 'delicate' machine running. she took a deep breath,
it is, indeed a twenty four hour a day job.
Perhaps you should take on more technicians. the mission
commander suggested, Just in case one of these falls ill.
I have two sub-techs who are able to stand in for most
situations, Janice replied, pointing to two men, one in his fifties, this
is Tan Hayashi, and one in his thirties and this is Robert Inoue. who
stood nearby monitoring other computers, they each in turn nodded
and bowed to the mission commander, Robert is single and could be
here over night if he had to be, she said, and I have a few other
graduates I am considering hiring on as well, once they have
graduated.
That's good to hear Ms. Rupert-sama. he smiled, Perhaps
we will have the inventor build a second machine, he spread out his
hands toward the first machine gesturing a much larger area, one with
ten times the capacity.
Lets be sure we can get the bugs worked out of the first one
before we make a second perhaps, Mr. Tanaki-san. she smiled
demurely, It would be very embarrassing to begin victoriously and
58

end in defeat.
You have a very good point Ms. Rupert-sama, he nodded
thoughtfully, lets hope those bugs and kinks are worked out soon.
We're all with you Mr. Tanaki-san. she smiled and bowed.
I know you are. he smiled and turned, Well then, smiling
to everybody in the room, if you will excuse me, I must be about
other business.
When the commander's car pulled away, Janice sighed a sigh of
relief, The last thing we need, she said to everybody in the room, is
another, BIGGER headache like THIS one!
Everybody heartily agreed.
Ep 3, Chapter 7
At Missy's insistence, and with a lot of begging and pleading to
Robert the assistant technician, the three girls went on a date.
They left from the research facility after Robert arrived after he
went home and fed his cat and cooked dinner for his widowed mother,
bringing a night bag with him.
Now be sure to check it every four hours, Kii instructed, it
seems to go out almost like clockwork. which was quite literally the
truth since she programmed it to 'seem to go out' almost exactly on
four hour cycles, making sure that the program evened them out to an
exact six times every day regardless of how far apart they really
occurred.
This ensured the illusion of randomness as well as ensuring
that it would not be so far apart as to seem to give hope that the system
had actually stabilized.
59

I set up an alarm that should wake you if you do not catch it,
so I hope you are not a heavy sleeper. she added.
Robert nodded and bowed humbly before saying, I have
plenty to keep me awake Miss Myonati-san. holding up three bioengineering books and a laptop.
Good. she smiled, I trust you'll do your best.
Well we're off then! Janice declared, Don't hesitate to call
me if there is any kind of serious problem!
They left in the Mercedes and made their way down the
mountainside to the city many kilometers away.
When they got into town, they first went to the favorite
Chinese buffet of Janice and Missy's.
They chatted about research, then about life and about the
future.
So how is this going to work, Janice took a sip from a glass
of wine while staring at Missy then swallowed before continuing,
exactly?
What? Missy asked, being caught off guard by the
unintroduced question.
This. she said, being shy and not one who was good with
topics related to relationships, reverting to gesturing to the three of
them at the table going from Kii to Missy to herself, then ducking her
head and shrugging.
I think she means marriage. Kii offered.

60

Oh...OHHHHHHH! Missy responded, then paused and

frowned, Well, she shrugged, I suppose we'll have to read up on it
or something.
Whaaaaaat? Janice frowned incredulously, You don't 'read
up on' marriage... then she looked at Kii, do you?
Ahhh... Kii replied thoughtfully, I haven't so far, then she
beamed like usual, but I CAN if you need me to!
Maybe I should just ask my parents. Missy offered, They're
pretty knowledgeable about stuff like this.
You saying that just because they're married? Janice asked.
No, Missy replied, because my father has a license to
conduct traditional weddings and has performed over a thousand of
them in his free time.
Ohhhhhhhh!! Kii's eyes lit up, A real romancer, huh!
saying 'romancer' in English.
Oo-well... Missy shrugged, HE's not the one getting
married...
A 'romantic' perhaps? Janice suggested.
Yeah that's it! Kii giggled.
You're not too great with English are you? Janice smirked.
But I TRY! the small lady extended her hands, fingers
splayed.
Well at least you excel in adorableness for sure! Janice
smiled.
61

Well that covers a multitude of sins. Missy smiled.

Later that evening, they went to the same club where they first
met Kii.
No sooner than they walked in the door, however, an Asian
woman, perhaps in her forties, with her hair up in a topknot with the
end spiked backwards, dressed in a black leather outfit, somewhat like
a street ruffian came striding directly up to Kii and said, Get your
stuff I need you tonight.
Both Janice and Missy were shocked by this but Kii simply
replied, I have my place now, smiling politely, but thank you
anyhow.
Janice and Missy stopped exchanged glances, then simply
watched but did not interfere, waiting to see what the real deal with Kii
was and if they really wanted to get deeply involved with her or not.
What's the big deal? the tough chick asked, I hear you're
always looking for a warm bed to share.
Rumors are nasty things Wang-san, Kii said softly, you
shouldn't let them get on you.
Sounds like the rumors are all OVER you Kii-chan, the
tough girl was making sure everybody in the club was listening in on
the conversation, anybody in this room you HAVEN'T slept with?
Besides you, you mean? Kii smiled innocently.
What's THAT supposed to mean? the one known as 'Wang'
demanded, Somehow I'm not GOOD enough? she was clearly
getting offended.

62

Good is a relative term Wang-san, Kii said, and last I recall,

we aren't related.
Well how about I MAKE you related? the older woman
started to reach out and grab Kii only to find empty space.
Kii had not merely ducked, she had rolled backward across the
club floor to wind up crouched directly behind Missy.
Just as fast as her hand lashed out, it was trapped by the slender
yet very strong hand of Missy.
Hey, Ms Wang-san, Missy said, how about you let the little
lady be and we'll call this even, okay?
Wang did not like competition, and she hated being shown up,
and facing this six foot seven inch Gothic Lolita was not her idea of
the ideal scene, especially not if it meant backing down.
You have one second to release my hand. Wang spat.
Time's up. Missy smiled sweetly, Your turn.
Wang lashed out with her left foot but missed as Missy's head
slipped back just clear of the stiletto boot heel which could have at
least left a nasty gash, depending on how combat built it was.
The boot came right back and was quickly followed by the
other foot, but Missy caught this motion while the mad woman was
right at the half way point by crouching and slamming the pinwheel
kicking woman head first into the dance club floor.
The woman bounced up, breaking free of Missy's grip
staggering, seeing double, but not about to let this go.
I'd strongly advise you, Janice said in a distinctly 'Queen's
63

English' accent, in English, quit while you're only SLIGHTLY behind

madame.
Fuck you. Wang said in English with a strong Asiatic accent
before side hopping to close in on Missy who had wisely stepped back,
guiding Kii gently back at the same time.
As the woman came in for a lashing side kick, however, Missy
once again ducked it and with her longer legs swept the feet out from
beneath the aggressor.
The woman caught herself before she hit hard again, but she
did have to tumble, knocking down spectators who were now both
screaming, cursing and cheering either or both opponents.
I so hate to fight. Missy sighed, But you have just walked
into something you are NOT going to WALK out of now.
Taking back a Siempieu Dragon stance, Missy seemed to
transform somehow.
Her face seemed to almost take on a hawkish, manly
appearance and the muscles on her normally soft arms seemed to knot
up rigid.
The aggressor also took a stance, a Tiger stance to be exact,
and then they both dove into the fray.
Claws and chungs, punches and finger jabs lanced back and
forth between the two of them, seldom was there a point of contact,
but when there was, there was little to show for it because both of
them seemed to be built of leather and steel.
The two of them were both highly skilled fighters, despite one
being a nerdy laboratory technician.

64

Missy had one major advantage in this fight, however and it

began to tell.
With her greater reach, she was able to make more connections
by a ratio of three to one and she began landing more and more critical
strikes to the neck, ribs, inner arms, and three sudden repeated back
knuckle raps to Wang's temple which caused the fighter to stumble
back wobbling, clearly dazed.
Being an honorable fighter, Missy let her step back and did not
press the attack for an easy win.
You can quit now or I can leave a lasting impression on you.
Missy said in a very deep tone that unnerved everybody in the place
except Janice who knew she was Futanari and Kii who seemed to get
excited chills from the extreme and refined power she was witnessing.
Wang was unnerved by the voice but she said, Oh! trying to
throw psychological warfare into the mix, A he-she ey? Pre or post
op?
Missy is a Futanari. Janice said drolly in Japanese which
made a lot of people gasp, including Kii who had never figured it out,
And she is my future bride, so you best watch your mouth if you want
to keep your teeth.
And what are YOU gonna do about it English BITCH? Wang
spat feeling confident that she knew the game and how to play it.
I'm going to make sure she beats you to a pulp is what I'm
going to do about it. Janice said in a rather bland, boring tone.
How about I-? she began just before Janice pulled a Mineba
SKC 9mm military pistol in one hand and a military ID in the other,
clearly having been finding these in the dim light of the night club
while people's eyes were on the fight.
65

I have a legal permit as a military subcontractor to carry a

concealed firearm at all times and in any public facility, Janice said in
her calm droll voice, and I'm a crack shot, trained by both the Royal
Navy and the JDF. she smiled ever so imperceptibly, Are you going
to continue your fight now, she asked in a rather matter-of-fact
manner, or are you just going to stand there and get beaten
mercilessly?
The woman put her hands in her pocket, which made Janice
follow them, I'm not blind - just before the woman snatched them
out throwing something into the air and dashing away.
Fortunately, Missy had the sense to whip out her umbrella, a
must-have accessory which hung from her back by a strap and
deflected the powder before it got into her or Janice's eyes.
Several patrons nearby began sneezing and screaming as the
powder drifted in the air and got into their eyes and nose.
Good choice Wang. Janice smirked as she put the gun and ID
away, Lets get out of here ladies, this is no place for women of
dignity.
Ep 3, Chapter 8
They were silent all the way back to Janice's house.
You want to sleep here tonight? Janice asked Kii, You have
the night off after all.
If you don't mind. she replied, feeling a bit self conscious.
Not at all. she shrugged, I wouldn't have offered if it were a
problem Kii-chan.

66

I just thought... the short researcher began but trailed off.

That your past would be a problem? Janice asked, I didn't
automatically assume you were a virgin if that is what you are asking,
then she looked at Missy and then back at Kii and said, it must be
tough growing up on the streets, especially while getting all those
educational degrees and such, she sighed, some people do things
they have to to survive after all.
But I'm still a virgin! Kii suddenly protested, making a truly
unhappy face for the first time since they had met.
Clinically you mean? Missy asked.
Noooooooo!! Kii moaned, Like...EVER! she had a very
sad, despondent and yet desperate expression, I'm not the kind of
floozie that woman there wants people to think I am!
I won't ask you why she said what she said, Missy replied,
I've been called everything you can imagine, and she is clearly the
kind who has no respect or decency and whether or not you were
really didn't matter to her one bit.
The thing is, Kii said, I have determined and devoted my
life to getting an education and then getting a career before I went and
foolishly screwed up my life like my mother did.
I see. Janice nodded, Wise choice.
I deliberately chose girls with super jealous significant others
so that when push came to shove I knew ways to get out of a bad
situation.
I see! Janice raised her eyebrows, So how did you end up
with us? she asked as she walked into the kitchen and set on some
barley tea.
67

When I saw you Janice-sama, Kii confessed, I knew that

you were not there looking to pick up on young girls and then when I
met Missy and she told me the whole story, I was just plain blown
away by you both!
Well I didn't tell you the WHOLE story... Missy blushed.
Oh...well... Kii blushed, I guess I kinda of sensed
'something' there, from your size and strength, your overall mental
patterns and how you are around Janice-sama, she explained, but to
be truthful, she looked at the floor, blushing more in shame than
anything, I honestly thought you were transsexual my self before
tonight.
I get that from time to time, Missy shrugged and sighed,
especially if I let my voice go.
I never cared though to be honest, Kii raised her eyes in
honest adoration, to me, either way you were beautiful and in a way,
now to me you're even MORE beautiful!
One time we were at the beach, Janice said as she came back
with the tea on a tray and began passing it out, 'can you believe it?'
and a blond woman, apparently from the states, possibly in college
came right up and said, 'I don't know WHAT you are, but you're HOT!'

Missy blushed at this tale, You didn't have to tell her that
one.
Oh... Janice sighed in mock exasperation, coming from
somebody who dresses like YOU do? she rolled her eyes waving
Missy's comment away dismissively, Oh come on...!
Ep 3, Chapter 9
68

The three of them agreed it was 'OK' to sleep in the same bed,
dressed as long as everybody behaved themselves.
I don't have any ideas, Missy declared, walking to the large
windowed wall of the bedroom and peering out through the curtains at
the night sky, you know that by now Janice.
Janice sighed and answered, plopping down on the king sized
plush bed, Yeah.
I'm too young to get pregnant. Kii said, standing at the foot
of the bed getting an idea how wide it was and how much space there
would be for each of them.
Huh? Janice asked as she began rummaging through her
night stand for clean underwear.
I mea-well-I mean... she stopped and took a deep breath,
blushing once again, I mean I don't want to do like my mother did is
all.
Oh... Janice thought about it, Okay.
I have armored pajamas on anyhow. Missy smiled
triumphantly, Can't get into them with a bolt cutter!
Ohhhh! Kii purred, Let me see!
Later. Janice said, Showing each other our underwear is not
conducive to good sleep patterns.
Bingo. Missy said.
Okay. Kii smiled cheerfully, Well I get the first bath! and
scurried off to the bathroom.
69

Save me some hot water! Janice cried.

She's quite the handful. Missy shook her head as she
gracefully lowered herself down on the bed on the far side from
Janice.
Compared to you though, Janice remarked eyeing the tall
woman, she's not much MORE...
Missy burst out laughing hilariously.
Ep 3, Chapter 10
None of the three slept very well being as none of them had
ever slept with another person beside them all their lives.
Well that went roughly. Janice yawned groggily, I hope this
is not how married life works.
Same here. Missy grumbled, puffy eyed, I felt like if I
touched anything I would catch on fire or something.
I couldn't sleep because you two kept staring at me all night.
Kii said.
Sorry about that. Janice apologized, It comes with the
territory I suppose.
Maybe we should have slept in different beds or something.
Missy yawned as she slowly eased herself out of bed.
OR just get more used to each other! Kii suggested.
You always take the direct route, don't you? Janice asked
weakly.
70

Only way to overcome a problem is to confront it. the

smallest researcher declared.
Sounds like something my chemistry professor said. Janice
groaned.
And my physics professor. Missy grumbled.
We must have all had the same teacher! Kii exclaimed then
giggled.
I wonder what the odds of THAT are. Janice murmured.
No you don't. Missy murmured back, And don't START
wondering either.
Good idea. Janice said, That old wind bag would have
laughed his ass off.
Like everything else he laughed about. Missy unwittingly
added.
Wait! Kii looked at them both wide eyed, Did he have a
small tumor on his left ear?!
They all stared at one another in shock, then burst out in wild
laughter.
Episode 4
Where The Wild Things Grow...In Captivity
There were seventeen adult black jaguars at the start of the
program and they were generally quite wild.
The cubs which came into the apartment were not well met at
71

first but because Missy was so large and imposing wearing her animal
armor and could push and pull and play with the big cats, she kept
them from hurting the cubs during their daily four hours of group
association.
You going to grow up and be a bunch of weal sweeties aren't
you? Missy was wont to say all the time and she talked baby talk to
the cubs and played with them as much as her timer allowed.
Kii would come play with them when she woke up for her
evening shift and had given them all play names like 'boat', 'paper hat',
'flying fish', 'cuddle', 'tangerine', 'heron', 'romper' and 'tail swinger.' and
they responded to these pet names after only two weeks of her nightly
presence.
She would sneak them canned tuna fish which they just loved
like crazy.
These cubs grew quickly and in three months were the size of
adults and were then placed permanently in with the adults.
They tended to sleep together away from the adults but they
would socialize with the adults during their waking ours.
It would seem some times that the cubs would lay there and
whisper to one another when one sat quietly and watched them.
If any of the researchers went into the apartment they would
swarm them and roll around and purr a lot while the wild adults would
normally remain to the sides of the room.
I bet I could go into that apartment without my armor and
those cubs would defend me. Missy said one day at breakfast.
You better not try. Janice warned her cutting up a rice
omelette, I'll fire your ass if they leave any of it to fire.
72

You're mean. Missy grumbled, You think I can't take care of

my self?
Without hurting government property? Janice asked. No.
as she sipped her coffee.
Awww... Missy groaned, Where's your sense of adventure?
It wandered off shortly after I was born, or so I am told.
Janice grumbled, No is no.
Ep 3, Chapter 2
I think I would do alright in there personally. Missy
grumbled to Kii.
Still its not a smart idea. Kii replied, They are still wild
animals and they can't be trusted to be loyal or anything and we'd all
be in a heap of trouble.
That's one of the things about Janice I have always struggled
with. Missy said, almost as if she had not heard what Kii said, She is
such a stick-in-the-mud.
Then don't marry her. Kii offered, testing to see if Missy was
listening.
WHAAAAT? Missy almost jumped out of her seat.
You are sitting here complaining about her as if she is
somehow personally wronging you when she is actually looking out
for your welfare as well as the rest of us. Kii pointed out in a soft but
very factual tone. You are going on like a spoiled brat.
I guess I just have too much testosterone in me. Missy
73

sighed, resting her head on the upturned palm of her left hand while
she clicked on the screen before her with a mouse in her right hand.
Yeah. Kii agreed, Too much 'MAN-juice'. and she broke
into giggling as she leapt up from her own desk and took off running.
HEYYY!!! Missy lashed out but caught only the air where
Kii had been sitting, Take that back!
Its true. Kii giggled as she sprang for the door and dashed
down the hall giggling.
Kids these days. Missy sighed and shook her head, I'll show
you 'man juice'... then as she sat there thinking about it she couldn't
help but press down on the itching lump that was trying to grow up in
her panties, Now look what you went and done.
Ep 4, Chapter 3
Wow Missy-chan! she breathed, eyes wide, You are as big
as you look!
Kii sat up thinking about Missy, which led her to replaying the
loop she had captured of the Futanari before overlaying it with less
stimulating activity for the official video record on the closed circuit
camera.
She replayed the loop several times while finding herself
getting quite stimulated, I think maybe I see what Janice-sama sees in
you!
She found herself digging at her own nether regions but
realizing she was sitting in front of the very same camera, she had the
sensibility to get up and go to the restroom which she had long ago
scanned for cameras.

74

There she took advantage of the fact that she could turn off the
lights in the restroom and with nothing but the dim exit light she could
satisfy her excitement and even if there were any cameras, if they were
not infra red, they would not see anything.
When she was done, she simply wiped herself dry, washed her
hands and returned to work as if nothing had ever happened, even
though she did shudder a couple of times from aftershocks while she
walked down the hall way.
Ep 4, Chapter 4
Janice came in to work to find Kii glowing.
First Missy and now you? Janice observed as the littlest
research hummed lightly and floated around the cafeteria as if in the
midst of a ballet.
We didn't do anything, Missy insisted, if that is what you're
still thinking.
It sure LOOKS like something happened. Janice eyed them
suspiciously.
Its all her fault. Kii said surreptitiously, then instantly flowed
back into dancing.
Hey! Wait! Missy complained leaping up and chasing the
little lady down, WHAT'S 'all my fault'?
The captured Kii leaned over and giggled gleefully but failed to
detail the requested answer.
Hmm... Janice eyed the young researcher suspiciously,
Have you been spying on your fellow employees?

75

I'm not saying anything! Kii giggled which led to Missy

lowering her to the ground and tickling her, making her squeal shrilly
until the men who worked there came in alarmed to see what the
commotion was all about.
Is something wrong!? Mr. Hayashi burst into the room wide
eyed, then got even wider eyed when he saw the two lead researchers
playing on the floor.
Yes. Janice said flatly, Get the tranq gun and some nets.
she sipped her coffee, They're both wild animals.
Ep 4, Chapter 5
Major Shin Tanaki came on his inspection of the facilities in
January and was very pleased with the results of the cloning device.
A second brood of one dozen cubs were being grown now, and
their genes were hand selected from the last set of cubs as well as
some from the adults and were expected to have higher intelligence,
greater docility and more domesticated tendencies.
This is very interesting work. the major said, When will you
be suiting them up?
Well Mr. Tanaki-san, Janice replied, as much as you love
projections, I'm not in the business of giving projections, only
recordings, of success of course.
When will they reach maturity then? he pestered her.
From what we can tell, she read the chart, they are maturing
four times the natural rate.
Very good, very good. he smiled, Keep up the good work.
and he turned to Missy, What are their test scores like?
76

Well sir, she presented her laptop, their intelligence on

average is equal to Radab and specimen AC203 is showing stellar
intelligence rated at an SVIQ of 44.
What does that translate to in human IQ? he asked as he
scrolled through the test results and the various charts with numbers,
colors and graphs.
We're reaching equivalent intelligence on the Ryshner scale of
twenty three sir, she said, about the intelligence of a four year old
human.
This is at the age of six months? he asked scrolling up and
down to compare notes and graphs from various dates.
Yes sir. the tall researcher replied.
Do YOU happen to have projections? he raised an eyebrow.
If I may be conservative, sir, she swallowed hard, I can see
in twelve months them developing the intelligence of five to six year
old children for certain.
That's the intelligence of a twenty five year old chimpanzee
Ms. Minaggio-san. he eyed her dubiously.
I am hesitant to make such claims to be honest sir, the
technician agreed, but based on their current rate of mental
development using our present training techniques, she pointed along
the graphs, the present rate is higher and seems to be steadily
climbing.
I see, he nodded, so we can assume at least the average
intelligence of an older chimpanzee within a year or two of steady
training.
77

Easily, sir. she nodded.

