SECOND READING

COMMUNION RITE
THE LORDS PRAYER. (The couple remains kneeling, the congregation standing)

Reader:

Priest:

At the Saviors command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Priest and People:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil.

A Reading from the Letter to the Colossians (3,12-17)

You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Be tolerant
with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone
else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you. And to all these qualities
add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity. The peace that Christ gives is to guide
you in the decisions you make; for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one
body. And be thankful, Christs message in all its richness must live in your hearts. Teach and
instruct one another with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns and sacred songs; sing to God with
thanksgiving in your hearts. Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the
Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father.
The Word of the Lord.

THE NUPTIAL BLESSING

Priest (addressing the congregation): Dear brothers and sisters, let us humbly pray to the Lord that on
these his servants, now married in Christ, he may mercifully pour out the blessing of
his grace and make of one heart in love (by the Sacrament of Christs Body and
Blood) those he has joined by a holy covenant.

People: Thanks be to God.

Pause for silent prayer.

Commentator: Let us all stand

Priest (with hands extended over the couple):

O God, who by your mighty power created all things out of
nothing and, when you had set in place the beginnings of the universe, formed man
and woman in your own image, making the woman an inseparable helpmate to the
man, that they might no longer be two, but one flesh, and taught that what you were
pleased to make one must never be divided.
O God, who consecrated the bond of Marriage by so great a mystery that in
the wedding covenant you foreshadowed the Sacrament of Christ and his Church;
O God, by whom woman is joined to man and the companionship they had
in the beginning is endowed with the one blessing not forfeited by original sin nor
washed away by the flood.
Look now with favor on these your servants, joined together in Marriage,
who ask to be strengthened by your blessing. Send down on them the grace of the
Holy Spirit and pour your love into their hearts, that they may remain faithful in
Marriage covenant.
May the grace of love and peace abide in your daughter N., and let her
always follow the example of those holy women whose praises are sung in the
Scriptures. May her husband entrust his heart to her, so that, acknowledging her as
his equal and his joint heir to the life of grace, he may show her due honor and
cherish her always with the love that Christ has for his Church.
And now, Lord, we implore you: may these your servants hold fast to the
faith and keep your commandments; made one in the flesh, may they be blameless in
all they do; and with the strength that comes from the Gospel, may they bear true
witness to Christ before all; (may they be blessed with children, and prove themselves
virtuous parents, who live to see their childrens children).
And grant that, reaching at last together the fullness of years for which they
hope, they may come to the life of the blessed in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.

ACCLAMATION 1 Jn 4, 12
People:

Alleluia, alleluia.
If we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is brought to
perfection in us.
Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL
Priest:
People:

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Priest:
People:

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (19,3-6)

Glory to you, O Lord.

Priest:

Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and tested him, saying, Is it lawful for a man to
divorce his wife for any cause whatever? He said in reply, Have you not read that
from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two
shall become one flesh?. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what
God has joined together, man must not separate.
The Gospel of the Lord.

People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

(Priest:

Through the words of the Gospel, may our sins be wiped away.)

People:

Amen.

PREFACE
Priest:

Priest (to couple): Now, please say after me:

Priest and Couple:

Grant us, O Lord, to be one heart and one soul, from this day
forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in
health, until death do us part.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you
thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you have forged the
covenant of marriage as a sweet yoke of harmony and an unbreakable bond of
peace, so that the chaste and fruitful love of holy Matrimony may serve to increase
the children you adopt as your own. By your providence and grace, O Lord, you
accomplish the wonder of this twofold design: that, while the birth of children brings
beauty to the world, their rebirth in Baptism gives increase to the Church, through
Christ our Lord.
Through him, with the Angels and all the Saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as
without end we acclaim:

People:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your
glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the
Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

BLESSING OF THE ARRHAE

Priest:

Roland and April, we shall now bless your arrhae.

Priest (Blessing of the arrhae):

Bless, O Lord, these arrhae, so that your servants, Roland
and April, may enjoy sufficiency of material possessions, which these arrhae
symbolize, for them to use to attain eternal life, through Christ our Lord.
People:

Amen.

Priest:

Now the Groom gives the arrhae to the Bride.

UNIVERSAL PRAYER (Standing)

Priest (addressing the congregation): My brothers and sisters, let us now pray for the Church and for
our newly-wedded couple, whose marriage reflects the Churchs union with
Christ.
Leader:

For the Holy Church, spread all over the world, for its leaders and for the rulers of
our nation; let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

The Groom takes the arrhae in both hands. The Bride places her cupped hands under those of the Groom.
The Groom lets the arrhae fall into the hands of the Bride, saying after the priest:

Leader:

Roland:

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

I give you these arrhae as a pledge of my dedication to your welfare.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

April (after the priest): And I accept them.

The Bride places the arrhae on the tray.

THE CREED when prescribed (Standing)

Priest and People:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things
visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of
God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all
things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and
by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he
was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again
on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and
the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in
one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to
come. Amen.

Leader:

For the poor and the sick, and for all those in trial and affliction; let us pray to the
Lord.

For Roland and April, that he may keep their hearts united forever; let us pray to the
Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Leader:

That he may protect them from evil, lighten their burdens and fortify them in their
trials; let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Leader:

That he may stir up the grace of the Sacrament in all the married couples here
present; let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Priest:

People: Amen.

Almighty, eternal God, look down with favour upon your servants. Grant them to
remain faithful to you and to one another. At the end of a long and well spent life,
reward them with eternal happiness, together with their children and with all those
who love them. Through Christ our Lord.
