Impressionable Young Shoggoth

A Weird Class/Race Option for Labyrinth Lord

Requirements:
Prime Requisite:
Hit Dice:
Maximum Level:

CHAR 9 or better
INT 10 or less
CON
1d8*
10**

Impressionable Young Shoggoths are the recentlybudded spawn of drastically unfathomable primordial
beings who are older than most other species, civilizations or even some forms of geology.

Malleable & Adaptable

Shoggoths in general and their young in particular are

incredibly plastic in the most unwholesome manner
imaginable as their foul flesh can assume nearly any
shape or configuration, extrude feelers or sense organs,
open new mouths or extend fresh limbs or manipulators
at will from any part of their body. This is equivalent
to the combined effects of a permanent Polymorph Self
and True Seeing spell that cannot be dispelled.

Durable

Young-Bud Shoggoths begin with the base Saves of a

10th level fighter, which will improve by one further
step for every level they gain in their class progression.

Sustainable

Even though they start out with only 1d8 for initial hit
points, Young Shoggoths that are reduced to zero hp
still regenerate 1d4 hp/round, even if submerged in
acid, burned beyond recognition, reduced to a slimeslick, or eaten by a major demon.

Impressionable

Young Shoggoth flesh is a lot like silly putty and

has a 40% chance of reproducing any scroll that
gets mushed into it, with an additional 10% chance
that the spell becomes lodged in the Impressionable
Young Shoggoths brainsystem, effectively making
them multi-classed as a fighter/spell-caster.

Trust Issues

All shoggoths are immune to the effects of Detect

Lie. this might have something to do with how their
praeterhuman brainsystems are arranged, but that too
could be just another lie...

A Taste for Learning

The more brains that an Impressionable Young Shoggoth can consume, the smarter they can get -- in
roughly human terms. Their innate shoggoth intelligence is too alien and unspeakably convoluted in
ways that our language cannot even begin to measure or compare it. For every 1d30 human (or demihuman, humanoid, etc.) brains that they devour, the
Young Shoggoth gains 1 point that they can add to
either their INT or WIS for the next 1d12 hours.

Yeasty After-Taste

Whether they inject their bud-spores directly into

a wound, or if they dribble some into a canteen as
a joke, Young-Bud Shoggoths spread their hyperparasitic spores everywhere they go like life is one
big Frat party...

Theyll be back.
Whenever reduced to zero hp, there is a base 30%
chance that the Young Shoggoths tender brainsystem
will reset itself in response to the trauma and it will
either assume a new personality/class (losing all memories/experience gained previously), or it might lose all
interest in humanity and get on with the sorts of things
adult shoggoths busy themselves doing.
How this is handled is best left to GM discretion...