Good, very very good. then he turned to the smallest
researcher and said, And you are obtaining loyalty reports completely
off the charts and out of the scales for the base species?
Yes Major sir! Kii smiled cheerfully, Come let me
demonstrate.
Without waiting for his response, she totally shocked both
Missy and Janice by walking right up, deactivating the security gate
and stepping into the apartment without her armor.
The cubs lunged at once making even the seasoned officer cry
out in alarm.
She opened her arms and scooped up three of them as they
licked her face profusely.
And to think you were going to fire me if I did that. Missy
shook her head and turned, throwing her head back and leaning against
the cage, soon to be playfully pawed from behind by one of the cubs.
Oh there you are Romper-chan! as she reached in and rubbed
the enthusiastic cub's head.
I am giving you a complete pass! the astonished officer cried
then bowed joyously, If you will excuse me now, he stood up
smiling, I have a glowing report to deliver! and he saluted.
The three of them saluted him in return and he spun on his heel
and gaily strode out of the room.
You... Janice leaned against the gate glaring at Kii, are so...
she panted, Fiiihhhhhhhhh and she collapsed.
78

Janiiiiiii!!! Kii cried and rushed to the gate as Missy began

performing CPR.
Ep 4, Chapter 6
The ambulance arrived two hours after Janice collapsed and
they began administering O2 and adrenaline.
She had a sudden shock and she has anemia so when she was
stressed to the limit, she just collapsed. the EMT daclared.
So she's not going to die or anything? Kii asked fearfully.
Not this time little lady. the man smiled, But way I hear it
you play with ferocious lions and tigers-
They're black jaguars sir. she corrected him.
Oh yeah right. he blushed.
I'm not a child you know, she pointed out, I'm a legal adult
working at a military facility and I can be spoken to as an
adult...please.
Y-yes ma'am. he apologized, Well to answer your question
specifically, Ms. Rupert-sama had Pernicious Anemiatic Fatigue and
has to take specific medications which enable her to absorb sufficient
vitamin B-12 or her body will not synthesize adequate red blood
cells. he produced a hand held medical device and continued to read,
the patient may also be suffering from adrenaline fatigue syndrome
since she is suffering from reduced adrenaline at the time due to her
genetic condition.
Thank you sir. Kii accepted the long explanation, Now we
will know what to do to take care of her. and then she bowed.
79

You are most welcome Miss...? he began.

She lifted her staff ID tag and said, Kii Myonati, sir.
Yes Ms. Myonati-san. he bowed in return, Most honored to
make your acquaintance and help you in this instance.
Missy came back from the cafeteria where the other two EMTs
were helping Janice normalize and said, She seems to be recovering
now, she smiled weakly, but she is very weak and may need to take
some time off from work.
That would stress her worse than working! Kii cried in grief,
We somehow need to make sure she can handle this job better
without her having to sit some place wondering what we're up to while
she's not here.
What 'WE' are up to...? Missy planted her hands on her hips,
Speak for your SELF, little miss trouble maker!
Ep 4, Chapter 7
Janice had a reclining powered hospital bed brought directly to
her office.
Five men in uniforms came with the bed on a military transport
truck and they lowered it down, rolled it in and wrestled everything
into place.
It sure looks mighty funny. Missy remarked.
It looks cozy! Kii exclaimed, Can I cuddle up to you?
Are you going to be doing anything crazy? Janice asked her
with a warning yet questioning expression.
80

Oh no! Kii declared, I'm all through with the exciting life
forever!
Yeah right. Missy snorted, You're like a vial of nitroglycerin
just waiting for the next excuse to go off.
I'll change... Kii plead, I know I can!
Just like you can whisper, right? Missy smirked.
What's that? Kii asked in a soft, subdued whisper, pretending
to not understand.
Okay you won that one. Janice smiled weakly, Please
maintain that winning streak... the bland looking woman plead, For
me?
YYY... Kii began to exclaim but then stopped and corrected
herself softly, walking up and tenderly embracing the older, weakened
woman, you bet Janice-chan.
Ep 4, Chapter 8
Major Tanaki issued Janice an order of R&R but all Janice did
was file for a deferment 'due to extenuating circumstances'.
While nobody had ever before filed a deferment action on an
R&R order, it went into the system's bureaucracy where it proceeded
to get set for a hearing approximately two years off in the future.
Now that THAT'S taken care of, Janice smiled to her self in
delight, I can continue with my research!
Over the next three months, two more sets of cubs came out of
the cloning machine.
81

The machine was producing these newer clones faster then

ever before because Kii was adjusting it when everybody else was
away.
She had increased the nutrient infusion rate by .0987%, the
brooding temperature by 1.22% and oxygen transpiration rate by 3.4%
while supplementing the embryos with a microscopic doping with
insulin.
This resulted in larger animals with larger cranial cavities.
The animals which came from the latest batch did not appear to
the unaided eye to be much different but their weights and dimensions
were several percentage points larger than previous broods.
Looks like we've got a good thing going here. Janice
reviewed the information, I would seem to be led to believe that with
aggressive and proactive tuning every four hours you can get really
good results.
It would seem so Janice-chan. Kii replied very softly.
I dunno, Missy replied, some times I completely forget to
check in on the machine any more because it seems to be producing
repeatable results regardless of what is going on on the monitor.
Kii was very uncomfortable but she was using the quiet mode
to cover this discomfort.
Well as long as we get the desired and required results, she
smiled in an offhanded manner and handed the reports back to Kii, I
for one am not going to ask any questions.
Thank you Janice-chan. Kii replied relieved.

82

Thanks for what? Janice asked.

Kii suddenly realized she had thanked Janice for not delving
into the reason they were getting such stellar results with such
wayward, unsteady equipment, so she had to think quickly.
For the reports here Janice-chan. she hefted the printouts.
Oh. she regarded the stack, and Kii suddenly embraced the
ream and a half of papers to her little chest and beamed in adoration, I
see. then she looked at Missy with a look of passive
incomprehension, Okay.
Ep 4, Chapter 9
Missy began staying at Janice's place just to be sure she had
some help and in case she had another attack.
You don't mind, Janice asked Kii, do you?
I just wish I was there too is all. Kii responded sadly, But
there is no way I would be opposed to the two people I love the most
in the whole wide world being together.
Janice blushed but in a proud, adoring manner and she gently
scooped the Little researcher into her arms and said, When this
project is completed and we no longer need to monitor these machines
24 hours a day, she lightly kissed the younger lady on the cheek, you
can move in as well.
I'd love that Janice-chan. she reached her arms around and
embraced Janice in return, I look forward to that day.
Missy reached out and patted Kii's head and said, First you
are going to have to learn to relax.

83

Janice smiled up at Missy while gently rocking back and forth

with Kii and said, I think that goes for all of us dear.
Ep 4, Chapter 10
Kii sat up watching the machinery, read the scanners, fed the
cats their midnight meal and recorded data.
She replayed the loop of Missy dealing with her excitement
again, relieved her own excitement, and then pondered the issue
presented before her: give up her secret as to how the machines were
performing so well and move in with Missy and Janice, or keep the
secret and protect them from any potential fall out from the JDF.
She imagined several scenarios of the three of them, mostly in
bed, and some of them were less intense but no less romantic, such as
vacationing on a private island and playing on the beach together.
She pondered long and hard, back and forth, feeling sad and
lonely and yet knowing that her emotions could lead to a far worse end
for all of them.
Kii, she said to herself, You're really fixed yourself up in a
good pickle THIS time! she lightly pounded her puffed out cheeks
with her tiny fists making farting sounds then she sighed and shrugged
I suppose some times being smart is its on tragedy. and went to her
cell, got undressed and went to bed.
Good night Janice-chan, good night Missy-chan, she said
into the night air, I love you.
Episode 5
First Expeditionary Adventures
The first batch of a dozen cubs reached age six months in
April, eleven batches of cubs had been produced since then and were
84

being raised in compressed training sessions every day.

The six month old cubs were now the size of normal adults and
were well toned.
They were being fit with body harnesses so that they could be
taken outside and walked in the mountains.
With these harnesses on, they could be controlled without the
fear that they would run off and have to be tracked down and
tranquilized or worse to be caught.
Their IQ numbers were in the fifties and they had no problem
repeating simple commands as well as using more complex symbols to
communicate needs, rudimentary feelings and ask for items they
wanted, such as food, a ball, a bath or the new 'kitteo-game' Kii
designed with the praise and blessings of the mission commander
which allowed them to hunt objects on a screen by licking the screen.
This action brought about a small bang sound, the object
digitally exploding, and a small treat dropping out of a dispenser
below the screen.
This game taught them that to lick the targets in the appropriate
shape, color or sequence of movements in each round would win them
a treat.
Some times it was discerning red soldiers from blue and green
ones, some times it was discerning flags, some times it was rank
insignias, and some times it was discerning armed men from unarmed
men.
Each task required a perfect score to get the treat.
All the cubs had to do was lick the appropriate 'bad' object and
it would resultantly 'explode.'
85

When all of the 'bad' icons were gone, the round was won and
the treat dropped.
At first they began with simple singular icons to teach them the
concept, but over time the games got more and more complex and
some times the icon values were reversed to be sure the animals were
following orders and not merely habitual conditioning.
Their scores continued to rise.
The cubs would then play side by side, which they were doing
because the cubs might need to operate in team formation, and each
cub was given a different color 'bad guy' to lick.
This some times caused confusion and some times the cubs
would go to playing with each other instead of the game until Kii
would get their attentions and get them back into the game.
It seemed that when she placed a smarter, more skilled cub up
against an inferior cub, when the smarter one would win, they would
act proud and haughty while the loser would show signs of shame.
She reported every minor detail, noting when they tied they
would some times shove one another with their paws, but if one would
win by a clear margin, there was signs of dominance displayed almost
the way humans would.
Some times after the games when they were released back into
the apartment, it would seem that the whole body of the cubs would
gather round and they would seemingly sniff the ones returning,
possibly to determine who won by who smelled more like snacks.
If these behaviors were not peculiar enough, however, when
she put specimens T104 and K992 in the game, they worked almost
seamlessly as a pair and if T104 was not going well, K992 would put
86

her paw up on the screen to mark where T104 was supposed to lick.
This was clear because as soon as K992 would grunt and paw
the screen, T104 would immediately lick the target and get the count.
Not only did they tie often because of this apparent
cooperation, but if K992 won, she did something even more
unexpected: she would share her treat or simply give it to T104.
This was more than merely social behavior too.
This in fact, had never been seen in their breed, and it was duly
noted.
She began noting that when the pair was released back into the
apartment, most of the cubs would stand nearby but none of them
would actually sniff their muzzles.
Since they were all basically black jaguars without name tags,
tattoos, collars or other visible forms of identification and were
identified solely by subcutaneous identification chips, to glance out on
the group, one would not easily identify any one, let alone any two
cats.
But by watching this peculiar pair as they left the classroom,
she took the time to observe them to see if she could pick out any other
noteworthy details about them.
She carefully monitored them by placing digitally guided
cameras on 'case-trace', a commonly used program for identifying
individuals with problems in a pack in case they needed to be
segregated for some reason.
What she found was that these two would stay side by side all
day and all night and would sleep laying over one another, unlike any
of the other cats.
87

Why did I not notice this before? she asked herself.

When she came out to the apartment to look in on them,
however, she got her answer.
Since every time people came up to the gate of the apartment,
all of the cubs and most of the adults would stir if not come right up to
the cage, one could scarcely catch the pair lounging together if they
entered the proximity of the apartment proper.
Its either mere coincidence, she wrote a remark, or the two
of them do not wish to be seen as pairing off from the rest of the
group. Make note to keep the recorders on during any and every visit
to see if they rise up with every visitor and if they resume their
closeness upon the departure of visitors.
Ep 5, Chapter 2
So you're telling me that these two cubs have formed a pair?
Janice asked while reading the report.
I'm just recording their activities Janice-sama. Kii smiled.
Still, Janice scrolled down through the reports and footnotes,
this is pretty remarkable stuff.
I agree. Missy chimed in leaning over Janice's shoulder
reading the report, 'Does this possibly mean they are interacting on an
elevated social level?' I wonder.
If so then it means that they are a lot more intelligent than
they may be letting on to be, Janice regarded the numbers and made a
mental chart to connect the statistical data, there are ways, she
mused, if we put them in a series of scenarios, she rubbed her chin
while jotting down notes, we could determine if there is a hidden
88

cache of reserve intelligence we're not seeing displayed here but which
might be drawn out under, say... tipping back her head and peering off
into her imagination, live fire exercises, for instance.
Ep 5, Chapter 3
Janice requisitioned some specially engineered rubber jawed
traps be made and delivered to the laboratory.
Along with this, she ordered smoke grenades, CS gas canisters,
a frightening looking yet limited capacity flame thrower, thirty actual
soldiers armed with blanks and flash-bang grenades.
The Mission commander's response was overly zealous.
The following morning he came to the laboratory with five
trucks and a hundred soldiers.
You sure know how to keep us well stocked commander.
Janice mused as the five troop transport trucks unloaded their payload
of soldiers in full gear.
Why not make it more exciting? he asked with a smile,
Many of these men have not seen any action since they joined the
JDF, and although this is not a 'live' fire exercise, its closer than any of
them have seen since boot camp.
I don't wish to give the animals a heart attack sir. Janice
protested.
If the animals seem to be in that much distress, I have ordered
the men to fall back Ms. Rupert-sama. he replied.
I hope they can tell a distressed cat from an aggressive cat.
Janice remarked.

89

Probably not, the mission commander admitted, but I told

them to err on the side of caution and not provoke the animals beyond
trying to scare them a little.
Lets hope this does not make them afraid of all JDF forces.
Missy remarked.
We'd just have to train a new batch is all. the commander
declared.
There might be problems with that theory. Kii murmured
quietly.
What was that? the commander asked.
Nothing sir. she amended her remark.
Ep 5, Chapter 4
The oldest batch of cubs and the adults were released into the
fenced in section of the compound where they were being allowed to
exercise and where some early combat identification lessons were
being held.
The cubs and the adults seemed to split into two completely
different groups immediately, only one cub decided to go with the
adults, subject DT02.
It seemed that this one cub, a male, was larger and stronger
than the other cubs, but tested low on the intelligence scores, and
seemed the company of the relatively normal intelligence of the adults.
When the cubs and adults were well dispersed into the woods,
some of them stepped into the traps and began letting out roars and
yowls of distress.

90

Soon others came to see what the deal was and some began
trying to chew off the traps, some began trying to pull them out from
the steel pins that were driven into the ground to anchor them.
Oddly enough, DT02, after several unsuccessful attempts to
dislodge an adult from a trap, bound down the mountainside toward
the compound.
Once there he yowled and moaned while pawing the sliding
steel panel where they would normally enter and exit.
While he was making his plea for attention the cameras were
following this.
He pawed the door and the ground, tried butting it with his
head, tried digging under it with his claws, all signs that he desperately
wanted in where the humans were.
At the same time, the soldiers began leaping out of blinds and
rushing the bewildered cats with the loud crackle of gunfire while
throwing the loud, bright and disorienting flash-bang grenades.
Some of the cats leapt on them and pinned them to the ground
in choke holds almost instantly.
Some of them ran and hid.
T104 however was one of those trapped, and K992 was
guarding her.
Instead of running or leaping on the soldiers, she began
sticking out her tongue at them.
She walked around them quite calmly, first merely sticking out
her tongue, and then when they seemed not to respond, came up to
them despite the loud racket of the flashing weapon being fired
91

directly over her head and would systematically lick each one.
Sir! Janice suddenly exclaimed, Have those men stop
firing!
Why is that Ms. Rupert-sama? he asked.
Because she is following protocol sir! the researcher insisted,
We do not want to undermine their training! We want to reinforce it!
Good point Ms. Rupert-sama. he nodded to the radio man
who issued the order.
In seconds, the level of gunfire reduced markedly.
On top of this, the cats' behavior as a whole completely
changed.
Even though the cats could not even see one another in most
cases, either they were using sounds or scents or some form of
communication because suddenly every cat, young or old began racing
up and licking the soldiers.
The man with the flame thrower came out and began shooting
out a cloud of loud, dazzling flames, but being completely undaunted,
K992 danced all around the man until she outmaneuvered him and
licked his leg.
Immediately he shut off the flame thrower device and sat
down.
Soon the cats resumed their futile attempts to release their
trapped members and the commander ordered the men to release the
animals.
That's it for the day gentlemen, the commander radioed out,
92

we gave them as close to a 'live fire exercise' as they have ever had,
and I can see it taught them to adhere to protocol.
The cats in the traps were treated to hot water and a good rub
down and the whole group was given treats and Kii spent a lot of time
praising them.
I think we did well and learned a lot here today commander.
Janice declared.
I am glad we could be of help Ms. Rupert-sama. he smiled
back.
When we get ready for the next phase of this training, she
smiled, I'm sure you'll over do it again, then she signed a digital
notepad the commander held for her, but I'm also quite certain these
cats will once again pull through with top scores.
As am I Ms. Rupert-sama, the commander breathed in a deep
breath of satisfaction as he accepted back the notepad, as am I! then
he bowed, Good day to you, if you will excuse me. and he scurried
off to his staff car and the whole convoy pulled out, making its way
down the hill and out of sight.
That went better than expected, Janice remarked to Missy
and Kii.
WAAAAAAYYYY-upp! Kii began to shout, then caught
herself then said in a tiny little voice, Way better.
Both Missy and Janice laughed while hugging the smaller
researcher.
Come on ladies, Janice beamed, Lets have tea.
Ep 5, Chapter 5
93

K992 hovered over T104 protectively, seeming to fuss over the

other cub as a mother might fuss over a child.
She brought her food and placed it before the sore legged cub
and groomed her from head to tail and nuzzled her repeatedly.
The two of them seemed to be more than just playmates as
none of the other cats of any age seemed to be expressing anything
near this much affection.
T104 was not in the least bit bothered by the increase in
attention either.
The fawned over cub purred and gazed at the fussing cub in
adoration and seemed to be just soaking up all of the attention with
relish.
Specimens K992 and T104 express a closeness unlike any of
the others. Kii reported, They seem utterly inseparable and express
more affection than previously recorded for panteras as a whole.
K992 brings T104 food, bathes her and seems to generally
express an abnormal level of physical affection upon her and shows no
signs of heat or estrus, which makes her actions quite mysterious,
especially in the light of the fact that both specimens are females.
DT02 meandered over to the pair then turned and looked up at
the camera directly.
Perhaps I am mistaken, she began to correct as the male
stared at her, the male specimen DT02 just came over and is now
standing between them and the camera.
This specimen himself seems to express unusual behavior as
well, she remarked, preferring to occasionally socialize with the
94

adults, he some times visits them and then comes back to the cubs, but
during the recent exercise, he was the only one who made any effort to
enter the apartment.
We are still unsure if he was trying to reach safety or if he was
trying to call for help, she was typing when suddenly the big cub
moaned loudly at the camera.
She looked up and he lifted his paw and moaning at the
camera.
That's odd. the little researcher pondered, Its as if he is
trying to talk to the camera...or even odder, she thought, to ME!
As if in response, the big cub moaned again and rose up on his
hind legs to wave both paws at the camera.
I wonder if he or one of the others is in distress. she
pondered, I best go see. and she lay down her notepad.
Ep 5, Chapter 6
Upon approaching the apartment, while she was still in the
hallways, she peered through the small window of the double doors,
and to her surprise, although all of the other cats of all ages were right
where they last were, at least to the best as she could detect, the odd
detail was that DT02 was intently standing by the bars and staring
across the observation lobby to the door where she was peering in.
Instead of staring at the unattended camera, he was staring
directly at her.
As she stood there peering in on this, he rose up on his
haunches again and began pawing the air in her direction, as if he were
beckoning her to come in.

