SNAP 2012 Analysis

Now we will have a look at the detailed section wise analysis
of SNAP 2012.

The Verbal Ability or the English Usage questions were on

the following topics:
F

Quantitative & Data Interpretation

This was the easiest section in the entire exam. However,
there were some Data Interpretation sets, which were tricky
in nature. The topics in this section from which the questions
arrived were as follows:
F Data Analysis
F Geometry
F Variance
F Logs
F Time and Distance
F Percentage

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

The total number of questions in the Analytical & Logical
Reasoning section was 30. Each question had 2 marks which
made the total number of questions 60. This was the toughest
section in the SNAP 2012 paper. The topics of the section
from which the questions were asked are as follows:
F Coding-Decoding
F Letter-Series
F Venn diagram
F Cubes
F Facts Inference Judgment (FIJ)
F Blood Relations
F Double Line Distribution
F Odd Man Out
F Verbal Analogy

General English
The number of questions in this section was 40 and the
marks for this question was 40, i.e. 1 mark for each question.
The section was a mix of Verbal Abilities and Reading Comprehension. There was 1 Reading Comprehension passage.
The passage was simple to comprehend and the questions
were direct and easy too.

14

Vocabulary Synonyms, Antonyms, Substitute, Sentence Equivalence

English Grammar Active & Passive Voice, Parts of Speech,
Punctuation

General Awareness
The General Awareness section had 40 questions and had
1 mark for each question. The difficulty level of the section
was easy. The questions were mostly on current affairs. Static
GK questions were also there. The Current Affairs questions
were on sports, advertisements and brands, personalities,
business, politics etc. The static GK questions were on
Indias Constitution, History, Geography, Economics etc.

Preparation Tips
If you have prepared for CAT 2014, IIFT 2014 and XAT
2014 exams, then taking SNAP will not be of much difficulty.
As you can see, the sections and the topics of questions or the
SNAP 2014 syllabus are similar to the other MBA entrance
exams. The General Awareness section is common for IIFT
and XAT as well so a common preparation will suffice.
Taking mock tests regularly, say twice a week will provide
you enough practice. While taking the tests, make sure that
they are time bound. Choose your questions carefully so that
they are not much time consuming and ensure accuracy of
the questions you are attempting.
The overall difficulty level of the exam is much easier compared to the exams like CAT, XAT and IIFT hence you need
not worry about getting very tough questions to solve. Still it
is better to be prepared for the toughest than be overconfident about your preparation.

30-35 minutes)
Like SNAP 2013, most questions in Quantitative Ability
section were fairly easy. The section was dominated by Arithmetic, particularly Work Pipes and Cisterns, Time Speed
Distance, Percentages, Averages and Ratios. Additionally
there were also questions on Geometry, and Modern Math,

of types Permutation & Combination (only simple questions

using Fundamental Principle of Counting), Set Theory and
Venn Diagrams. There was no question on Data Sufficiency.
Most of the questions were solvable within less than a
minute. However one question set on Time Speed Distance
with three questions was fairly tough and time consuming.

25-27 questions with 85-90% accuracy.

This section contained a good mix of questions from Coding, Sequences, Data Interpretation and Verbal Reasoning. There were two Data Interpretation caselets involving
tables, containing two questions each. One DI set was of
moderate level of difficulty and had close options. The other
caselet was easy. However, some students reported that one
of the questions had multiple correct alternatives. There
was one caselet with three questions on Venn diagrams. The
questions were straight-forward but the wording of the questions was somewhat ambiguous. There was one question on
Visual Reasoning and two Verbal Reasoning questions on
Syllogisms which were easy. Overall, this section was easy
to moderate level of difficulty and was easier than that of last
year SNAP.
A good number of attempts for the AR-LR section would be

25-30 MINS)
Unlike the previous years, this section had two RC passages
- one of about 400 words with 4 questions and the other of
about 800 words with 3 questions. The first passage was
philosophical and tried to persuade the reader that ill temper
is one of the most destructive elements in nature, but the
questions were simple enough. There were two direct and
simple questions here and one easy vocabulary question and
one medium vocabulary question. The other passage had a
purpose based and a tone based question, which were of a
medium level, and one easy direct question.

New Final Selection Procedure: WAT Replaces GE

In the past years, the candidates had to appear for Group
Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds separately for the institutes in which they were shortlisted. This year
onwards, SNAP selection criteria have undergone change.
The GE round will be replaced with Written Ability Test
(WAT) and the WAT-PI round will be common. Speaking
on this changed procedure, Dr. Rajani Gupte, VC, SIU says,
The decision was primarily towards more transparency and
also to be a student friendly University. Also we had done an
in-depth study from SNAP aspirants as to what would help
the aspirants towards a seamless, transparent and efficient
process. We have already implemented the Common Registration process and are geared up for all the subsequent
steps.

Computation of the Final Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared by the institutes individually on the basis of the following formulae:
