Transforming Initiative 1: Implement instructional lessons and activities
that enhance student learning through problem-based/project-based learning,
utilization of critical thinking skills, and the integration of 21st Century skills
into instructional practices.
The instructional model of passively learning facts and reciting them out of context is no
longer sufficient to prepare student to survive in todays world. Solving highly complex
problems requires that students have both fundament skills (reading, writing, and math)
and 21st Century skills (teamwork, problem solving, research gathering, time
management, information synthesizing, and utilizing technology tools). With this
combination of skills, students become directors and managers of their learning process,
guided and mentored by skilled teachers.