95

Entering the lobby, immediately all of the cubs rose up and

came to the bars but DT02 backed away and stood behind them,
lacking the frenzy the cubs tended to express upon her arrival.
You're different, Kii said quietly, aren't you DT02?
Immediately he moaned again loudly and raised his paw in a
beckoning motion.
Realizing that the animals were all under a lot of stress, just in
case this was a trap, Kii cautiously put on the armor before she entered
the apartment.
All of the cubs except DT02 were all playful and wanting to
play with her like usual.
He, on the other hand, stood there intently staring at her.
You want something specific, she said, don't you?
Suddenly he made somewhat of an almost barking like sound
and all of the cubs flinched and drew away from Kii, respectfully
regarding DT02.
Slowly he walked up to her and raised his nose as if to sniff her
mouth, a common activity among them.
When she leaned over to let him sniff, however, he sprang up
and clamped his strong muscular forelimbs around her neck and
pressed his forehead forcefully against her face.
Kii let out a chilling scream.
Ep 5, Chapter 7
When Kii came to, she lay on the ground uninjured.
96

DT02, however, had followed her to the ground when she

fainted and held her head to his without relenting.
She tried to push him away, but his predatory muscles were
tens if not hundreds of times her equal and she was held there at his
whim.
As she lay there writhing and screaming in mental, emotional
agony, thousands of images came crashing into her mind, flooded in
emotions of fear, confusion, anger, resentment, hope, something
possibly like love, and even some points of contentment.
There were images of wild places, of being caught in manmade traps, of being in trucks and cages, being whipped, shocked,
drugged by loud long sticks, sprayed with high pressure fire hoses,
nooses, truncheons, boots kicking her in her face, disgusting dead
animal carcasses intended for her to eat, unappetizing chunks of brown
she recognized as common dog food, she saw herself vomit, she
experienced fevers, cramping, bearing cubs, losing those cubs, more
beatings, being shipped down dusty roads, being inside jet aircraft,
being in a zoo stared at by hundreds of people, and finally familiar
images of the first cells, then the larger cells and apartment, and finally
the same day's events where they were being subject to painful traps,
frightening loud sounds from more long sticks, a human spraying fire,
and finally the humans using special tools to open the painful traps.
Every image led right up to the very moment they existed in
and then it ended with a simple pair of deep, golden eyes, timeless,
knowing, haunting yet patiently waiting. Those golden eyes were
waiting for her...to comprehend.
She could not know how long she lay there but finally she was
released.
She was shaken to the innermost core of her being.
97

She knew she had just witnessed so much horror and pain at
the hands of humans, her self included.
DT02 then gently nuzzled her face and licked her face while
purring.
She lay there sobbing for hours, drowning in all of the
emotions and horrible memories of all of the adult cats as well as some
of the cubs until she was too exhausted to even weep.
For a long time, she could not move, or even think.
At some point she fell into a dreamless sleep.
The big cats simply lay there all around her and waited for her
to recover.
Ep 5, Chapter 8
When Kii awoke, she heard Janice's voice asking, So how
long have you been sleeping with the cats?
Huh? she looked up from blurry eyes, Oh!
I was worried something was wrong when you were not in the
cafeteria with a report and hot coffee waiting, the director said as she
crouched down over Kii to help her up, so I came looking for you, or
parts of you.
I'm unharmed Janice-chan. the little researcher assured.
Have you been crying? Missy asked as she pulled the little
lady up to her feet.
I had a bad dream. Kii told a half truth, So I came here to
98

sleep with company. which was also a distortion of the situation.

I can get you a stuffed toy if you need. Janice offered in a
seemingly sincere voice.
Toys are for babies. Kii rejected that.
And fully grown wild cats are for adults? Missy asked jibing
the small researcher.
I didn't have you two... Kii intoned in a mournful moan.
So all we have to do is get this cloning device to work on its
own and you can sleep with us every night. Janice concluded.
Its not so simple as that! Kii cried.
Nothing is simple dear. Janice countered.
So did you finish your report? Missy asked as they left the
second cage lock, peeling off her armor and hanging it on its hanger.
I can have it in less than an hour if you let me work on it right
now. Kii declared with bravado.
Worry about that later dear, Janice hung up her armor, I
don't actually need every single report on my desk with my first
morning coffee anyhow. Just join us for breakfast first.
Yes Janice-chan! Kii beamed.
Ep 5, Chapter 9
Kii was careful to omit the details about the psychic
communication and hastily deleted much of the footage, looping a
limited few frames into a static image of her sleeping all night except
99

for a brief 'glitch' cut to justify there being a change in the activities.
For the most part, it might seem doctored, but still one could
not readily say exactly what was missing so long as it was not found
buried deep in some clandestine memory module she had no access to.
She wrote up a social behavior report with a bit less accuracy
than in the past, deliberately omitting the possible pairing and
partnership of the two cubs K992 and T104 as well as most of what
she and DT02 experienced that night.
Instead she mainly made it about how there did not seem
outwardly to be much in the way of stress or shock from the day's
activities, although, 'admittedly, no human could hope get inside their
minds and see just what they were feeling'.
She gave the pulse, BP, SpO2, adrenaline and cortisone levels
on the hour, which overall, did not belie much in the way of long term
trauma like it usually would in humans.
Since the animals were acting fairly calm immediately after the
event, and carrying through the night nothing had shown up either, it
seemed that the report was completely credible in its conclusions that
there was 'no apparent short term effect on the subjects' they had run
yesterday's simulation on.
Despite knowing this was a complete falsehood, she knew that
if she reported otherwise, questions would arise which would require
answers she did not wish to come to light.
Ep 5, Chapter 10
It was lunch time by the time Kii handed the doctored report in
and Missy was already done taking the animals' morning vitals, giving
their morning meal and collecting spoor samples.

100

She was washing up in the restroom when Kii came in and lay
down her note pad to wash her hands as well.
You look exhausted still. Missy said, leaning forward and
putting her forehead to Kii's to see if she had a fever, and you smell
like cat.
I spent the night sleeping in there. Kii smiled looking up, I
don't mind smelling like pussy.
Whoa! Missy stood up quickly, Sudden change in
terminology there!
Sorry. Kii put on a repentant face, I think the pheromones
put off by the animals may be having an effect on me.
That's possible I suppose, Missy pondered, or you could just
be coming into your period.
That may be too. Kii acknowledged, not wanting to reveal
that she had been secretly watching Missy in action the one time
previously, and doing so repeatedly.
Well lets hurry up, Missy said, running her hands under the
air dryer, lunch is waiting.
Episode 6
To Tell the Truth or to Lie: That is the Question
Janice reviewed the report and wrote in her impressions which
were notedly different from those of Kii.
She reported distinctively sensing distress from many animals,
namely, K992, T104, DT02, M111 and F005:
The subjects noted were either trapped, or were instrumental
101

in the efforts to free those trapped and they seemed to be distinctively

team players, one in particular, DT02 exhibiting both extreme
leadership qualities as well as a marked level of intelligence, far higher
than his previous test scores would have indicated.
In particular, DT02 made a point of both rallying the
untrapped cats to pull as a team on the chain tethers of the traps, and
when that failed, he made a point to come to the compound proper and
petition with great vehemence for aide from the humans inside.
It was overly evident to him that we inside the building should
be responsible for the welfare of all of the cats.
I am not sure to what extent and what he expected, but I can
say with confidence he was expecting some kind of relief provided he
could contact the staff.
It is my assessment that DT02 be placed in a leadership role,
should this batch of cubs be deployed in real time missions. His sense
of responsibility and his respect for authority in my eyes is
unquestionable.
She filed the report and sent it to the mission commander's
office via e-mail and went to lunch.
When she got there, Missy and Kii were already serving
themselves from the hotpot and the steamed rice.
Welcome Janice-chan! Kii beamed, rice scoop in hand.
I see you two have suffered no immediate damage from the
tests. she remarked smirking.
The two of them laughed.
Ep 6, Chapter 2
102

Kii read Janice's report and she knew that there were
discrepancies, however subtle, between her causal, unremarkable
report and Janice's strong, direct and impassioned report.
Granted, one could always chalk it up to differences in
opinions, or perhaps in variations in perceptions, or, perhaps,
prejudices which might shade one's presentation.
She was concerned, however, that in her opinion, Janice was
being too forthright and too open.
She worried that this would cause them all trouble in the long
run.
She knew enough about the military to know that when it
wanted something, anything, it would stop at nothing to get it.
And once they had what they were after, the rest was irrelevant
and expendable.
She had to somehow keep them from reaching their goals too
fast and she had to at the same time, make sure that the group could
reach their goals in time.
She began drawing up designs for reasonable body armor for
the cats.
They were to be seen as not merely useful but indispensable.
She contacted some people she knew at the university and had
them get a message to the mysterious old professor that she needed to
see him and right away.
With that done, she clocked out and went to bed where she lay
there tossing and turning thinking back on all of the horrid things
103

people had done to these poor beautiful beasts.

She stopped herself and realized these were not mere beasts,
they had minds and wills and emotions and needs just like humans did.
She decided to call them senri after a legendary half human,
half cat yokai of ancient legends.
She thought about them getting up and dancing and playing
music and wearing yukatas and eventually these thoughts relaxed her
enough she could finally go to sleep.
Ep 6, Chapter 3
Missy spent the afternoon filing samples, mixing nursing
formula and taking the 8 hour vitals.
She filed her usual drab report, looked in on the cloning
machine, took samples and readings from the machine, nothing that
they did not match, which was of course, quite the norm.
She met with the assistants who were coming in on the evening
shift and made sure they had everything they needed and then she
presented her final draft to Janice.
Janice and she went over everything quickly and then sent the
last report of the day to headquarters.
I think Kii is experiencing some kind of change Janice-chan,
Missy said when they pulled out of the garage, and its worrying me.
You think she is getting ill perhaps? Janice asked as she
drove down the mountain toward their home.
I don't know if its physical or mental to be honest. the
Futanari said, Something is off and its rather intangible.
104

Just keep an eye on her for now I suppose. Janice said, She
has always been a rather novel little character, the director pointed
out, perhaps she is growing up is all.
Maybe. Missy looked out the window at the trees and the
large stream beside the road, I hope its nothing and maybe its just my
imagination.
Indeed. Janice reached out and took Missy's hand, Lets
hope its nothing.
Ep 6, Chapter 4
Truth be known, this stress was having quite an effect on Kii,
but since it involved so much more than the director knew about, the
mere fact she had to conceal it made it even more stressful.
She decided to give names to all of the cats.
Treating you all as specimens is just wrong. she said softly as
she fed them their midnight meal, I'm going to give you all human
names because to me, you're as much people as I am.
She went through the apartment issuing names as she focused
on how each animal made her feel.
The very fact that now she could feel something from them
was new as well.
When DT02 had opened up to her the way he had, it was like
he had forcibly broken down some kind of barrier which had blocked
the mental communication between the cats and her own mind.
Now she could think in images and emotions to each and every
one of them.
105

They all had distinctive personalities and some of them showed

to like her company, others did not like humans at all, but would do
what it took to survive.
She did her best to spend much of the night with those who
disliked humans, not so much to change their minds, but to find out
just what each one went through, so that she could do her best to be
sure it never happened again.
She decided to name K992 'Leslie' and T104 'Samantha' and
called them 'the lovebirds'.
This got a humorous reaction from many of the other cats who
seemed not too deeply interested in closeness.
DT02 became 'Duwayne Thomas the Second' which he seemed
to enjoy deeply when she explained it was a royal personage in history.
He fancied himself a natural leader of the pack and although
some did not heartily agree with him, they always eventually ended up
following his lead.
She took notes and did her usual exams on schedule, but
between those times, she spent the evening just learning about each of
the captive 'people' in the apartment as if they were her equals, not her
specimens of scientific study.
Ep 6, Chapter 5
When Janice and Missy came in to work, the usual fragrance of
fresh brewed coffee was once again in the air, and there were sausages,
eggs and bowls of rice as well as bowls of diced fruit out on the table.
Good morning! she almost sang beaming brilliantly.

106

Good morning indeed! Janice replied in surprise, then she

turned to Missy and whispered, She seems okay at the moment.
Lets hope so. Missy whispered back and then said aloud,
Good morning little salamander!
Kii handed Janice her report and proceeded to eat without
looking to see Janice's reactions.
Since she could tap into the lines later and get the official
report the director would send to the mission commander, it was
pointless to ask her what she felt or try to read her expressions.
This, however, she felt was like a force slowly pulling them all
apart.
We need another vacation. Kii said in a grumpy, plaintive
tone.
I had to fight like hell for the last one. Janice said.
But we've all been under a LOT of stress here lately, Missy
looked over and eyed Janice with a hinting look, haven't we Janicechan?
Laying down the unfinished report and leaning back in her
chair, she yawned and looked over at Kii and said, I think you have a
point little one.
Yay! Kii kept her enthusiasm very controlled to keep the
director's stress level down.
Okay, Janice reached over and patted Kii's head, I'll see
what I can do. but then as she picked up the report and flopped it
against the table a couple of times lightly, But I can't make any
promises. then she flopped the papers just enough to make a soft 'pop'
107

for emphasis, and then said, YOU, young lady, staring again at Kii,
need your sleep. she slid the report to an empty part of the larger
than necessary cafeteria table and pulled her meal up close, I expect
you to get some as soon as you are done eating. then she began
stuffing her mouth with eggs and rice.
Yes Janice-chan. Kii rose with her dishes, stepped near and
leaned toward the director with her lips puckered.
Janice looked up in a sidelong glance with a mouth full and
said, Woh. wiped some rice from her mouth, turned and gave Kii a
peck on the lips, Wow gwow two sleef.
Kii merrily pranced to the kitchen sink, placed her plates in the
dishpan and pranced out the door.
Missy smiled, You just gotta love that kid.
Ep 6, Chapter 6
The mission commander was far from thrilled with giving out a
second vacation, but Janice reminded him that she was still officially
due a week's R&R and she would gladly trade it for one day for the
three of them on the same day.
That leaves us short handed then. Mr. Tanaki replied, I can't
have that.
I know a way around that sir. Janice offered, We can have
our single guy do a double night shift.
Will he be up to that? the commander's voice was doubtful.
I'm sure he will if I can schedule him some off time in
compensation.

108

And that won't leave you short handed some other place? the
commander asked.
I can do an evening shift to cover for him since he is only
doing half duty on his regular shit anyhow. Janice replied, And
Missy is willing to take another half shift to make sure I am not stuck
in a gap too.
I'll have to see about it. the commander said over the com, I
really hate leaving this in the hands of un or under qualified
personnel.
I assure you one hundred percent sir, Janice insisted, those
two men are more than fully qualified in their assigned duties. If they
were not, she pointed out, they would not have passed the strict
entrance exam you yourself had them take.
Oh well, the older man said, okay, then he said, but give
me two weeks to make sure that the schedule is not a surprise to
anybody.
Understood captain. she replied, Thank you and good bye.
and with that she closed the connection.
She leaned back in her hospital-bed-cum-director's-chair,
folded her hands behind her head and said to the ceiling with a soft
little smile, Well now...That went easier than I expected.
Ep 6, Chapter 7
The latest set of twelve cubs came out of the cloning machine
today, and they were seventeen percent larger than the last batch and
came out with their eyes open.
These ones were cultured from the best genes of five previous
batches based on size, speed, strength and intelligence.
109

They would be the best batch by far.

Right now, however, everybody was collectively drying them
and tending to their umbilical cords and the likes.
The cubs came out in equal numbers of males and females and
this was peculiar because their genetic signatures did not line up with
their sexes.
Hmmm... Janice was looking over the charts and examining
the cubs, This one is supposed to be a male. she examined a girl cub,
can you get some samples from the umbilical, the stem cells and a
tissue sample and run them all to be sure?
Sure thing. Missy replied, After all, she eyed Janice with a
knowing look while she smirked, can't have a whole bunch of little
ME's running round, CAN we?
Before she could comment, Kii, holding the cub in both hands
so Missy could take the required samples, cut her off calling out, That
wouldn't be so bad, would it?
Janice opted to not make her planned remark but said, No
sweetie, in a patronizing tone, there would be nothing at all wrong
with that.
Kii scooped the cub in one arm and thrust a little fist into the
air and cried Yippieee!
Ep 6, Chapter 8
The tests did indeed indicate that two of the 'female' cats were
in fact Futanari, meaning that they were in various manners different
from normal females, to varying extents, including that they had XY
chromosomes.
110

They don't look sterile, Missy did an invasive vaginoscopy

and a high resolution MRI on them, but until they come of age, we're
not going to know anything. she pondered aloud during the noon
lunch break.
What kind of offspring do Futanari have, if any? Janice
pondered, dipping a french roll into miso soup.
Beats me. Missy shrugged, What makes one animal a
Futanari and not the next? then lifting ramen on chopsticks to her
mouth, blowing on them and sucking them up.
So many mysteries. Kii pondered as they ate lunch, I
wonder if its a throwback from prehistoric times when there were
fewer, but larger predators on the face of the earth?
What would that have to do with it? Janice asked, partially
knowing the reasoning behind this in some animal species.
Well when you are a predator and you must compete for food,
you probably avoid other predators and therefore, if you could, you
would reproduce without the assistance of a competitor.
That would be fine except for one glaring flaw in this logic:
Missy pointed with her chopsticks, The whole act of reproduction is
counter intuitive to the whole concept of survival wherein one creates
their own competition, therefore imposing limits on their own
resources, and therefore reducing their own chances of survival.
Yeah. Janice said, Just like how you said you would not
have a child as a single, unemployed mother, why would a predator
have the needless additional load on their resources as feeding copies
of her self who some day would merely take over and kick her out of
the prime feeding grounds when she was too old to fight with them?

111

And what about when she kills them herself, Missy pointed
out, in an effort to reduce the competition, this is only a compounding
of the waste of resources because she can never hope to regain from
their death, even if she consumes them for food, the amount of
resources she expended producing and raising them in the first place.
You make parenting sound awful. Kii moped, wishing she
had never said anything.
I merely pointed out how impractical this whole theory of
evolution is, is all. Missy shrugged and scooped up more ramen.
Then why do they teach it like fact in the schools? Kii softly
whined.
Political agenda hon, Janice replied, dabbing the bottom of
her bowl with the last of the French roll, get rid of divinity, get rid of
morality, get rid of personal responsibility.
So its just a big ruse to lead to anarchy? Kii asked.
In a way, yes. Janice replied, Its no big secret that Charles
Darwin was a pedophile and hated religions which told him he was
sinning after all.
Oh. Kii murmured, Sounds creepy.
Yeah. Missy said as she scooped up some rice onto her
chopsticks, And me personally, she smiled, I kinda think the idea of
there being gods is pretty NEAT!
"Sure wish they would talk to me and tell me what to do then."
Janice grumbled.
Kii's eyes got wide, "I wonder if maybe they already did...!"

112

Ep 6, Chapter 9
Kii got the answer to her question back, and it simply read
Yes.
Well that was not the answer I had hoped for. Kii glumly
looked at the e-mail.
Suddenly another e-mail came saying, You are asking for the
easy way out of your quandary dear child.
Well of COURSE I am! she grumbled to the hand held
device, If I wanted the HARD way, I would just mess around and
experiment until I destroyed everything or got lucky and hit on the
right answer by sheer chance!
Another message popped up saying, There's no need to be
melodramatic about this.
Easy for YOU to say, Kii grumbled, its not like everything
and everybody you know and love are on the line in this! she rolled
her eyes and blew at her bangs, half expecting the professor to
continue to send little broken up bits and pieces of his reply, which she
was used to by now.
The next answer, however, was totally unlike him and
completely out of the scope of ordinary.
Actually it is. the message came back.
Huh? she frowned, You can't be answering things I never
sent you! she went to reading back in case she had said something
that the answer could relate to.
But you did say it, did you not? came back the text message.

113

Well yes I did... she admitted.

Then its not a 'thing you never sent me'. the message sprang
up.
But I DIDN'T! Kii protested to the hand held device.
Oh yes you DID! the text came back.
Wait! she cried, Did you somehow hack the audio on my
phone!?
No child, he texted back instantly, I am simply listening to
you. and suddenly Duwayne moaned at her and raised his paw.
She jumped from her seat and gasped, dropping the phone.
The phone did not break, thankfully.
The message was unmistakably live and in real time this time,
You should not drop your phone little one, it could break.
Ep 6, Chapter 10
Where ARE you professor? Kii asked out into the open air
while holding the cell phone in her hands.
Technically, I'm everywhere. came the reply.
Can you explain that more specifically? the confused girl
asked.
I'm right beside you. suddenly came an old man's voice
making her scream and throw the poor cell phone.
Suddenly, right in the room with her was a wizened old man
114

with a long white beard, a fine silk suit, a top hat and an unavoidable
tumor on one ear.
She spun and sure enough, the old man was right there in the
room with her and he let fly with the jolliest of merry laughs.
That's not funny! she wailed.
OH BUT IT IS! he cried out with laughter, I SO LOVE
doing that!
You're MEAN! she cried weakly.
A human can not judge what is mean and cruel little one, he
suddenly stopped laughing but went into a philosophical sounding
tone, when you become a god, he nodded knowingly, then you can
come tell me about such things as right and wrong, mean and kind.
What are you TALKING about? she asked, eyes growing
wide, You-you-you me-me-mean y-y-you're a GOD?
Haruyuuki-nekogami at your service! the otherwise
unimposing elderly man bowed, then suddenly with a flash of light,
transformed into a giant black cat with unnaturally green eyes which
telepathically said, Also known as Cait Sith.
Kii dropped to her knees in fear, reverence and adoration of the
gargantuan cat god which scarcely fit in the high ceilinged roof, Prpr-professor...Caito!
Episode 7
What if God Told Me to?
Can I tell the others? Kii asked.
Not yet little one, the professor replied, having reverted to
115

his human guise, they are in positions most precarious right now, and
their honor would be called upon and I do not wish to make them lie to
protect themselves.
What about me? Kii asked suddenly feeling guilty.
You have not lied, the professor chuckled, you merely kept
dangerous information from getting out!
What about their video surveillance of this place and you
being here? she asked.
They can not see me, he chuckled, I did not make myself
visible to them.
So am I having this conversation alone in an empty room?
she asked, feeling embarrassed and self conscious.
They will not see you little one. the cat god reassured her, I
have already chosen where to divert what they perceive and what to
put in its place.
The same way you texted me? she asked.
The same way little one. the professor smiled softly,
Enough about me now. he shrugged his shoulders one quick shrug
while looking around the room with a most playfully bemused look
that made him look almost mad, Lets talk about the future of these
little ones here. and he tapped the cloning machine which already had
twelve more copies growing in it since this afternoon's cleaning.
What did you want to know sir? she asked compliantly.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! he said in a rather soft
tone, leaving her confused, Its what I want YOU to know!

