Name
Martin Iglesias
2. Programme and Year of Study
BSc Economics 1st Year
3. 3 targeted posts in order of preference
Senior Vice President, Vice President for Special Projects, Marketing Director
4. Relevant past experience (including, if possible, contributions to the society)
As a founder of Spanish Club in my previous college, getting it to the point 20 students were attending
depended upon my initial marketing push. I build a system that was based on the use of mnemonics,
word games and mobile-apps that gamified the learning process, developing a style of teaching that
was productive in a 45-minute session. Founding a club that continues to work and grow in my
absence underlines my commitment to the projects I embark on.
I gained invaluable insights as an intern in the Argentine Stock Exchange. As one of 15 selected
candidates amongst a cohort of 1000 other applicants. My work mainly consisted in analysing and
documenting figures on agricultural futures, and also running formulas into Edexcel Spreadsheets.
This gave me a solid sense of numbers in the trading world, together with all the training I had to
undertake on analysing and producing statements. I was actually commended by the overall treasurer
at the end of the internship for plugging a 2k hole in other accountants work this experience is
evidence of my background in and passion for the Financial Services Industry.

5. Manifesto/plans for the first preference position only

My Manifesto:

To improve the way in which we currently market ourselves to the rest of the university
and recruiters

To become a university-wide portal and blog for financial information and news

How I plan to do it:

SPONSORSHIP
My Pledge: To significantly increase the amount of money we are raising
What we currently do:

I recognise year on year we canvas all the top corporate firms whether Big 4/Bulge
Bracket or otherwise through phone calls emails, meetings and with some top line data of
our worth to them

What I would do differently:

Gather data available in the public domain (Google searches and published data) to
establish what an LSE Graduate is worth and what they go on to do on average

Gather additional data from the careers service and any historical records I have access
to narrow down this down to members of the LSE Finance Society

Synthesise the data to quantitatively outline how well LSE Finance Society students do
compared with the average LSE Student, which in turn could be compared with the
average Red Brick Student as well

Use this as a tool that will outlive my tenure for the society to raise more money when we
can prove why we are worthy of top sponsorship.

RECRUITMENT
My Pledge: To raise our number of non-finance members
What we currently do:

Rely upon historical and current reputation as one of largest societies. Flyers, sending e-mails
out. Assume (accurately so) students related to finance will join us.

What I would do differently:

Gather data that pertains to historically successful Arts/Social Sciences students that had
some level of involvement in the Financial Society

Create a showcase/ poster image of the successes these outliers have had

Use them to execute segmented marketing for all non-finance students to drive increased
numbers of students from non-traditional subjects joining our society.

WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK GROUP

My Pledge: To put us on the road towards becoming a respected website throughout this and other
universities for financial advice
What we currently do:

Offer very high-level information pertaining to careers advice. Have a mission statement. List
our sponsors. Keep a sparsely updated calendar. Provide contact info. Publish The Analyst
once per month.

What I would do differently:

Start an onsite blog. To comment upon new affairs. Recently this would be the launch of the
ECBs bond-buying scheme or even the unpegging of the Swiss-Franc. Development of fintech industry, commenting on the WhatsApp Buyout. All excellent information for careers
preparation for anyone.

Use it as a tool for inbound marketing to developing an e-mail list. Imagine having 500
members but an e-mail list of 10,000 who receive our updates. Our sponsorship could
increase appreciably.

Add some videos to the website. We could reach out to successful interns currently in their 3 rd
or 2nd year and perform brief interviews on the application process, their experiences, tips and
hacks.

Note: figures quoted about the society with regards to the composition of members in the Finance
Society, number of subscribers to e-mail lists are hypothetical and are only there for the sake of
explaining each point. If any other fact of the society is wrong too please do not take it literally.
Thanks.

6. List of other possible commitments

I am an avid reader of financial news and keep myself up to date with the market trends, so I
would be glad to collaborate with The Analyst if there is still a demand for writers. Applying
this to a (possible) new LSE SU Finance Societys Blog is another commitment I would
undertake, if elected for this position.