116

Oh. she took her correction instantly without hesitation,

And what is that?
As you may, he looked around as if checking to see if
anybody else was listening in, or may not know, he wiped his lips
with the back of his index finger as if smoothing his long mustache,
all living things have some kind of souls in them from their parents.
I did not know that professor sir. she replied with a wilted
look, Please forgive my ignorance, I grew -
Yes little one, he patted her bowed head, I watched you
grow up and took good care of you so you could grow up to be the
good girl that you are.
Why me? she asked.
Because of your soul little one. he replied, Your soul is very
precious to me.
Are you going to take it back? she asked growing frightened.
Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho! he laughed aloud, HARDLY little one!
patting her head again, I just wanted you to know that I used a tiny
spark of yours, Missy's and Janice's souls to make all of these little
cubs here have a soul!
You DID?! her eyes grew very wide, OUR souls went into
those little kitteny cubby babies there?
Yes indeed little one! he smiled, turning to the cloning
chamber and as if for emphasis, but reaching out to Kii's forehead with
one index finger, a tiny trail of what looked like the faintest stream of
super fine silver sparkling powder left Kii's forehead and floated
through the air, Since they had neither father nor mother, they had no
place, no 'spark' so to speak, from which to fashion a soul, and once
117

the stream of fine sparkled came to the clear observation port, zipped
through it with a flash, then right into a little embryo where it glowed
for a few seconds, I have chosen to give each of them some of your
own.
Kii's eyes were wide again only with tears and she clasped her
hands while saying, Th-th-that is s-s-s-so beautiful-l-l-l-l! her tiny
voice quavering.
I had to pick beautiful souls to both give them life, the
professor smiled, and to raise them up to become beautiful people.
I'm so unworthy! Kii sobbed.
You'll do fine little one, he patted her head, you'll do just
fine. then he said, Well look at the time!
Kii looked up, her reverie broken, Huh? What?
I really MUST be going now little one, he patted her head
one more time before he began to grow translucent as she reached up
only to reach through his arm, don't worry little one, he smiled, I'm
never far away, he was now the merest pale outline, we'll talk again
soon. and he was gone.
Ep 7, Chapter 2
Kii could not sleep now.
She was unable to stop thinking about all of the amazing,
fantastic, unbelievable things she had just seen and heard.
The old professor is a cat god! she thought to herself, And
all the little cute cuddly cubbies have OUR SOULS in them!
We can't just send them all off to war like this! she realized,
118

They're NOT mindless, soulless animals!

What am I going to DO? she asked herself as she tossed and
turned.
Before she was aware of it, it was already morning and she
heard the armored garage door rising up to let Janice and Missy in, so
she leapt up, slipped into her slippers and dashed off to the kitchen.
Ep 7, Chapter 3
Kii could not help but look distant despite her best efforts and
Missy noticed right away.
Something's on your mind little one. she declared.
Oh... the smallest researcher began.
I'm not asking, Missy cut her off, I'm just making note of
it.
Oh. Kii replied, Okay.
You're not gong to tell us about it? Janice asked.
Nope. Kii swished hot coffee around in her mouth as if it
were mouthwash before she swallowed it.
Are the new cubs alright? Janice asked.
So far they seem to be. Kii replied, I have not seen a single
indicator that they are less than optimally healthy for new...'borns' I
suppose.
Is the cloning device bothering you? Missy asked, thinking
perhaps the fact they raised these new super-cats at artificially
119

accelerated speeds and history showed that clones in general usually

had a very high failure rate.
Well, Kii pondered how much to admit to, that, yeah. she
swigged more coffee and did the same mouthwash maneuver with it
while thinking how or what else to say, For the most part.
Something else is bothering you? Janice asked.
I just don't like the idea of HUMANS being cloned I
suppose. she admitted, even though it was a side product of her true
concerns, And what if these clones had no souls?
SOULS? Missy's eyes got wide, Since WHEN did 'Little
Miss Darwinism' here start even THINKING about such MYTHICAL
superstitions as 'SOULS'!?
Now calm down, Janice pleaded, her left hand making a
gentle pressing motion while her right hand pressed against her temple
where a stress headache was already beginning just from the loud tone
of the question, there's no reason to read her the riot act or make this
an interrogation just because she has matured enough to think about
the spirit realm for a change.
Yeah, Missy reached over and patted Kii's head, sorry about
that little one. then she sipped her own coffee.
Its alright, Kii smiled, I was pretty soaked into this whole
humanism and evolutionary junk, mostly in an effort to please my
teachers, and well, she did the coffee mouthwash thing again, I
guess I kinda let myself go and started to believe it myself.
Adolph Hitler once said, 'If you want people to believe a lie,
you don't tell them a little lie, you tell them a GREAT BIG lie. Missy
half exclaimed, half grumbled before poking a sausage with her
chopsticks to get it up off the plate.
120

Yeah, Kii agreed glumly, seems that now there are these
famous clay tablets they found over near Aman, Jordan now that show
some kind of proof that humans knew all kinds of scientific stuff like
five and six thousand years ago and that some god or another showed
them how the earth rotated around the sun and stuff we think is all new
technology like microscopes, batteries, running water in pipes,
flushing toilets... she trailed off as if going into a dream state staring
off into the heavens.
You put flushing toilets up with microscopes and astronomy?
Janice softly guffawed one gust of breath.
Why sure! Missy said, Nothing in the world controls
diseases and general nastiness more than a well designed and
functional sanitation system! she pointed out with her index finger off
her coffee mug, More communicable diseases have been controlled
simply by proper hygiene and sanitation than all the vaccinations in
history.
Good point. Janice accepted.
Besides, Kii pointed out, when you've been where I've been,
its not merely 'technology', she breathed looking reverently, its a
downright MIRACLE!
Ep 7, Chapter 4
Missy began her day doing her routine checks and
measurements, talking samples and passing out breakfast for the cats.
T104 was now completely well and in fine spirits, and she
romped around, almost making K992 look like an old woman.
She would circle K992 and sniff her, put her back end toward
her and wrap her tail around K992's neck.
121

They licked and nuzzled each others faces and necks, but it
seemed that they were both feeling frustrated.
An adult male began to seem interested in T104 due to her
actions and her scent which the pheromone sniffer was declaring was
spiking.
Janice, Missy called from the observation room, we have a
specimen in heat.
Okay, Janice replied over the intercom, I'm on my way
down now.
As Missy was suiting up with armor and readying the tranq
gun, however, she was too late to stop what happened next.
As the older male came up and began circling the pair of
females, trying to get in behind 'Samantha', 'Leslie suddenly bolted
forward, catching him by the back of his neck and driving him to the
ground with a vicious snarl.
SHIT! Missy looked out to see the older male down and
'Leslie' on top of him with a killer grip.
The big male wailed only briefly before there was a crunching
pop.
It was already over.
LESIE NOOO!!! Kii came rushing into the apartment
awakened by the feral scream.
The female cat looked up with murder in her eyes, still
clamping onto the dead cat's neck, growling like a truly wild animal.

122

By this time, almost all of the other cats were up against the
bars, adults and cubs, bunched together cowering from 'Leslie.'
Duwayne stood between her and the others, and Samantha
stood on the other side of Leslie with a peculiar look they could not
make out.
Duwayne moaned softly at Leslie and slowly held his paw up,
claws retracted.
Leslie simply growled back at him.
There was the cough of the tranq gun.
Leslie bolted, fangs still caught in the dead cat's neck but the
highly advanced, super fast acting drug made her legs buckle in
seconds and she lay there glassy eyed moaning in rage filled protest.
Wearing armor, Janice took up the tranq gun while Kii and
Missy dealt with the two cats in question.
Missy and Kii each rolled in gurneys, then they worked as a
team to first lift Leslie and strap her to the gurney while Samantha
moaned and made soft growling sounds, then to lift the dead male and
check in case he might merely be stunned.
With the confirmation that his heart and breathing had already
stopped, they rushed him into an emergency surgical chamber and
began examining his neck where they found his neck had been broken
in two places and the spinal cord was smashed beyond recovery.
We lost this one. Janice sighed, I'll do the paperwork, you
two isolate K992 and stabilize her for observation.
What about Samantha? Kii asked.

123

Who? Janice turned and asked.

I mean yes ma'am Janice-chan! Kii saluted and hurried to
move on with K992 into an isolation room.
Miss, Janice looked over at the tall researcher, who is
'Samantha'?
The Futanari looked up from the examination, shrugged and
replied, Beats me.
Ep 7, Chapter 5
Samantha moaned weakly for hours.
She refused her next meal and went into a far corner and curled
up, dolefully eyeing every other cat in the apartment.
Missy finished a complete autopsy on the dead cat and
processed her report and then had the animal's remains bagged and
boxed to be sent where they would be cremated.
K992 was subjected to an MRI and CT scan to check for brain
tumors, lesions, aneurysms, anything which might indicate why this
sudden and abnormal behavior.
Her hormone levels were checked and they did a scan for
rabies and several other potential diseases which may have somehow
come in latent on the adults and only then expressed themselves on the
cub who had not been properly immunized by a mother's milk as
would happen in nature.
All of the tests came back negative and she appeared
completely clean.
As she lay there in the isolation room, weakly moaning but
124

unable to move her skeletal muscles, she seemed quite a pitiable

character, but knowing she had, seemingly without provocation killed
an adult male who was acting simply on instinct toward another
female, put her condition under suspicion and therefore she had to be
monitored.
Janice sat in the cell with armor on and gently stroked the cat,
trying to let it know she was not angry with it or anything.
I'm not mad at you for what you did back there K992, she
actually said out loud, but it made no sense and I have to find out why
suddenly you have become a killer.
The big cat's moaning suddenly stopped being long, mournful
tones and became short, hurried grunts, almost as if she were
experiencing trouble breathing as she lay there.
Missy I think we have respiratory arrest here! she called over
the intercom, but that fast, the big cat stopped even this and went to
simply breathing slowly.
Missy came with the crash cart with its forced respirator and
oxygen, but as they watched, the cat simply lay there breathing.
What were the symptoms? Missy asked.
First she was moaning, Janice described, but then she
seemed to break out into some hurried, strained grunting or panting
which seemed to be like the labored breathing of anaphylaxis, but then
she simply went to breathing calmly and quietly.
As if on cue, the big cat began the strange breathing and
grunting pattern again, but only for a few times then moaned some,
then grunted, then went quiet for a few breaths, then seemed to almost
make the sound of humming.

125

Well that's different! Missy leaned toward the big cat, gently
palpitating its neck, throat, chest and abdomen, I've never seen or
head of a cat acting like this before.
Me neither. Janice agreed, then she leaned he head down to
the neck of the animal, I wonder if she has fluid building up in he-
she froze and began to tremble.
Janice? Missy suddenly became alarmed, Janice? then she
hit the com, Kii come in here STAT!
Ep 7, Chapter 6
I wonder if she has fluid building up in he- was the last thing
Janice remembered clearly, it became a bit hazy after that.
Images, tens of thousands of them, suddenly came crashing
into her mind, threatening to sweep her away into sheer madness!
Images of the wild jungle, of days and nights, of hunting and
leaping, of swimming in the great water, of the sensations of killing, of
sleeping, eating and marking one's territory, and then, there was the
images of humans, of cages, of violence and of abuse, of pain and fear,
humiliation, rage, indignity, sickness, there was the feelings of hatred
and of self pity, and of resentment, confusion, then there was the
sensations of being in a room, a little room with pink walls, a room
with dolls and with a bed, more humans, but with friendly faces, with
lovely food and with music and times and events and highways and
streets and houses and buildings and papers and bells and uniforms
and lectures and graduations and offices and traffic
and...HERSELF???
Somehow...as she floated there...in this place without
places...she was experiencing seeing herself!
She saw herself from the eyes of another person!
126

This person she could not clearly see, they were somehow
ethereal, but it had been this same person all along.
This person was...OH NO!
In her mind she gasped in shock and horror.
She was seeing the entire life of a person!
But it was not RIGHT!
Something was terribly off about this!
She HAD to wake up!
She HAD to make this STOP!
This was not RIGHT!
It COULDN'T be!
Suddenly she was yanked away from the cat, her eyes wide,
covered in sweat, gasping for breath, looking around the room as if in
stark terror.
Suddenly she locked eyes with Missy and shrieked, YOU!!!
Ep 7, Chapter 7
Janice-Janice-Janice baby what's wrong? Missy took hold of
the hysterical research director and pulled her in close.
Janice had began sobbing I'm sorry. over and over again into
the thick soft armor Missy wore.

127

Kii knew at once what had happened.

She did not know what to say, however, because this was not
supposed to happen, according to the professor.
She did not know what to say, so she decided to play dumb and
act confused at the moment.
She leaned over and laid her head on the cat, honestly hoping
she would get some images, but all she got was the image of the
apartment and Samantha playing all around her face, from the point of
view of Leslie.
As she lay there, it seemed that what she was getting was not
that bad, so if it was what frightened Janice-chan, she was worried that
her future spouse might not be able to handle direct contact with these
beautiful life forms.
Moments after she mused this idea, however, she suddenly got
the first hand view of Leslie killing the older male 'Druch'.
Druch? she thought to herself almost as if it were a
completely detached sentiment while at the same time she recoiled in
horror at the overwhelming cascade of emotions, not only of Leslie
who was killing, but to her horror, of Druch who was dying in a
sudden stabbing agony.
The sensations of the male only lasted for the moments from
when she felt the biting pressure and hairs in the mouth of Leslie until
consciousness slipped from the male's being.
She felt something akin to guilt, pleasure, grief, shock, horror,
regret, loneliness and then peace as the emotional input of both cats
blended together almost seamlessly.
She had just witnessed killing, and witnessed death, all in the
128

same place and in the same instant.

She got up without a word, stroked Janice's hair, stepped
outside and in three steps collapsed to the floor vomiting.
Ep 7, Chapter 8
It did not take Missy long to realize that neither woman was in
any shape to continue working.
She led the blubbering Janice out past the heaving Kii making
a note to come back and help her once she was able.
She took the director to her office chair/hospital bed.
Janice was still mooing softly and Missy said, Rest now my
love, you've apparently experienced more than your stress tolerances
can deal with. and she drew up a dosage of .05 cc sodium pentathol
and .1cc meperidine hydrochloride in a hypoject and while Janice was
looking away, gently administered it to her carotid artery.
In twenty seconds, the director was calm and placid, but deeply
troubled to the point of being reflective.
I have to tend to Kii-chan now Janice-chan. Missy smiled
and left the room with a second dosage of the mild sedative analgesic.
Ep 7, Chapter 9
Kii proved to be fit for work by the time she awoke from a
rather peaceful slumber.
She said she did not remember anything, but Missy was not
buying this.

129

At the same time, however, Janice seemed unwilling to talk

about it altogether.
Both women were avoiding her direct questions but not in such
a manner as to seem innocent of knowing something out of the normal
parameters of what is known as 'reality'.
I'd do what those two did and see for myself, the Futanari
thought to herself, but I would hate to find myself suddenly
debilitated by it as well.
She did a double shift, asking that Robert take the night shift
for Kii.
Janice slept in her office until the shift was over and Robert
had come and clocked in.
We had an incident today, Missy said to Mr. Inoue in the
cafeteria, we are short one adult male and one cub is in sedated
isolation for the indefinite future.
The schedule tonight will, unfortunately, require far more
observation and reporting than usual due to this. she pointed out the
charts where everything was and what to look for.
The whole group of them are on edge, she detailed, so do
not go into the cage without good cause to, and never enter without the
tranq gun until further notice.
Yes Ms Minaggio-san. the man nodded with a grave
expression on his usually smiling face.
Kii may come and go, Missy directed the man, but be sure
to just keep an eye on her and make sure the basics as well as the
extendeds I listed are all done.

130

Yes Ms Minaggio-san. he nodded again, taking up the digital

note pad and entering his thumb scan to identify that he had been
briefed and understood.
Ms Rupert and I will be going now, Missy said as she headed
for the front of the building, I may come in without her in the
morning.
Drive safely Ms. Minaggio-san. the man bowed and waved,
then turned, Excuse me then please. and he headed for the
observation room.
Missy rose feeling suddenly quite tired and went to the
director's office where Janice appeared to have just awoke, and smiled,
Ready to go home darling?
Suddenly, Janice rubbed her eyes, I feel ready to just walk
away from everything and go crawl in a cave somewhere.
Trust me, Missy said, not knowing what Janice had seen,
you really DON'T want that.
Ep 7, Chapter 10
When Janice got home, she could not sleep.
I think I need more of that happy juice you shot me up with.
she murmured to Missy who was also awake pondering everything that
had happened that day.
Its bad for you darling. Missy said in a sigh, I can't have
you dependent on that stuff to sleep or you'll get worse than you
already are.
Is it true? Janice suddenly asked.

131

Of course its true. Missy said with a frown, Now go to

sleep.
I mean, Janice licked her lips, feeling as if she would never
get any rest for the rest of her very very painfully foreshortened life if
she did not ask right here and now, is it really such a bad thing, she
almost changed her mind as a wave of fear to the point of vertigo
threatened to overtake her mind, living in a cave and all.
Oh I wouldn't know really, Missy lied fluidly, as she had
been lying about her childhood for twenty years now, why do you
ask?
Thinking perhaps just maybe Missy had totally forgotten, or
more specifically, blocked the memories from her mind, she replied,
Oh I dunno, doing a poor job of lying, I saw this one show where
they converted a huge cavern in the states into a luxury home, she did
see such a show even though it had nothing to do with the question, I
just wondered what your take on it was.
If it was a luxury home, Missy shrugged honestly, that
would be fine with me... then, trying to diffuse the situation she
moved closer, just as long as you were there with me. and she kissed
Janice on her lips.
Janice kissed her back but as soon as the kiss was over, she felt
suspicious and this only made the situation worse.
Well I wonder what it's like swimming in a big open lake on a
very hot day in the jungle would feel like. Janice rolled onto her back,
making it harder to just shut her up with a kiss.
That, Missy replied, I suppose would depend on if you
minded leeches, alligators, crocodiles and snakes in the water.
I wouldn't like that one little bit! Janice cringed, the
132

memories showed nothing of these horrifying things! She slipped up

and said, Strange though, I didn't notice any alligator-up.
She froze, lips shut tightly, looking sideways toward the far
wall in the dim, diffuse light of the city street lamps through the thick
curtains and hoped that she could not be seen blushing.
She had really slipped up there!
Alligatup? Missy asked, Just where and when would you
have seen any 'alligatups'?
In my head I suppose. Janice chuckled, Its nothing, she
purred, I think the drugs you gave me are having a second go at my
mind and making me a little loopy perhaps.
That may be. Missy replied in a seemingly sincere voice
which totally hid her sarcasm, Perhaps, however, she suggested,
you are having a stress related hallucination because of the violent
events you witnessed earlier today.
You know, Janice said in a very thoughtful tone, you very
well might be right. then she turned back toward the Futanari and
said, Good night. and took the initiative to kiss Missy this time.
Good night Janice-chan. Missy smiled and put her left arm
over the English woman.
Episode 8
Reasoning Out That Which You Can't Explain
All three women came to a meeting with the Mission
Commander, the CEO who ran the operation and some top brass who
were over the whole thing.
What we have here, gentlemen, Janice said, showing high
133

speed footage of the actual moments of the lunge and the kill, which,
unlike the blur it was in normal time, showed the blinking in slow
motion, the ever so subtle changes in expression on the faces of the
cats, the sudden, almost demonic expression of K992 just moments
before she lunged, the almost playful, ducking motion of the male cat
TM09 as if it were not even conceivable that K992 were capable, let
alone motivated to strike, let alone kill.
The split seconds, when slowed down made it gruesomely clear
that K992 had not in the least bit acted like a normal cat from the wild.
This cat had not given warnings, had not threatened, bluffed,
sprayed, pushed or anything.
She went in less than ninety one milliseconds from seemingly
blissful and content with the affections of T104 to killer according to
the time stamp on the footage.
She was smaller than the male, and yet she was as strong, at
least, as a male lion or Bengal tiger.
She would not reach maturity even at their accelerated growth
rate for another six months.
Still her speed and strength were not merely overwhelming,
they were on a whole other level than the adult cat.
The expression on the male cat's face was in its own self
enough to cause one of the higher level officers to shift in his seat and
look away in obvious discomfort.
The male had no warning and went from playful to agonized
shock to death with a look of wild eyed terror in its eyes before you
saw the jerking shift of the neck where the female's jaws sheared the
meat and cartilage, mangled the nerves, leaving blood flying around in
the air in surreal spinning ovoid jewels.
134

The tremors of death that followed as the body was completely

disconnected from the brain caused another officer to suddenly get up
coughing and leave the room at a run.
As the eyes of the male cat went glassy, it was clear that
inadequate blood was reaching its brain to sustain consciousness.
The whole room full of highly trained military men were on
edge.
All this time, the highly focused, deliberately intent, almost
demonic look in the eyes of the female were not even animal, they
were INTELLIGENCE!
Ep 8, Chapter 2
It was a cold, rainy day when the animal K992 was securely
strapped and muzzled and taken to a laboratory for further
examination.
Kii protested heavily that the animal should not be taken from
the safety of this facility, but her pleas were ignored.
Finally she insisted that she go along with the animal, but they
said she would interfere with their work and she needed to keep the
cloning device running instead.
She risked her job by waiting until they were busy with the
paperwork and she slipped up under the truck with a hammock like
sling and tied herself to the truck.
When they rolled out, she rode beneath the truck for eight
kilometers before a passing police car spotted her, turned around and
flagged the convoy down.

135

The mission commander stepped out of his staff car and

walked back to where the little girl was being held down on the rainy
wet pavement by four soldiers with rifles pointed at the back of her
head.
This is no way to treat a devoted child! the commander
barked, Put those guns away and get her up off the ground!
They followed orders and she was lifted up as if she were a
doll by one arm.
Wincing in pain, she looked truly pathetic in the rain with dirt
on her face and her lab coat.
Its a wonder you don't die of hypothermia pulling a stunt like
that. he shook his head, Let her ride with the cat, he said, she's too
wet for my staff car.
With that, she did make it to the lab along with Leslie, holding
the cat closely and sobbing over the heavily sedated, strapped and
muzzled animal the whole way.
Ep 8, Chapter 3
Kii was allowed to watch from the far side of the glass as they
took the animal and laid it on a specialized bench table which allowed
its legs to dangle below.
They began by shaving places on its neck and inserting needles
and clipping some metallic clips directly to the beast's skin.
They then took a razor and shaved the animal's head.
She cringed fretfully as she watched the animal's scalp being
cut back with a scalpel, then a specialized saw was used to cut the
cranial bone open.
136

They then inserted super fine probes with specialized tips on

them to assess various readings which showed up on a screen which
she could not see clearly.
Occasionally as they worked, the body would twitch and Kii
would flinch, fearing that the cat would waken in pain and terror and
truly hurt its self.
There was some pointing and then they literally used
something much like a stainless steel spoon, lifted the brain out of its
cradle, and there below was a dark red blob.
While one nurse patiently held the spoon, the chief surgeon
first photographed, then carefully excised the red blob which was an
aneurysm which had been applying pressure to her medulla oblongata,
causing elevated levels of serotonin and drosophila.
The surgeon made notes of this after he reconnected the two
ends of the blood vessel with a bridge of synthetic vein.
Finally after two long, excruciating hours, the surgeons
carefully slipped a very fine layer of mesh over the brain, inserted
some greenish gray paste around the edges of the cut, lay a very fine
clear vinyl tube across the edge of the scalp and across the mesh over
the brain, and finally they gently replaced the cranial cap while
watching the tube.
The moment the fine intercranial fluid began to appear in the
tube, they withdrew the tube and gently wiped the excess paste from
the skull bones.
Once they had the excess paste removed, they used a special
UV light to cause the paste to polymerize into a semi-rigid material
which would allow expansion should the brain swell, yet would at the
same time, keep the cranial bone in place while it healed.
137

After the leading surgeon was satisfied with this, he had the
scalp gingerly sewn back in place and the nurses put skin-tape over
this, and then proceeded to wrap her skull with a special sectional prefabricated cast which would allow them to form it without applying
any pressure to her brain cavity.
By the time they were done, the big cat was quite odd looking,
wearing what looked about like a football helmet.
Kii was allowed to sit with the big cat in a recovery cell
afterward.
They fixed you Leslie, she lay her head on the unconscious
cat, isn't that wonderful?
As would be expected, the unconscious animal made no reply.
She talks to them all the time, the mission commander
remarked to the chief surgeon as they looked in via remote camera, I
think it comes with genius, he sighed and adjusted the waistband on
his trousers, but I think all three of these ladies are a bit touched.
Ep 8, Chapter 4
The big cat came home literally in a sling.
To avoid it being bumped around by rough traffic, they kept
K992 fully sedated and suspended by elastic bands to that no violent
bumps in the road or any sudden stops would cause her skull joint to
be disturbed.
Kii guided the team back into the holding cells even though
they made it there before all on their own, being very protective of the
unconscious animal.

138

They carefully lifted the sleeping cat from the cradle gurney
onto the large soft mat, saluted the researcher and backed out with the
gurney.
Kii remained with the cat, stroking it and talking to it softly,
assuring it everything would be okay.
Missy and Janice met with the head surgeon who had decided
to come along and meet the other 'touched' researchers.
He was duly impressed with Missy's outlandish outfit, but quite
underwhelmed by Janice's drab, ultra conservative appearance.
Greetings Ms. Rupert-sama, the man introduced himself, I
am Captain Yunagi, chief veterinary surgeon for the fourth division of
the Kaitoe section of the JDF ground forces regimen.
An honor to meet you, Captain Yunagi-san. the director
bowed.
I see you have quite an impressive program going on here. he
looked around, I had never imagined that the military would delve
into intelligent cats as weapons, but it looks like they finally have.
I just hope we can produce the results they desire, Janice
remarked, without producing something they are not happy with.
It looked for a moment like you had already. the surgeon
remarked, Thankfully it was something treatable.
Yes. Janice nodded, Thankfully so.
Indeed, thank you. Missy added.
Well here are the needed papers on everything and the digital
files, he opened up his attache case on the corner of her desk, She
139

will need to remain sedated for at least seventy two more hours, the
surgeon had instructed, this is the bare minimum time necessary for
the proteinaise epoxy to fully cure. he handed Janice some charts, a
digital report and had her sign a release, Be sure she is not in any way
aroused, stimulated or disturbed for two weeks because the artificial
vein material is very delicate and even at its best only poorly bridges
the real veins while they heal. Any elevated excitement or rough
housing should be avoided by any means necessary.
Yes Captain Yunagi-san. Janice smiled and bowed, We shall
be sure to keep her as calm and placid as a kitten.
Good Ms. Rupert-sama, he smiled, I hate to have my
handiwork messed up. then he bowed, If you will excuse me then.
and he, along with the mission commander turned and left her office.
I need to avoid excitement my self. she sighed as she handed
the paperwork to Missy, I think I need to lay down a while.
Ep 8, Chapter 5
Even unconscious, Leslie's return was detected by all.
There was a shuffling and wariness amongst the big cats, both
adult and cub.
Missy was recording this as soon as the surgeon took his leave,
and sure enough, even though she was carried in on a gurney
unconscious and wheeled into the holding cell, the only animal who
seemed to be happier for it was Samantha.
Duwayne was the least agitated of those who were not taking it
favorably, but his was more like a fatherly concern than fear and
trepidation.
You're worried she's really messed up, huh Duwayne? Kii
140

stroked the big cat's muzzle.

He half purred, half rumbled.
I don't blame you honey, she kissed the big cat's nose, but
they found out it was something inside that was the problem and they
fixed it.
As she was in contact with the animal, she did her best to
convey images of the surgery to him.
He shuddered as he observed the human images of surgery,
especially where they were cutting open the other cat's skull with a
saw, the whining and the metal device creeping slowly through the
bone seemed to really unnerve the cat.
When it was over, he went animal to animal sharing the
information except with Samantha, knowing it would really mess with
her badly, and the whole of them, although clearly distressed by the
images of the surgery, were relieved to know that Leslie was going to
be better now.
All he told Samantha was that her mate was resting and would
be back once she was well.
She remained unmoved and covered her head with her paws.
He huffed at her a couple of times but she softly moaned and
did not move.
Finally he turned away and went back over by the adults.
Kii took notes of everything and even snapped a few
holographic stills at key moments in the discourse, but she deliberately
did not interfere because she did not want to in any manner interfere
with the moods, mentalities or interactions of the animals any more
141

than she already had.

When it was feeding time, however, Duwayne took food to
Samantha and rumbled something.
She looked up and rumbled something back and then slowly
proceeded to eat.
Kii motioned for the cub DT02 to come to her and she put her
head against his and inquired.
She got images of the two female cubs reuniting but with
Samantha being sickly and emaciated and then of Leslie alone and sad
while Samantha lay there dead.
You are a wise young man. Kii praised the leader of the pack
while scratching behind his ears, making him purr deeply, You may
have saved her life.
Ep 8, Chapter 6
The day Leslie entered the apartment, a week after she had
been allowed to regain consciousness, with the ungainly skull cast still
in place, she was a more timid, uncertain animal for sure.
First of all, her peripheral vision was completely blocked by
this device, leaving her with tunnel vision, secondly, despite every
effort to make the cast as light as possible using super rigid foam, it
seemed that it weighed her down heavily and affected her balance and
caused her some pain.
Once she reflexively shook her head and clearly it sent an
explosion of agonizing pain through her skull, so now she did not like
the cast to be touched, and she shied away from contact with anything
which might cause it to cause her pain.

142

Samantha lay right next to her with her head on Leslie's back
and looked sad and forlorn.
Kii noted that despite her uncertainty and trepidation, even
sluggish and timid behavior, other than Samantha, the rest of the
animals gave Leslie plenty of space.
Ep 8, Chapter 7
Kii had still not let on that she knew of the cat's telepathic
abilities, nor had Janice let on either.
Both were keeping this all a secret from each other, but for
differing reasons.
Therefore, when Missy led Leslie in to the lab for a routine
check up, and the cat began to seemingly gargle or make some form of
respiratory distress sounds under semi-sedation, and while listening
intently to what almost sounded like muffled speech or drowsy
mumbling, she was, somewhat like the others caught off guard when
the images came flooding in.
At first the flood of images she saw from her crouched down,
bent over position made her jolt and stand bolt upright, immediately
breaking the connection.
But after a few moments of awe and wonderment, she carefully
placed a chair near the big cat and deliberately leaned in and put her
forehead against the muzzle of the big cat.
The images instantly began flooding in again, many of them
she recognized, some she seemed to have forgotten.
She was reliving her entire past from much farther back than
what even Janice had seen.

143

She was reliving it all the way from the womb.

She was born in a northern area of Cambodia to a couple who
had fled China due to political persecution.
While in Cambodia, she and the community grew aware that
she was somehow different.
The village as a whole began to say things and even in this
very modern age, the occult and superstition were rich back in these
jungles.
They used many words she could hear but not understand,
perhaps because of her young age, perhaps because she had not really
learned the local jungle dialect, perhaps because she was raised
primarily speaking Chinese, or perhaps because they took her in the
middle of the night after forcibly subduing her parents and carrying
her out, strapping her on the back of a Carabo and putting a sack over
her face.
While she cried and struggled, they took her far far from her
home to a place so far away she no longer knew where she was, and
there, they dumped her off, cutting the lashes of the straps without
even the decency of letting her to the ground, so that she fell painfully
upon her head and was left in a painful, terrified, grief stricken state
while still bound and hooded, with no idea where she was.
As the villagers left her, she struggled against the bindings with
a blinding head pain interfering with her efforts until finally much later
she managed to work free of them.
She was very young then, and although she had no idea why
they had done this terrible thing to her and her parents, she knew that
they had not chosen to kill her despite having the ability to do so, but
they had taken her so far from home, she had no idea where she was.

144

To make matters worse, they had deposited her on a very small

marsh island where there was water all around her, thus leaving no
tracks for her to follow once the hoof prints re-entered the water.
She was hungry, thirsty, exhausted, roasting in the jungle heat,
being bitten by bugs and bleeding from her scalp where she had struck
an old cypress stump with a rather sharp splinter still poking up which
had not decayed away completely.
Had the splinter been much sharper, it would likely have killed
her by penetrating her skull upon impact.
Thankfully, too, the black cloth they had hooded her with had
helped to absorb the blow and was loose enough to allow the splinter
to shift instead of burrowing upon impact.
Although she had a nasty gash in her hair and was covered in
blood, she had enough sense to keep the hood on her head to keep
whatever was outside of it out.
Without any idea what she was going to do, she simply sat on
the island for an entire day and a night trying to determine what she
must do to survive, and if at all possible, return and find her parents.
This was the point where the vision ended and the cat whuffed
at her softly, breaking her reverie.
The Futanari breathed in wide eyed, spellbound astonishment,
Oh great gods...
Ep 8, Chapter 8
Come lunch time, Missy was still deeply pondering these
details while she was being served lunch and both Kii and Janice
noticed it.

145

They did not want to say anything because they feared that
they already knew what had happened, especially seeing as with this
close and intense of handling practices, it was inevitable it would
eventually happen.
Finally Missy leaned forward as if feeling weak, put the palm
of her right hand to her forehead and looked up at the other two who
were, up until a moment before, acting as if nothing was the matter
and doing a terrible job of it.
Okay people, Missy declared, the proverbial 'cat' is already
out of the bag, okay?
They looked at her more as if they were caught than if they had
no idea what she was talking about.
Stop playing dumb and cough up what you know already.
she persisted as if she had a powerful migraine.
I don't think you are feeling well honey, Janice offered,
perhaps you need the day off?
I'm just FINE. the taller researcher half growled, I just want
to know HOW all of my childhood MEMORIES have been stuck
inside a-
Oh now-now there! Kii popped up virtually shouting, Lets
all have lunch OUTSIDE in the fresh clean air, extending her hands
wide with her childish beaming smile, shall we?
Missy was about to say I don't know what you- but she saw a
stone cold, dead serious look on Janice's face and she stopped dead in
the middle of her sentence, then slowly began again, are going to do
about the things that will spill all over. hastily pointing at the cups of
soup and tea, while eyeing Janice with a look of concealed alarm while
mouthing the words, you knew?
146

Janice was all but motionless other than a slow blink to the
affirmative.
Well then! Missy stood up with a glowing expression on her
face, I think a noonday walk about now would be a FINE idea! and
without hesitation backed away from the table and streamed like a
dancer toward the door.
Kii bounded behind her crying, Picnic! YAAAYYY!!!
Janice rose up behind them with a troubled look of expectant
dread and followed behind them.
It was dead obvious that they were going outside to have a
clandestine conversation, because not a one of them took with them
any food!
Ep 8, Chapter 9
Suddenly as they entered the lobby, Janice suddenly declared,
Oh you know what, with a forced yet still amazingly lovely smile
such as nobody had ever seen on her face before, its such a lovely
day, she pulled out her keys, lets have some shaved ice, shall we?
In a flash, they diverted into the garage and in moments, the
black Mercedes was backing out into the driveway and seconds later
was on its way down the mountainside.
The car was without speech as Janice played classical music at
a serene, peaceful volume.
The car whipped down the hills far faster than usual and she
was almost in a side-ended collision as she barely stopped at the one
little intersection on the entire mountain route.

147

As the car came screeching to a halt, everybody's hair went

forward, then back, as she tromped on the accelerator and sped off
again.
Missy felt like mentioning that she need not be in such a hurry,
but when two small Japanese made modified mountain racing cars
came up from behind, she realized, they were in fact being followed.
Janice's expression was as droll and unexcited as usual as she
masterfully whipped the all wheel drive, all wheel steering, v-12
German made car around each corner, scarcely getting a chirp from the
tires.
The advanced reflexive cornering system automatically banked
the car against each curve, tightening the turning radius even more
precisely.
The two cars which followed, however, were leaving long,
smoking trails as their tires were essentially burning off around each
corner as they used street racing techniques known as 'drifting' to keep
up.
Kii gripped both handles on each back door, her eyes wide, her
teeth clenched and her face pale.
Missy kept apprehensively looking back in the mirror as the
cars tenaciously stayed within sight, especially on the straight aways
where their little nitrous backed engines would wrap up to extremely
high speeds to keep up with the v-12 which was virtually purring in
overdrive the entire time.
We're not losing them. Missy finally remarked with only one
third of the single access mountain road remaining before they would
enter into dangerous traffic.
That's not my objective here. Janice replied, Just wait and
148

see.
As the three cars sped down the road, the two smaller Japanese
cars, both flamboyantly painted and bearing tinted windows, costly
aluminum type racing wheels and blaring down the street with a
horrendous sound, Missy gazed at each of them through the equally
tinted windows of the Mercedes.
As the last few hundred meters came up, Janice checked her
navigation schedule and it indicated that a train was coming across the
nearby tracks any second.
Timing this just right would mean the difference of which side
of the train they were on the moment it crossed, but more than that, it
would mean the difference of living and dying.
As the train came into sight at the last moment, with the rail
guards already down, the English woman, without ever changing the
expression on her face flipped a small lid up on the dashboard and
pressed a little white button with something written in English.
Before she had time to analyze the words, however, something
under the hood of the long, sleek car began to screech and then a
whistling noise followed as the car roared and lurched ahead.
What she had activated, now that she was pinned to her seat,
was a manually engaged supercharger.
Ep 8, Chapter 10
Two out of three girls wailed in terror as the Mercedes rocketed
ahead of the two Japanese cars on trails of white tire smoke.
In seconds the crossing leapt in front of them.
It was only milliseconds before the front of the train as it
149

clipped a crossing guard, sending it flying in a thousand tiny pieces,

the flashing lights being ejected from their small black metal shrouds,
which went spinning off, bent and twisted, pieces of loose copper wire
in hot pursuit for a nearby rice field.
The two Japanese cars slid and skidded and went off the road
to each side in the ditch, one turned over and one got jammed into a
concrete drain about eight meters in, and would later have to be
dragged out in pieces because it was too tightly squeezed in to simply
pull out from either end with a winch.
Since people were known to road race on this particular
mountainside, there was always one or two police waiting at the
bottom of the hill to catch them red handed.
This time, the arrests were easier than normal because there
was no high speed chase.
On the other hand, by the time the police discovered that these
were under cover JDF observation team members with legal authority
to be doing exactly what they had been doing [up to, but excluding
crashing, destroying government property and losing the target
completely] the fleeing Mercedes was far away and nowhere to be
found, let alone eavesdropped upon.
They all sat on the rocks where the roar of the ocean was
almost deafening.
So you two already knew. Missy said, then she asked, I
would ask you, 'why keep it a secret', but now I know.
So then is there anything else to discuss here? Janice checked
her watch, Lunch time is almost over.
I just want to know, Missy breathed out slowly, what are we
going to do now?
150

Episode 9
Fear, Trapped in a Cage
The three researchers actually passed by the two cars being
loaded onto flatbed trucks as they made their way back to the
laboratory.
The men who were set there to follow them looked on in looks
of self disgust and some resentment.
Kii waved at them with an impish grin from the back window
as the Mercedes casually passed them by.
Once they arrived at the laboratory, they entered it as if nothing
at all had happened and walked back to the cafeteria where they left
everything sitting forty three minutes earlier.
They sat down to resume eating but almost instantly, Missy
smelled something strange in the air and looked around as her nose
rankled and said, You know, folding her hands before pushing her
meal away from herself, I think that shaved ice really filled me up.
then locking gazes with the other two, Kii with rice actually in her
mouth and chopsticks between her lips, and Janice about to sip on the
tea in her hands, How about you two ladies? offering a beatific, and
yet somehow apologetic smile.
Uh-oh. Janice frowned, looking down into her cup, Now
that you mention it, I do seem rather full. then she looked with subtly
raised eyebrows at Kii, Don't you Kii-chan?
Kii looked at both of them, her chewing slowing, then she rose
up quietly with her entire tray and walked to the sink where she ran the
disposal to begin dumping her food down the power food grinder and
leaning inward spat the partly chewed rice from her mouth in with it.

151

She then washed her hands, being careful to also rinse out her
mouth in the process.
I think I shall leave this for the assistants to clean up. Janice
rose, I really have a lot of work to do. and she put down her tea,
raising from the table saying in the traditional manner, Thank you for
the meal, excuse me please. before bowing slightly to the two other
researchers and leaving for the restroom.
Once in a stall, she put her finger down her throat to empty the
contents of her stomach.
Ep 9, Chapter 2
It was clear that the JDF knew that something was up.
What it was, they did not know, but they suspected and they
were determined to find out, no matter how they found out.
The mission commander got the report that the men set in
position to spy on them were bested in an impromptu road race which
ended dismally for the seasoned driving veterans.
The food which had been laced with a cocktail of drugs which
should have been undetectable had somehow ended up going down the
disposal uneaten,
Whatever these three women were up to, they were doing an
exemplary job of concealing it.
Their reports, however dramatic, seemed to match identically
with everything being collected both on camera as well as on the
monitors.
In fact, it seemed, somehow, that the progress of the cat's
intellectual capacity had suddenly leveled off, despite promising leaps
152

made in recent broods.

There were now over five hundred animals in the process of
being trained.
Several batches of cubs had reached adulthood and were being
shipped off to remote islands for fitting and training with armor,
weapons and simulated munitions.
The cats seemed to fully understand their orders, were
compliant, reliable and even docile.
Still, something in their eyes said they knew more than they
were letting on.
He worried a lot and as he lay in his own bed at home beside
his wife of forty years, who was trying to pretend to be asleep, he was
staring at the ceiling on his white with red pinstriped pajamas staring
at the ceiling.
This was getting out of hand and he needed to do something,
but what exactly he was not sure.
If his bosses knew the situation had gotten out of control, he
would be on the chopping block, not the researchers.
He could not simply halt progress either.
He felt like he was on a runaway train with orders to not stop
and yet he sensed that there was a major disaster looming on the
horizon, only he could not prove it.
He could not jump, he could not stop the project without proof
of a problem, and he could not put the blame on anybody else. To
make it worse, he knew that the researchers knew and despite his best
efforts to bug everything they owned, they managed to somehow
153

communicate to one another without anybody anywhere being able to

decipher their mysterious code.
If only I had SOME little SCRAP of evidence! he thought to
himself as he pressed both of his hands against his face.
His wife, gently reached over touching his arm softly, startling
him, whispered, Thinking about whatever is bothering you is only
going to deprive you of sleep my love.
Yes. he sighed and clasped her hand warmly, You are right
Mai-chan. and he rolled toward his wife, scooping her up into his
arms and pulling her close, I need to let things be when I am here
with you. and finally with his wife in his arms, he found sleep that
night.
Ep 9, Chapter 3
At the same moment, across the land lay two figures sleeping.
One was dreaming of Old England, and one was dreaming of
the jungles of Cambodia.
While one was gaily window shopping, the other was
nervously pacing slowly through the bush, crouched low, sniffing the
air.
Somewhere ahead was a small, fur covered animal.
The hunter salivated in anticipation of the first meal in many
days.
Hungry, tawny, dirty, naked and scarred, the straggly haired
demi-human sweat heavily, its stubby tail twitching in nervous, eager
anticipation of a kill and a desperately needed meal.

154

The claws, never trimmed, grew long and the beast-human

regularly filed them sharp on stones along the walls of the cave it lived
in.
It eagerly licked its small, almost ineffective fangs in
anticipation of sinking them into the unsuspecting prey.
Suddenly there came the scent of a rival.
There was another predator nearby and it was likely searching
for the same prey.
Instinct should have told the weakened, famished predator to
retreat and avoid yet another painful conflict, but experience and
confidence, driven by the burning pit of hunger had taught the demihuman a whole other lesson.
Suddenly the orange furred dhole, a member of the canine
species leapt out of the thick brush, divided between pursuit and
defending its territory.
It made the fatal mistake of challenging the ravenous demihuman.
Janice awoke in terror from her blissful dream to the raging
catlike scream and wild lurching of Missy, who came to trying to kill
her own large leather purse in the middle of the bedroom floor.
As her bleary eyes adjusted to the seemingly glaring light of
the lamp by her bed, she peered on the back side of the Futanari who
was growling and tearing her own purse to pieces, and suddenly she
noticed that there was a small elevated place beneath Missy's panties
that was moving.
Ep 9, Chapter 4

155

Missy was mortally embarrassed.

She was in tears sobbing and apologizing.
Its okay honey. Janice held the big researcher close speaking
in soothing tones, We all have bad dreams now and then.
That could have been YOU though! Missy weakly sobbed,
What if I had tried to attack YOU in the dream?
I'm sure I would have just tickled you until you stopped.
Janice smiled and kissed the Futanari's forehead.
Missy couldn't help but break out into giggling.
Don't let your past worry you so. Janice insisted softly, still
stroking Missy's long black hair, We all have them, she admonished,
and we all survive them.
I thought it was all behind me. Missy murmured, I thought
it was all done and finished.
All but the memories my love, Janice replied soothingly, all
but the memories.
Why here? Missy asked, Why now? she looked up, tears
still in her eyes as she looked up at Janice with a pleading look, Is
something terrible about to happen to me?
I would not prefer to see it that way. Janice kissed the big flat
nose of the other researcher, I'd prefer to think that something
WONDERFUL is about to happen.
I hope you are right. the big woman shuddered, it seemed her
ears were wiggling somewhat.

156

By the way, Janice asked.

Yes? Missy asked back.
When you were born... she could not find a more delicate
way of asking it, did you happen to have a tail by any chance?
Ep 9, Chapter 5
Kii's night was its own ordeal.
While she was sitting at her console typing, reducing
everything into statistical data, deciding what to leave in and what to
omit, she had a tingling sensation and she looked up to be startled by
the professor.
Professor! she exclaimed as she jolted, eyes going wide
briefly.
I see they are getting suspicions. the kindly old man said, I
came to look in on you and let you know everything is going
according to plan.
It is? she asked, You mean you meant for them to be
suspicious?
No, the cat god replied, but that was going to happen at
some point no matter what.
So then -? she began in a leading manner.
Everything IMPORTANT is going according to plan. he
smiled, his winkled eyes smiling in such a saintly, grandfatherly
manner one had no choice but to feel relaxed in their presence.
Oh. Kii said, And what all does that include? she asked.
157

Some things it is best not to tell you in advance, little one.

the illusion of a human said, It is best if you proceed as you are for
the time being and just know that it is, in fact, being taken care of,
now, even as we speak.
Yes professor. she nodded.
Relax. the apparition said softly with a warm smile, Have I
ever given you a test you could not pass with flying colors?
No, Kii blushed, I felt you always went too leniently on
me.
This is no different little one. he smiled while nodding
slightly, When the time comes, he said as he began to fade from
view, you will know exactly what needs to be done.
Goodbye professor. she smiled softly as he faded out of
sight.
The small researcher continued logging her data as if nothing
had ever happened.
Ep 9, Chapter 6
The three girls acted as if nothing were out of the ordinary and
continued their daily activities, although Janice did begin to bring their
food from home, not even trusting catering services at this point.
This continued without visible incident for yet another three
full months, in which time, cats began appearing with slightly
oversized cranial cavities.
This was calmly and duly reported by the researchers as if
there were nothing amiss, because, even in accordance to the
158

contractual development plans, the initial directive stated that part of

the plan was the production of a highly intelligent, autonomous
animal, capable of understanding, executing and even passing down
orders from headquarters.
They must have simply not expected it to progress this far this
fast or to this extent.
The research staff were placidly following orders to the letter,
or at least so it would seem.
They were carefully omitting many details from their reports
which might at first have seemed very small details, but when added
together culminatively signified that the progress of the project had
already far exceeded its program parameters by several magnitudes.
Some of the key signs were so subtle that only those
thoroughly trained in animal psychology could pick them out, while
others were just plain peculiar even to the untrained soldiers in the
field.
The people who were watching the researchers surely did not
miss this detail, but even if 'they knew that they knew', NEITHER side
could say anything about the other side without pointing fingers
without proof, making open accusations which would expose their
motives and risk the entire operation going against them and blowing
up in their collective faces.
Both sides were in over their heads and they knew it.
The girls had only the slightest upper hand in that the JDF
desperately wanted this cloning device to create and mass produce
super human soldiers.
The cats were indeed novel, and they even had several
advantages, but an intelligent cat could be a real problem in the eyes of
159

the people at the top who wanted unchallenged submission.

They simply could not be sure who would be loyal to whom.
Were the cats loyal to the researchers, the JDF, the deceptive
uniform that anybody could put on, or to their own species, fully apart
from all humans.
Their having any intellect or will was an unchancy wild card.
A board room meeting of the directors of operations was called
to discuss what had been transpiring in the program.
Seven of the fourteen men saw real promise in using the
stronger, faster, more agile, more durable animals for some purposes
such as mountain patrols, but to send them in to a foreign country for
infiltration was simply out of the question.
They all to a man elected to limit the development of these
animals any higher in their intelligence or their intellectual capacities
because there was just too great of a chance that they could have a
mind of their own and act in manners disruptive to the purposes of the
JDF.
The order was handed down to Mission Commander Major
Shin Tanaki that the development of any higher intellectual capacity in
the animals was heretofore strictly forbidden at the cost of scrapping
the entire project.
Ep 9, Chapter 7
It was the day that Leslie was scheduled to have her skull cast
removed and both Kii and Missy came with all of the usual equipment
including a tranquilizer, the gurney and armor.
The strange thing is that Leslie came up softly without being
160

bade and instead of eating the dish of tranquilizer laced meat, she
literally hopped up on the gurney to their amazement lowered herself
down and slipped her legs into the holes where they would usually
dangle.
Would you look at that! Missy breathed in astonishment.
Kii looked up at her worried and motioned for the taller
researcher to bend over.
When she did, Kii whispered, That just got caught on camera.
What do you think they are going to say when they see such an
astonishing change in the animal's behavior?
Well its too late now, Missy replied, what are we supposed
to do?
For now just strap her down and lets do our jobs. Kii
suggested, acting more calm and mature than normal.
I have to admit, Missy sighed as she concluded the
whispered conversation, I have a bad feeling about this.
Although they went about the rest of their day as if nothing
abnormal had happened, they knew that the proverbial 'cat' was now
out of the proverbial 'bag' for the whole JDF to see.
Ep 9, Chapter 8
The latest batch of cubs came out with such large cranial
cavities they had a hard time holding up their heads while they were
still small.
They often lay there motionless just looking at the world.
They would eat and rest, and not even play.
161

They seemed to be 'beyond the tipping point' in effect.

What did show to be the case, however, was that most of their
food intake was being devoted to developing these oversized brains in
their wide, flat, nearly triangular almost reminiscent of the head of a
venomous snake.
Interestingly enough, as their cranial cavities increased, so too
did their jaw profiles.
Relative to the cross sectional dimensions and density of
previous cubs, this batch had jaws which would prove to be far
stronger and open far wider, allowing them to attack with greater force
while also grabbing hold of a wider cross section of their prey.
Even as mere cubs, some of them had jaws as wide as Missy's
large Futanari hands and as an experiment, she replaced the smaller
nippled newborn nursing bottles with ones designed for two month old
cubs.
Their heads were developing almost too rapidly for their
bodies.
It seemed that they would become top heavy and unable to
function if this continued.
Both Missy and Kii were happy to put into their reports that
these animals may have passed the functional threshold for the
program and they elected to leave them out of the combat training
regimens.
Despite this, however, they did not leave them out of all of the
schooling.
These sleepy little cubs proved to be every much as bright as
162

their six month old predecessors only seven days out of the cloning
machine.
They took increased interest in the more intangible, intellectual
lessons and less interest in the physical, hard work type lessons,
seemingly developing into 'nerd' cubs.
I think I shall call them 'Panterium Nerdium'. Missy decided
at lunch one day.
I think we should hold off on naming them anything at this
point. Janice warned, We're exceeding the specifications of this
contract by a wide margin and the very fact they are here is a very real
threat to the program.
What can we do about that? Kii asked.
You now what scientists normally do with test specimens
which pass unacceptably beyond the parameters of their research.
Missy grumbled in a disheartened and threatening tone.
Noooooo! Kii immediately cried, They CAN'T do that!
If they find out, Janice warned, that's EXACTLY what
they'll do.
Ep 9, Chapter 9
Within a month of this event, Janice went in to the laboratory
to check on a routine inspection of the specimen K992 when the cat,
not remotely sedated reached out and took hold of her hand with its
mouth.
She gasped in alarm, not even aware that Leslie was not
sedated and tried to pull her hand back.

163

Although she could not retract her hand from the mouth of the
big cat, she realized that it was placidly and intently staring at her and
not biting down.
She set down her note pad in the other hand and said, Okay
girl, trying to be soothing, everything is okay, then she tried
gingerly stroking the cat's head, fully unaware that Kii cuddled all of
the cats all of the time.
The cat seemed to be purring, but still it did not let go, but
instead, it seemed to be intently licking the hand in its mouth.
That's really odd behavior for any cat. she thought to herself.
Instantly the cat stopped licking but continued gazing at her.
Did she just stop because of what I thought? she asked
herself.
The cat literally nodded, with the researcher's hand in its
mouth.
Did you just nod at me? she gaped at the animal wide eyed.
Again the cat nodded.
How can you even DO such a thing? she asked in alarm.
The cat's legs, not being shackled, allowed the cat to shrug its
shoulders while its eyes slowly closed partially and reopened in an
astonishingly human gesture.
And you understand everything I'm saying to you? she
asked.
The cat closed its eyes part way and nodded again.
164

How is that even possible? Janice asked, stunned.

Again, Leslie shrugged.
This is not good. the researcher looked up at the cameras in
the room, This is not good at all!
The cat got something like an expectant look waiting for an
explanation.
She thumbed the intercom on the desk, Missieeeeeeeeee...!!!
Missy arrived and immediately Leslie released Janice's hand
and looked back with what seemed to be a wide smile and purred
loudly.
What seems to be the problem Janice-chan? Missy asked as
she burst into the exam room.
She...she... the director could not think for a moment, still in
shock, she UNDERSTANDS US!!!
Episode 10
Can We Escape This?
Many of the big cats had been permanently stationed at various
islands around the Pacific rim because they were now fully
accustomed to using their armor and weaponry.
There was an override mechanism on the armor to prevent it
from being fired on JDF troops of course.
This was the first year that the program had been able to
officially announce results.

165

This, however, was not the end of the dilemma for the
laboratory.
Their newest batch were not only growing more intellectual
than previously expected, the new adults were exhibiting shocking
levels of intelligence.
For their seeming level of cranial development, their higher
brain functions were so far above what common convention had
assumed about them.
From merely being brute beasts, it was evident that these were
thinking, rational, even conversational animals.
The newest cubs now were romping around playing tag and
seemingly they laughed or something, they had developed bodies
which began to match their seemingly ungainly heads and were
becoming larger and more powerful than their predecessors.
Duwayne spent as much time with them as they would pay
attention to him.
It was evident he was teaching them things that he had learned
from the older adults while they were in the apartment.
Since all of the adults were now out on bases around the South
Pacific Rim, they were out of his reach and he could not keep contact
with them.
What was going on with the older adults was totally beyond the
scope of the cubs and young adults now.
The nature of the animals was such that they were cooperative
and seemingly docile, while beneath it all, Kii had informed Janice and
Missy of everything except the strangest part of all, and that being that
the professor was not who they had always grown up thinking he was.
166

She felt they were not ready for that information just yet.
I've been in constant communication with them since the first
incident you noticed me acting strangely. Kii informed them in a
hushed, conspiratorial whisper.
That's odd, Janice frowned, you've acted 'strangely' ever
since we first met you!
Even Kii giggled at this remark, but then she straightened up
and said, But seriously...ladies, dipping a piece of french bread in
her ramen broth, then holding it before her face as she spoke, masking
the camera from reading her lips, what we need to do right now is
make sure we can move these people some place safe when the JDF
comes to shut us down.
Missy asked softly while holding her tea mug up to her mouth,
Have you any plans on that?
Kii said nothing but she grinned like a Cheshire cat.
Ep 10, Chapter 2
Strangely, for the most part, Kii's plan seemed essentially to do
nothing at all.
They pondered this and lay in Janice's bed in the dark troubled
and thinking about it.
Her plan seems kinda sketchy, doesn't it? Missy murmured.
Yes, Janice replied, but then she is evidently leaving
something, or some THINGS out of it, so we'll just have to wait and
see.

167

She's incredibly good at keeping secrets for seeming to be

such a ditsy blabbermouth. Missy commented with a touch of ironic
humor in her voice.
Yeah, Janice breathed, she's a lot smarter than she lets on.
then she rolled over toward the Futanari and said, which is a really
good thing in times of crisis.
Yeah, Missy remarked, its truly amazing, and yet at the
same time, one has to keep in mind she is a childhood Mensa prodigy
too.
Sort of like our cubs now, huh. Janice rolled back onto her
back and stared at the ceiling the way Missy was doing, lacing her
fingers behind her head.
Yeah. Missy agreed, We've seemingly indeed generated a
new subspecies.
We can't let anything happen to them now. Janice spoke
softly, In a way, she breathed, to them, she looked over to Missy
who glanced back, we're something like gods.
Ep 10, Chapter 3
The helmets Kii designed for the new cubs were still waiting
on determining their final adult size, so she kept the file on a
detachable drive away from the rest of her files.
She had a sneaking suspicion that these cubs were going to
grow to far greater proportions than first expected.
Their paws were unusually large, which, if it followed the
known patterns for animals, especially predators, that meant they were
indeed going to be large animals.

168

She did not place this speculation into her reports, however.
Instead, she made a big issue about how they had developed
longer than average hairs in their coats.
Instead of being a sleek, short haired coat, it was turning out to
be much thicker like perhaps a Maine Coon type coat.
Indeed their coats were becoming very unlike the usual coats of
jungle cats and more like what one would expect in a temperate or
perhaps even near arctic climate.
Two of them were showing signs of small, semi developed subdigits as well.
This development, in all actuality was not something she
noticed at first because nobody examined their paws at first.
What happened was that while she had a cub up on the
examination table, it began to play with the straps and while it was
doing so, she noticed it seemed able to curl one of its 'thumb' digits
around the strap, much as a human could.
This was not totally unheard of, as again, like the Maine Coon
breed, which was highly prone to polydactyl development as a breed,
as were others of the feline genus and phylum, only they were not
closely related to the big cats, who were not known for this trait.
Partial polydactyl development in specimens HC26 and
PM33, she noted, development of a semi-opposable 'thumb' or
thumb-like digit on both forepaws.
Is it possible that there are some ancient genetic throwbacks in
the cloning process which are awakening latent yet dormant genetic
features hidden within their chromosomes? she spoke into the
recorder.
169

She drew some samples from the unhappy cub who did not like
being jabbed with a needle.
Sorry about that little guy, she said as she thumped the vial
of his blood, its part of being here I suppose.
The little cub made a varied mixture of sounds in response and
waved its paw in the air at her.
What's that? she asked.
The cub made the noise again, exactly like the first time.
I sure wish you could just... she froze.
Ep 10, Chapter 4
Kii reviewed the training game.
Sure enough, there was this one Japanese character called
General Fujima who would stand there and talk.
Some person in the programming department had the sense of
humor to make this like a human video game, and sure enough, it had
little phrases it would say if you won, or if you lost.
When the trial was raised to an increasingly difficult level and
more of the cubs were not succeeding, the general would come on and
say, Well you're still green kid, it takes a lot of work to become a
warrior!
Although the words were not nearly as distinctive as if a
human had said them, when the cub 'spoke' it got every single vowel
correct and over forty percent of the consonant sounds within
acceptable ranges of what was classified as ineligible speech.
170

Wow, Kii remarked, aren't you a smart little fellow?

The cub purred and nuzzled her.
I wonder how to best make use of this though. she pondered
as she looked all throughout the game.
There was no actual dialogue in the game, only comments such
as, Give it your best, soldier! and There's no room for cowards in
this war!
Nothing there was what one could constitute as common,
conversational speech, only phrases.
Still, the cub had said this right after experiencing something
painful.
The cub, at least to some extent, had associated the phrase with
the expression of defeat, loss, pain or discomfort, she was not sure
which.
She ran downloaded the program onto her laptop, opened up
the program to the speech files and ran through the scenarios again as
she searched for words of congratulations associated with victories and
treats given out, to commiseratory statements if they failed by a
narrow margin, to a berating tone and harsh words if they failed or if
they simply did not try.
She reviewed the whole program and could easily see that this
program actually, to some extent, taught some speech patterns, tones
of human emotion, as well as offered something like the moral support
often associated with famous slogans.
Despite it being purely the seemingly humorous quirks of a
video game programmer turned soldier, it indeed had the one
171

undeniable effect that it was teaching, at least one of these young cubs,
how to recognize, and mimic human speech.
Ep 10, Chapter 5
Janice was brought in to the examination room and Kii asked
the cub What time is it soldier?
The cub began immediately to vocalize with some enthusiasm
while holding out both of its paws.
What did it say? Janice asked, as she somehow seemed at
this point to not be terribly shocked.
You're not surprised by that? Kii asked.
You were asleep when Missy and I realized that the one you
call Leslie could readily understand human speech. Janice replied, It
only tends to reason that this one here, with whatever else is going
on, stroking the cub's fluffy fur, these newer generations are
reaching at least, human, if not higher levels of intelligence.
What are we going to do about it? She asked the director.
The suddenly raised up on his hind legs, leaned forward and
landed on Janice's chest.
While she stroked the seemingly affectionate cub, however the
cub reached up and very deftly pulled a pen out of her lab coat pocket
and backed away with it.
What? Janice looked down in surprise.
The cub began dragging the pen, which it was unable to force
to click open, across the flattest part of the exam gurney in lines and
circles which did not last long enough to make sense of.
172

Its trying to write! she gaped, With...HANDS!

Oh yeah, Kii remarked as she looked on, I forgot to mention
that this one, and one other are also polydactyl.
Ep 10, Chapter 6
The two polydactyl cubs indeed both had the rudimentary
ability to write both Japanese and English characters they had seen
both on the video game screen as well as in various places around the
facility.
They could write 'Danger', 'Stop', 'Emergency Vehicles Only'
and many other words which they had readily seen at a distance, but
the small print such as 'all visitors must be accompanied by authorized
personnel' were not easily read while being pushed down a hallway.
They could draw stick figures of people and other cats, and
they were as good, respectively, as young children would be.
The other cubs quickly grew jealous and began fumbling with
the pens and paper in effort to mimic the more dexterous polydactyl
cubs.
Eventually one of them managed to lower its self onto her belly
and grasp the pen with her curled inner pads and, while holding the
pen upright, could make some relatively good letters and images.
The other young cats rapidly caught on to this new 'trick' and
before long were comparing one another's stick figure artwork.
We have a real bunch of Picassos in here. Missy commented
as she gazed at their rapid progress.
Not wishing to be outdone, HC26, now named Miyuugi began
173

to try for more elaborate images and began drawing a human face with
thick lips, overly large bangs and corkscrew hair.
Wow! Kii cried in admiration, Its YOU Missy! Look!
This positive excitement only incited greater competitiveness
and before long all twelve of these cubs were furiously trying to out
perform one another artistically.
Ep 10, Chapter 7
In only two weeks, Miyuugi had progressed from scrawling
crude animals and letters to formal verbal and grammatical
composition.
He made every effort to stand and walk like a human.
He did his best to speak everything he heard and had a
vocabulary of simple human words already in excess of 1800 nouns,
seventy five verbs and thirty one adjectives.
He was still not so clear one could simply stand up and say,
That cat is TALKING! because he seemed to have a very thin, loose
lips like most animals would have, making letters like 'b', 'p', 'm', and
'f' quite the challenge, yet he had a light, nimble tongue, which made it
more easy to say 'l', 'd', 't', 's', 'z' and 'k' sounds.
'W', 'h', 'y' and 'j' were effortless for all of them.
He would read, albeit slowly, off of a screen and would some
times stop to repeat the ones he had the most trouble with, but he
would keep at it until it was meal and play time.
At night now, there was often the soft murmur of young cubs
trying to talk to each other, mostly to emulate humans.

174

Leslie once came over and growled at them and they got quiet.
She and Samantha still remained in their corner away from the
rest of the animals.
Duwayne would spend time with everybody as much as they
would allow him, seeing as Leslie simply did not seem to like anybody
but Samantha and Samantha was just the shy, reclusive type.
There was indeed, something very much like a human social
structure forming.
Ep 10, Chapter 8
Miyuugi was in Janice's front office one day, when the mission
commander came up the hill in his staff car, a transport truck trailing
behind with the long dreaded order to close down the laboratory.
As he came in the door, with eight armed soldiers at his side, it
was obvious that he had already decided that this was as far as he
could allow the program to go.
The three of them had mentally tried to brace for this inevitable
day, but when it finally came, it seemed that there simply was no real
preparation for it.
Her boss came in and declared simply, We're closing down the
facility.
What? she asked, looking up incredulously.
The military is no longer funding the program. he replied,
They will be coming to take the animals and the weaponry, as well as
all of your research and dispose of it, even as we speak.
That... her eyes opened wide in fear, That can't BE!
175

It is, the mission commander sighed, here is the order. and

he dropped the paper on her desk.
She picked up her cell phone and called Missy.
Hello, Janice? Missy replied, My hands are kinda full at the
moment - as she was dealing with several hungry new cubs and
multiple bottles of formula, WHAT!? she squealed in horror.
Ep 10, Chapter 9
Missy immediately leapt up and began dialing Kii.
Kii began explaining everything to the cats and convinced
them to hurry up and don their armor.
Thankfully she had enough time to reproportion the head gear
for the newest batch of cubs two days before and she had completed
synthesizing them in the stereo lithography machine and had them test
fitted.
Missy began rounding up the cubs down the hallway, carrying
bottles of formula with her so she could quickly and safely transport
them.
Come on children, she said as she hurried to her intended
destination.
She was going to load them all into a special van stored inside
the facility which was used to drive the big cats to the ships which
would carry them to where they always performed their live fire
exercises.
The plan was to hopefully out maneuver the military in this
situation and buy them time to escape to freedom.
176

Unfortunately, however, when she got there, there were

soldiers already standing guard over their planned escape vehicle.
Missy peered through the glass at the soldiers and backed
away, texting Janice of the problem.
Janice did the one and only thing she could to to buy them
time: she ran out into the hall while the XO called after her, Wait!
What are you doing? to the nearest uniform emergency lock down
unit, smashed the glass and pulled the handle.
As the mission commander began to cry out, You can't do
that! the alarms began to blare and the main doors to the facility all
slammed shut and locked from the inside.
What did you do THAT for!? he wailed, getting a sinking
feeling because he feared the military and what they would do to his
career more than he feared for the well being of some laboratory bred
cats.
Janice shouted out as she ran down the hallway toward the
main apartment, the large headed cub bounding behind her, I did it for
THEM!
Ep 10, Chapter 10
All but eight of the soldiers and the mission commander had
been securely, if temporarily locked out of the facility.
The soldiers had the three researchers and the two assistants in
cuffs at gun point.
All of the animals were put into the apartment without trying to
remove the armor because the men were afraid of the animals and
clearly, shooting them through their advanced armor was pointless.
177

To further complicate the matters, the cloning device was also

inside the sealed compound, and it was not connected to a portable
source of power to keep operating properly, and if not shut down
properly, it would completely destabilize and the organic processor
would totally collapse.
The delicate quantum brain of the cloning device was its self,
essentially alive, albeit not as a sentient mind.
The organic computer relied entirely on the same nutrient
system as the clones within it but with a slight twist in that it in fact
relied on their life cycles to support its self in an emergency situation
as it was semi-chemosynthetic, deriving some of its required
computational relay chemicals from the byproducts of the life forms it
was raising from the raw nutrient base.
Since there was no other way to make the system this complex
without a building sized computer, it had been decided that the risk of
losing power was greater than the risk of the device being captured by
an enemy force.
Should an enemy force seize it, or so held the logic, any
attempt to move it without all the proper shut down sequences would
cause it to self destruct by default of it not being sent into a semicomatose state where it would be able to live off of microscopic
capsules of nutrients cleverly hidden within the computer its self.
The machine without the proper amount of nutrients would be
like depriving a human brain of oxygen leading to its own sort of brain
death.
While he was biding his time for reinforcements to arrive,
Major Tanaki decided it was time to begin the shut-down sequence.
He went about all of the processes as he had been thoroughly
178

trained on, however, as he patiently waited for the machine to turn its
self off, instead, it continued doing exactly what it was always doing,
and the screen reset its self back to 'nominally functional' status again
as if he had never done anything to it.
Confused, he tried the process once again.
Step by step he followed the instructions as prescribed, and
step by step it would say it had performed the steps and open up the
following screen, only when he entered the final command and it
asked if he wanted to execute, and once he had done so, it sat saying,
'processing' for a minute then refreshed to the original screen and once
again declare its self to be 'nominally functional'.
He repeated this seventeen times without effecting shut down.
He glared at the three women, one of which stared off blankly
into space, one glared at him in seething yet silent rage and one smiled
the stupidest, glowing smile one could possibly possess.
One might have wondered why she was smiling like this while
being held at gunpoint, but it was evident that he could not move this
machine while active, and only Kii knew how to shut the machine
down.
Episode 11
Into The Unknown
While the mission commander was scrambling to make sense
of the current situation, his men were patrolling the perimeter seeking
some means of overriding the security system.
There were four armed guards holding five civilians at bay
while four others scoured the facilities for some kind of override
mechanism by which they could force the base to be re-opened.

179

Those outside the base had radioed in support teams including

a demolition crew to blow open the doors if need be.
The teams were working at this for five hours without results
when suddenly, at just the moment that all of the guards were looking
at the feverish keyboard pounding of the mission commander, the
professor materialized out of thin air behind them.
Excuse me gentlemen. he said in a grandfatherly voice
making them all jump turn and reflexively fire.
The old professor's face grimaced as he grasped his chest for a
moment, but then he froze, and carefully peeped out of one eye at the
men.
This shocked the four of them motionless.
He opened his eye a little bit wider as if looking around to see
if all was clear, then a mirthful, sneaky smirk came across his face as if
he were sneaking around unseen, and finally he burst into hilarious
laughter.
The men finally broke from their frozen reverie only to gape in
awe that there were no traces of damage on the mysterious intruder.
One man pulled back the bolt to inspect to see if his
ammunition was live or not.
Sure enough, it was very real, or real looking anyhow.
Who are you and how did you get in here!? the mission
commander demanded.
That's not what's TRULY important to YOU right now, now is
it? the professor asked in a magnanimous tone, then just as suddenly
he said, Oh...just look...your fancy machine is broken.
180

The soldiers tried to rush him and proceeded to fall right

through him as if he were not there at all.
Are you girls okay? he asked as he grabbed all three in a
warm hug, only Kii was not surprised and hugged him back.
We're fine now that you're here professor! Kii cried in delight
and relief.
The soldiers were stymied that they fell through the old man
like a ghost and yet the girls clung to him tightly.
Thinking perhaps they had him at a disadvantage, they tried to
tackle the four of them only to land on the ground and roll through
them to the far side.
I think it is time now little one. the professor winked
knowingly.
As Missy marveled at the utter coolness of being translucent
matter suddenly, she listened to the words of the professor and asked,
Time for what professor?
Time for 'the great plan' to be put in motion great majestic
one! his eyes gleamed.
Majestic...? Missy blinked, Wait! Which plan?
The one you already set in motion majestic one! he beamed
as the soldiers climbed up off the ground, readjusting their helmets,
shaking their heads and generally trying to regain their bearings.
You mean you knew what we had in mind? Janice asked.
Of course, quiet wise one, the cat god replied as he gradually
181

morphed into his true form, causing eyes everywhere to bug out, I
have been working silently in the background all this time making
certain everything went the way it should.
As they looked the gargantuan cat filled the room until there
was scarcely room for the humans in the room with it.
You want this monster making machine, the cat god leaned
forward from a laying position and put its nose right up into the
mission commander's face, am I mistaken?
Y-y-y-you can ha-have it i-i-i-if you want it! the terrified
major stammered.
Oh I think I have enough children now, thank you very
much, the old man's voice came from out of the air as the cat god's
mouth did not move, it was very kind of you to lend it to me though.
Wh-wh-what? the major stammered, You set this all up just
to use this machine?
Well, the voice said out of thin air, let us merely consider
this a 'serendipitous turn of events' shall we?
Wh-wh-what d-d-d-do you want? the major pleaded.
I want free passage for my people here. the giant black cat
now smiled a toothy grin with fangs as long as his forearms, Let my
people go and you can have this base and your pretty little monster
machine without any more trouble!
Ep 11, Chapter 2
What makes you think once they are outside of this compound
that the military will honor your demands? the voice came over the
com from headquarters.
182

Because I am here. the cat god replied simply, I control

everything here.
So you are holding the major hostage there? the general on
the other side grated.
Oh no-ho-hohohohoh! the cat god rolled in laughter,
Nothing so useless as an incompetent puppet of your weak
government!
Then what? the general was annoyed at being directly
insulted.
I have your little monster machine! the immortal being
replied, And I can take it with me or I can leave it here, or I can
reduce it to its elemental components as I wish.
If you DARE-GAAAKKK! the man on the phone roared
then suddenly began choking.
You'll what? the cat god asked in a suddenly annoyed tone.
Ep 11, Chapter 3
Twenty military transports were convoyed up the mountain and
waited patiently under somewhat sketchy orders from the General
concerning a wide area live fire activity.
There were orders to fully arm and equip every animal with
their full rigging before they left the base and to not sedate or tether
the animals in the transports.
In fact, they were merely to open up the gates on the backs of
the transports so the animals could enter of their own free will.

183

This was totally outside of normal regulations and many people

spoke up about it but he ordered them to keep silent or face severe
military discipline.
In under an hour all twenty trucks were bound for the sea.
At the naval base, a mass transport deployment ship with
multiple amphibious landing craft on board was moored and the
animals were guided to these amphibious landing vessels without a
tether and not once did they step out of perfectly synchronized pace as
they streamed single file onto the vessel and in orderly manner lined
up in consistent rows on each landing craft.
The naval personnel were equally astonished that not only did
they perform each task fluently, but they did so without a single
spoken order.
It was as if they had been doing drills of this type for months, if
not years.
It would blow their minds to find that not a one of these
animals had ever before even wore their armor.
Some smaller cubs finally came aboard, these were simply
dressed with small black uniforms and saddle bags.
These would on occasion glance to the sides as their more
youthful curiosity lacked the more mature discipline of the older cubs,
but they never broke formation.
In three hours, the ship cast off and was headed out to the open
sea.
So Kii... Janice leaned over the rail of the transport ship,
peering through the noonday haze as the sun glinted off the sea,
What's REALLY going on here?
184

Ep 11, Chapter 4
The little researcher looked up and said somewhat
disingenuously, I thought you already knew!
Why would I be asking you if I knew? Janice asked flatly.
To scold me perhaps? Kii asked, Or to give me a hard
time?
Have I ever done so in the past? Janice asked casually while
watching the slow circling paths of seagulls.
No Janice-chan. the little researcher admitted, feeling
thoroughly reproved by the still, calm voice.
When we're in a less crowded location, Janice rose up off the
rail, turning and talking hold of Missy's arm, we'll talk more of this
later.
Yes Janice-chan. Kii acknowledged as she followed the two
taller, older women toward the port which would lead them into the
interior of the ship.
Ep 11, Chapter 5
The ship lurched and lunged in the high swells of the open
ocean and the big cats all lay down and waited it out.
Kii was not feeling well as the afternoon wore on and she lay
down in a bunk after she took some seasickness medicine.
Janice and Missy were unaffected and remained vigilant to
observe the cats as well as generally stare out at the open sea.

185

After a while, Missy began rubbing Janice's back and while she
did, Leslie down below on one of the amphibious landing craft
suddenly looked up at them and Samantha turned first to Leslie than
toward the humans then began nuzzling Leslie who seemed to be
mesmerized by the human interaction.
She's watching us again. Janice murmured without looking
directly down at the cats.
She's learning. Missy replied looking down and waving at
the cat.
You're encouraging her. Janice grumbled.
Why not? Missy asked, Kitties deserve love too.
Ep 11, Chapter 6
At two forty seven A.M. Japan Standard Time, at a run down
island seven hundred nautical miles from Japan was a ruin of a WW2
military base which had been occupied at different times by both the
Imperial Japanese Army and the United States Marine Corps.
Now it was over grown with vines, trees poked out of the
windows of rusting metal huts, concrete buildings showed cracks and
wooden doors had rotted to limp fragments of wood.
Vines had overtaken the imported steel mesh which served as
iron to feed the hungry running creepers.
Everywhere they looked it was a shambles in the darkness.
Flood lamps on the armored carriers shone in as if looking for
enemies, or perhaps, ghosts.
Men began unloading supplies off of transports as cats began
186

an orderly march toward a prescribed meeting point where some

temporary portable LED lights had been put up running on
rechargeable solar batteries.
One unloaded, most of the amphibious vehicles dislodged from
the sand and returned out to their mother ship.
The captain came along with the scientists to oversee the
finalization of the base transfer and the inspection of the long
abandoned island.
Men went about with mine detectors and scouted for booby
traps which may have been there now for over fifty years and yet
potentially still armed.
It was mid morning before everything was unloaded and
temporary observation tents and command facilities were set up.
Janice was feeling drained and Missy was looking listless,
while Kii, who had slept all the way here was overly excited and
running around like a child inspecting everything with a sense of awe
and wonder as if it were nothing but a grand adventure.
There you are Ms. Rupert-sama, the XO of the ship said,
your research equipment will be along in a few days as it is
categorized and stowed.
Thank you Captain Hoshido-san. the bland, expressionless
senior researcher replied.
By the way, the man asked her almost suspiciously, why did
they suddenly decide to put you out here in the middle of nowhere
with nothing but this old, rotted scrap heap for a facility?
Beast me Captain, she sighed as she signed the receipt, I
wish I knew my own self.
187

Ep 11, Chapter 7
Well it looks like you get to sleep with us now. Missy
remarked as she noted that there was no need to tend to any cloning
devices any more.
But the bed is hard as a ROCK. Janice grumbled.
I'm used to it. Kii shrugged.
So what's the deal now? Janice asked.
We just keep doing what we're doing for now. Kii smiled,
Professor-sensei will tell us what we need to do next.
So 'Professor-sensei' is a god then? Missy asked or more
specifically declared in an asking tone.
Well... Kii blushed, looking at the floor, shuffling with her
feet, I suppose he is.
I KNEW it! Missy exclaimed.
Oww! Janice winced, putting her fingers up toward her ears,
looking up at the Futanari with a hurt expression, You're louder than
Kii-chan dear!
Oh. Missy suddenly looked sad, Sorry about that Janicechan. then she brightened back up, But to really and truly meet a
GOD! she clenched her teeth while saying 'god' to keep the sound in
as she expressed her excitement.
You're more excited about this than our resident atheist.
Janice remarked.

188

That's just, Missy smirked, because she's EMBARRASSED

to be proved WRONG. and she stuck her tongue out at the little girl
who blushed at the remark.
Ep 11, Chapter 8
The three researchers awoke in the dark to the sounds of loud
moaning.
Alarmed at this, they all came outside and looked around to see
what the deal was.
Somebody had forgotten to take the armor off of the animals
and one of them found it impossible to sleep in the heavy, confining
armor in the hot tropical air.
My are we DUMB. Janice grumbled, Come on ladies, she
instructed, lets get this hot heavy armor off of these poor cats.
They spent hours pulling off the armor and setting it on racks
especially set up for it to keep it stored in an orderly fashion.
Duwayne and a few of the older young adults declined to take
off the armor.
Janice asked why this was and Duwayne rose up, planting his
paws on her shoulders to put his nose on her forehead where he gave
her images of troops sneaking ashore in the night to attack the base.
You think they'd do that to us? Janice asked.
The cat nodded.
So we're not here to just be safe, but here to make them safe
and dispose of us quietly? Janice asked.
189

Have more faith in a god than that, will you? Missy asked.
Kii had to support this, but she did not wish to insult the cats
with their wise caution and memories of the elders, so she said, Well
being cautious and doing what they were raised and programmed to do
will not hurt them any as long as they don't overheat any.
I wish these devices had refrigeration units on them. Janice
grumbled.
I forgot that they might be operating in hot climates when I
designed them up in the cold mountains. Kii admitted, I'll get right
on designing that.
Wait! Janice called out, You think they're going to DO
something like that when they just closed us down and ordered these
animals be destroyed?
Way I see it, Kii said, they will either comply and keep up
this ruse of a bargain, or else they will refuse and this will tell me
where we really stand on the matter.
You can't argue with her logic, Missy remarked, besides,
she shrugged, the old adage goes, 'it never hurts to ask'.
Ep 11, Chapter 9
When morning came, the professor appeared walking along the
eastern shoreline and the young adults radioed this in via
telecommunications mounted on their helmets.
Kii sprang up and dashed out in her pajamas before she tripped
over the vines in her house slippers and fell on the vine covered steel
grate with a painful 'oof' and began crying like a child.

190

Ohhh...darn. Janice moaned as she rolled out of the center of

the three military cots lashed together, slipped into her combat boots
and Velcroed them shut to go out and check on the youngest
researcher.
The young lady had a busted lip and bloody nose where she
had stuck her face on the expanded steel grate, which, despite being
rusted away badly, was still hard enough to resist human flesh.
She gently helped up the young lady and guided her back into
the tent where she was startled to find the professor standing there with
a tender and concerned expression, wearing a white silk robe with the
bluish white moon and a black jaguar embroidered on its back
surrounded by bamboo.
There there little one, he smiled adoringly and with a waved
of his hand the blood and pain vanished along with the gash on her lip.
As she sniffled, still upset, she sobbed, Thank you Professorsensei.
I'm sorry you were hurt on my occasion. the cat god said
softly, But I am delighted that you were happy to see me!
So why did you pick this island, Janice asked the deity, if
that is not asking for too much advance information.
I like it here. the supernatural figure replied, Its peaceful.
It wasn't always peaceful. Janice remarked, intending the fact
it was a twice abandoned military base.
That was only for a brief period of time in the grand scheme
of things though! his eyes sparkled, then he raised his right index
finger to make a point, I, however, have been here forever.

191

Ep 11, Chapter 10
Two days later, one small transport vessel came up near the
shore and some rubber dinghies came ashore with computers and some
more requisition forms to be signed, and they accepted Kii's proposed
refrigeration design which was intentionally designed to be operated
either by solar power or by the walking motion of the cats which wore
them.
We'll see what they say about this. the young captain of the
vessel said, I'm just a ship operator, not anybody who makes
decisions.
Janice nodded, We all do what we can Captain. and shook
the young man's hand.
With that the small vessel departed and they set out to begin
wiring up the computers and review how much data had survived the
scrutiny of the military.
Some items were missing, but much of what they felt was
critical for the original project's development was still intact and some
of it even had notes from the admiral.
That's strange. Janice remarked as they reviewed the data
together as a group.
That he remarked on the progress reports? Missy asked.
That he made any comments whatsoever. Janice said, This
man was one of the most ardent members of the opposition of this
program at the outset.
He was? Missy asked askance.
That's my point. Janice replied, These are anywhere from
192

merely amicable to outright supportive of our findings.

That would seem pretty strange indeed. Missy remarked.
Maybe he had a change of heart? Kii asked.
Or maybe the professor put 'the fear of god' in him. Janice
smirked as she read on.
Episode 12
The Changing of the Tide
The cats organized into patrols and circumvented the island
both day and night in shifts.
They donned their armor and worked their shifts as well as the
younger ones attended their usual schooling.
On top of their daily meals, however, Missy had requisitioned a
rubber dinghy and some fishing nets.
She would go out for two hours every day and fish for
whatever could be brought up.
Kii began to join in and she would go to the bottom and pull up
mollusks and even snared an eel.
They were living well for being 'stranded' on a remote pacific
island.
There was adequate water from the lone extinct volcanic peak
which had clouds up on its flanks many days and would precipitate
enough rain for their needs.
They ran around in bathing suits most of the time getting
deeply tanned while Janice remained in her lab coat and wore a wide
193

brimmed English style safari explorer's hat.

She remained in the cool air conditioned tents during the hot
daylight hours while the two Asian girls went about their daily duties
growing darker by the day.
By the fourth month on the island, Kii's hair had taken on a
more cinnamon tint as the sunlight began to bleach her hair.
Missy was so dark she did not even look oriental any more.
On top of this, the activities had filled out the Futanari's arms
and legs and her soft midsection was now rippled.
You look like an athlete, Janice remarked one day at lunch,
not a researcher.
I needed the exercise. Missy remarked, I was getting soft in
that cold damp laboratory. It would do you some good too you know.
You're accustomed to this weather though. Janice replied
defensively.
One gets accustomed by experience. Missy rebutted her
defense.
You should really come out and have fun with us! Kii
insisted.
You call roasting in forty degree heat 'fun'? Janice asked
askance.
Its only hot like that here and there, Missy replied, its much
cooler in the shade.
And in the water. Kii added.
194

Speaking of 'cooler', Janice remarked, changing the subject,

I got word your refrigeration units were approved.
Great! Kii asked almost as if it didn't matter, When are they
coming?
It didn't say. the director replied, It just says they were
approved.
Well in the mean time, the little researcher persisted, you
need to come out and have fun with us instead of staying all cooped up
in this cold tent all day!
Janice sighed, There's just no winning with you, is there?
Kii beamed, Nope!
Ep 12, Chapter 2
One day when feeding time came for the animals, it became
apparent that Leslie and Samantha were missing.
They were not on patrol, so they were not on the schedule for a
late meal, but they were not at the feeding location either.
Since they had not put on any armor during their off patrol
time, wherever they were, they were there without radio telemetry.
Kii asked Duwayne if he knew anything and he said he did not
but that everybody could go search for them.
All of the off duty cats put on their helmets which had radio
transponders and everybody set forth to search out the missing pair.
After half an hour, they were found securely nestled in the bole
195

of a hollow tree not a great distance from camp.

Their explanation was that it was a cooler place to escape the
heat, or so Duwayne passed along to Janice when they came back, and
that they had simply lost track of the time.
You have a valid point, Janice replied, but I sense there is
something more.
Duwayne hesitantly relayed the messaged that Leslie said she
would not talk about this matter with others.
So this is something quite personal I see. Janice
acknowledged, Would you care to discuss it with me in private?
Leslie was hesitant, but she agreed to this.
Going to the relative privacy of the examination tent, Janice
put her head directly on Leslie's head and thought-asked her, Okay,
what exactly is this all about?
Leslie's images and emotions were quite a confused tangle, and
she did her best to show all of the glimpses she had gotten of Janice
and Missy, and on occasion Kii and Missy embracing, even Kii sitting
in Missy's lap, and just in general their sense of closeness and
affection.
You're showing me images of we humans, Janice
acknowledged, specifically in affectionate moments, yes.
Then Leslie showed Samantha dancing all around Leslie,
especially putting her hindquarters in Leslie's face, and she expressed a
powerful sense of excitement and longing, yet at the same time
frustration and confusion.
Soooooooooo... Janice pondered out loud, with a knowing
196

expression, you want to know how women express 'love' with one
another.
Leslie looked up at her slowly panting in the mid-morning
heat, eyes hopeful.
Ep 12, Chapter 3
What am I supposed to do? Janice asked the other two, She
wants sex education!
You mean that did not come across to her as natural? Missy
pondered, Hmmm.
I say show her some porn. Kii replied.
You have any? Missy asked.
They wiped it from my computer. Kii replied mournfully.
You shouldn't be doing that at work anyhow. Janice rebuked
her.
Well anyhow, Kii replied, unless you have a great
imagination, you're just-
I can do that. Janice replied thoughtfully.
You can do what? Missy asked.
I can show her images. the director replied, I do have a
rather vivid imagination after all.
The way you act, Missy remarked, one might wonder if you
had any at all some times.

197

Unlike you, Janice jibed, I just keep mine to my self.

So are you gonna 'DO it'? Kii asked getting excited.
Geez you are SUCH a pervert... Missy rolled her eyes.
You are too, Kii bit her lower lip mischievously, so don't let
the pot call the kettle black.
Well while you two swap accusations, Janice arose, I'm
going to go do my directorly duty now.
You sound like you're not looking forward to it. Missy
remarked flatly.
Janice made a half thoughtful, half dismissive face but said
nothing as she rose and picked up her digital notepad.
There is one cool cucumber. Missy remarked, shaking her
head in admiration.
Speaking of cucumbers... Kii eyed the Futanari hungrily.
Oh no you don't! Missy got up from the table just as a pair of
hands began reaching across at her from under the table.
Ep 12, Chapter 4
Janice returned to the examination room with a bit of a blush
on her face as she laid down her notepad.
Leslie lay there panting, looking for all the world like a regular
mindless beast, but as soon as Janice sat down beside the examination
table she ceased panting and leaned forward with an intent expression,
clearly waiting for whatever the director was about to give her.

198

As Janice gained her composure, she said in a bit of a

disclaimer, Now keep in mind that this has never really happened,
okay?
The cat accepted this, although she wondered why it mattered.
We humans, came the mental reply, we're kind of sensitive
about various subtle nuances concerning sex and romance.
Leslie did not understand the fullest meaning of some of the
human words, but the overall feel of it was understood well enough
and she said that she did understand that there is a sense of privacy she
feels with Samantha where she did not wish to be callously and openly
showing their affections before the rest of the cats.
Well, Janice accepted, as long as you respect that, I can do
this without any sense of shame or embarrassment. and she proceeded
to give a visual demonstration using how she imagined Kii's naked
body would be, from a first person perspective, of how human females
would use their lips, tongues and fingers to touch and stimulate one
another, which at one point, Leslie interrupted by pointing out that she
had sharp dirty claws and that she was not even sure where such a
place on Samantha was.
Janice realized this but said she had to start with where they
were to get to where they were going.
After she explained the mechanics and a lot of anatomy, she
then went over her own memories of visually inspecting all of the
various female adults and cubs to be sure of their health and
development.
Suddenly, Leslie was exuding emotions of embarrassment and
discomfort, even though when it was a human female there was only
objective curiosity.

199

I see you do relate to your own kind sexually then. Janice

pointed out.
Leslie admitted that it was only natural.
Humans are not quite as 'natural' as people like you Leslie.
Janice remarked, Some of them would find you very attractive.
Leslie squirmed in real life, although she did not break mental
connection. This idea sent her pantera heart racing and there were all
levels of emotions from confusion to fear to shame to excitement.
Lets not get off into that idea, shall we? Janice asked,
especially since at one point she could sense that there were
mental/emotional traces of Missy in the cat's subconscious at that
point.
She remembered that this animal had been the one which
delivered the early life memories of Missy to her and that it was not
totally unknown to this animal that Missy was at least born with a tail
of some sort as well as still had unusually large canine teeth.
Trying to keep on topic, she focused on the idea that there was
as much potential to pleasure Samantha's sensitive areas with her
tongue as there was for Janice to pleasure Kii.
At this point the comparison struck home and Leslie became
very self conscious and began to moan shyly at the images all
compiling in her inner mind.
I think I've shown you enough of this, young lady. Janice
ceased all images.
Leslie seemed suddenly like a child who had just been told to
stop doing something they truly enjoyed as she lay there expectantly in
the midst of all of her deep animal emotions.
200

I think from there you can figure the rest out on your own.
and the director rose up, breaking mental contact and said, Okay little
missy, off you go.
She heard a bit of a gasp from two eavesdroppers outside as the
words 'little missy' slipped out.
Oh my gods. Janice thought to herself, She really IS...a
'little...Missy'!
Ep 12, Chapter 5
It was mid August when the refrigeration devices finally
arrived.
The cats spent their days in the examination tents usually or
else lounging in the surf.
Miyuugi would curl around Janice's feet when she sat and
wrote reports, walk beside her when she inspected the other cats, and
often times would do his best to walk like a human.
Some of the other cats scoffed at him, and he would make silly
faces at them and keep on going.
He stood as tall as Janice and would do his best to precisely
keep step with her, although because his torso was longer and he was
standing on his heels, what remained of his legs had to work extra hard
to span the same distance and his head bobbed up and down a bit
because of the pendulous gait he had to achieve.
You really should just walk around like other cats honey.
Janice advised him.
He made his protest in a completely intelligible reply,
201

Wyy'mmmm nawwt lyyykke thheemmm momma.

As you like then. Janice shrugged, Should I get you a bed to
lay on then? as he lay around her feet on the floor of the tent.
Yiyy lyyyke yiitt chheerrre vvvetterrr momma. he protested
this change of arrangements.
Why do I spoil you so? the director shook her head as she
typed up her report.
Veeekkusss yooo luvvvv mee momma. he replied.
She shook her head and chuckled, Surely I must!
Ep 12, Chapter 6
When Leslie and Samantha next came in from their little love
nest in the woods, Leslie looked as if she would have been blushing
and Samantha's appearance was one of sheer delight.
She not only did not stop dancing all around Leslie now, but
she seemed to be even more playful than before and she purred
incessantly.
The other cats regarded the pair with a whole gamut of
emotions.
Duwayne rose up on his haunches and with a raised paw roared
at them to mind their own business and let the pair be.
There were grunts and various small sounds from some of the
more disapproving amongst the animals while there were more
amused responses from some of the more open minded members.
Overall, they were in many ways, acting more like humans and
202

less like wild animals than one would have expected in the matter.
When the meal was over, the pair simply slipped back off to
their little hide away so they did not have to deal with the tribal
politics of the group in general.
Kii recorded everything on various fixed and automated
cameras as well as using a portable camera so she could focus in on
the most telling behavior.
Suddenly she was startled to back into somebody.
Ooop! she spun around, Oh Professor-sensei! she cried,
Its good to see you! and she hugged the cat god in human form.
You do much recording of these young cubs little one. he
pointed out, What is your ultimate objective with all of this?
Oh I don't know, Kii replied, it seems like we already
achieved our goals at this point, she shrugged, as long as we are paid
to keep doing this and it keeps them all alive, she smiled simply, I'm
happy for this to go on forever!
I wish that were possible, the cat god said, but at some point
I can't keep the humans at bay forever.
But you're a GOD... she protested, surely you can keep
them busy SOMEhow.
At some point, he replied, they are going to want to put an
end to all of this.
Then we can just carry on without them! Kii insisted.
We need to find a better place than this one, the cat god
declared, it is nice, he looked around with a look of satisfaction in
203

his assessment, but it is small and there is not enough wild food for
them here.
We can move them to a larger island somehow, Kii looked
like an excited child with a wonderfully brilliant idea, kind of like the
Kontiki!
I will search for a more suitable location little one, the one
known as 'Professor' declared, in the mean time, he admonished, try
not to make these children seem too human. It scares humans.
Ep 12, Chapter 7
As per the requirements of the contract, the animals were taken
by transport to another island in groups of twelve where they were put
through paces.
Missy went with them however, and she also inspected the
older animals who were in some cases already serving at posts.
Many of them had a hard time not acting like cats when they
saw her since they missed their people so much.
Missy patted them and talked to them and gathered as much
information on them as possible.
The biggest complaint any of them had was the sheer boredom
of their off hours.
There was a lot of space and a lot of vegetation they knew of
on each island they patrolled, but they were confined to the perimeters.
They were there to 'look for enemy invaders, not for rats and
mice' as their commanding officers dictated.
They would some times get to play soccer with the soldiers and
204

they would often beat the soldiers despite their shorter legs because
they had the agility and coordinated abilities of their secret telepathic
communication, but since the game was designed all around the
human physique, some things like long range kicking a ball were just
too difficult for them so they had to resort to close in swatting of the
ball and intensive passing.
To swat a ball past a goalie from less than three meters is really
demanding.
Also, swatting a ball required it own set of skills because claws
affected the way the ball handled and the soft padding of the paws did
as well.
Humans wore hard, smooth, easily controlled shoes and
therefore always had the same surfaces time and time again, whereas
going from a hard spiky claw to a soft furry paw always changed the
dynamics of the game.
The games were intense and often times the cats would lose
control of the ball and have to run very hard down field only to have to
stop suddenly, which some times led to them tumbling, or occasionally
hitting a human player and getting a foul.
Still, being cats, the game was so much like playing with one's
prey, it was endless amusement for them in the way a ball of yarn
would be to a house cat.
Between patrols, firing on targets and playing soccer, the
fielded squads were certainly getting ample exercise and their overall
endurance and muscle tone had greatly improved over their days of
laying around in the apartment's cold damp interior.
Some missed the cool peaceful hours, while others were glad to
be away from it.

205

This showed Missy how much they each one had their own
personalities.
One male seemed to have developed a liking for not one but
two of the soldiers and was often around them getting petted.
You don't 'LIKE' like them, Missy asked mentally, like
Leslie and Samantha?
The cat affirmed that he liked them as people but that the act of
mating seemed somewhat awkward.
To the cat, they were just much more pleasant to be around
than the other humans, but yes he felt a sort of fondness toward them
which was somehow different than how he felt about Missy and the
other researchers too.
He would sit and listen to them talk and grumble a response if
they asked him anything.
They seemed to have a rudimentary understanding of the cat
and he likewise understood them as well.
He even confessed that they had shared something called 'beer'
with him on several occasions when others were not watching.
He deeply enjoyed beer and he deeply enjoyed their company.
Wow. Missy remarked as she took notes, This is deep!
Ep 12, Chapter 8
Great. Janice stated flatly as she read the report, We now
have both a lesbian couple and a gay alcoholic with two human
drinking buddies.

206

Don't make it sound so hateful! Missy griped and swatted the

director's shoulder.
Yeah, Janice sipped her tea, It does sound pretty scandalous
when I put it in those exact words, huh? she made sure to edit her
remarks to not put anything in a negative light.
Okay so we can say that, 'We have one definitive couple, and
one animal who has developed an advanced level of camaraderie and
loyalty to the soldiers he works with'. she read it form the screen,
How does that sound?
That sounds a lot better. Missy purred, then wrapped her arm
around the director and stroked her shoulder.
Hmmm. Janice remarked, Kinda like us, huh.
Yup! Kii beamed.
Well, Missy said, clearly we're in a different situation,
looking intently at the smallest researcher, seeing as we have all the
REAL social stigmas to deal with, unlike these kitties we take care of.
Don't be so sure. Janice replied, looking down at the keys of
the computer, They may just be collecting information so they can
prove how unappealing this project really is. she sighed and looked
up toward the distant edge of the tent where it met the ceiling and said,
They already had us marked for extinction not too long ago, never
think that its all fine and dandy just because they're acting like this
today.
Well what am I SUPPOSED to do? Missy asked, Treat them
like they are still mindless animals and leave out every bit of their
behavioral activities to make them seem like its not even happening?
I do my best to limit all remarks to a more rudimentary level
207

of thinking. Kii answered the question, I do my best to leave out the

human aspects and leave it all at a basic animal level of reasoning.
You must leave a LOT out then! Missy cried.
Oh, Kii shrugged, then grinned mischievously, about ninety
nine percent of it.
Ep 12, Chapter 9
The mission commander finally got up enough nerve to come
visit their new base, or so it would have seemed.
He did not openly say at first why he was suddenly here.
Nor did he explain why there was an amphibious transport
unloading unrequisitioned materials onto the beach, including a jeep
and several barrels of fuel.
He had a compliment of personal guards, although he was
rather aware that in all likelihood, this would not help him if the
mysterious professor were to come back.
Long time no see Major. Janice greeted the nervous officer as
she stood just inside her tent looking out on the commotion which had
disturbed their peaceful island reverie.
I trust you are doing well here? the man nervously responded
as he strode up extending his hand as a formal gesture.
If you mean 'is research proceeding?', then yes Major. the
director replied flatly, taking his hand just long enough to complete the
social transaction before releasing it and backing into the tent out of
the afternoon heat, but if you are asking, 'don't you miss your nice
soft, fluffy air conditioned bed with all the other fineries of modern
living?' then I would have to say... she pursed her lips with an ever so
208

slightly sour expression and looked around as if looking to see if

anybody else was looking, that would be a 'yes' as well. then she
looked away in all directions as if to see the size of the area the two of
them were filling.
So in other words, the major offered, pulling up a folding
chair which was hanging from a rack to one side of the room,
unfolding it and sitting it beside her desk, 'As good as can be
expected under the conditions'.
You could say that, sir. she remained distant, This is not
how I intended our research to proceed, she pointed out, and it
needn't have gone in this direction had your people not... she twisted
her mouth in a manner as to show that she need not say the rest.
She stood to pour tea from a chilled decanter.
I don't make the- he began.
I know - 'you just follow them'. Janice cut him off, placing a
cool cup before him, You COULD have turned a blind eye -
Too late for regrets Doctor, he took his turn at cutting her off,
we're here and this is how it is.
You say 'we'...? she eyed the major suspiciously.
Yes, yes, he sighed, wringing his interlaced fingers and
wrapping them against the table in the tent, looking around perturbed,
you see, he sighed, as of this moment, he pulled out a packet of
papers with his own name on them, we seem to share the same fate.
Ep 12, Chapter 10
NO FRIKKIN WAYYYY!!! Missy cried, or more exactly
roared, clamping her head with her hands in anguish, dropping her
209

notebook on the desk.

Ouch...? Janice winced clasping her sensitive ears.
He CAN'T be here! she whined in anguish, Why would they
DO that to us?!
Because they hate us. Kii replied glumly, tracing circles on
the screen of her own notebook.
Apparently they're not too terribly fond of him either. Janice
pointed out.
Well why send him HERE though? Missy pleaded.
Apparently so he can keep a closer eye on us. Janice replied.
But...but... she seemed at a loss for the energy to complete
the sentence, to be STATIONED here...Whyyyyyyyy?
Your guess is better than mine dear. Janice replied, I can
only surmise that they feel that to keep us from doing anything that we
can hide and cover up, they made sure that the only way he was going
to make it out of this alive was if he kept us on a tight leash.
Is that what his orders said? Kii asked.
Well... she tipped her head both ways while wrinkling her
mouth, In so many words, yeah.
That sucks. Kii grumbled.
And he has this frikkin jeep here now too. Missy said, Is he
going to go driving all over the island turning it into a trash heap after
all these years the island has been trying to erase the past markings of
mankind?
210

I told him that this was a nature preserve and that the local
animals are endangered and that if he so much as scratched a sea turtle
I would be forced to report it as an international incident, she sighed,
so all I can say to that is 'we shall see'.
I hope he leaves that thing to just sit and rust. Missy
grumbled, The last thing we need is to have some power crazy MAN
running all over this little island turning it into another war zone.
Don't get your hopes up. Janice warned, He's in just about a
big enough pickle already that he may no longer care what else
happens.
I should go sabotage that thing. Kii remarked.
Don't get us in any more trouble little one. Janice pointed a
finger at her.
Those guards are going to stay as well? Missy asked.
They're here at least until the next supply ship, Janice
replied, the major said he will decide how safe he feels around the
cats before he determines if any or all of them stay.
I'll be sure to hold a conference with Duwayne on this first
thing. Missy declared, This place is too crowded already.
Well ladies, Janice shrugged, in the mean time, get used to
being stared at a lot by twenty lonely young men.
Missy sighed and threw her hands up in the air, Well there
goes my bikini wearing days.
