Illia Dakal

BSc in Economics, started October 2014

Standing for:
Vice President for Events (not interested in anything else)
Relevant past experience:
- A member of the Finance Society Events division since the beginning of the year. Our team has
significantly contributed to success of the Society this year, always securing high turnouts and
guaranteeing the satisfaction of our sponsors. Our biggest triumph was the FINCA Microfinance
event, which was competing with a Goldman Sachs and UBS events on the same day. Due to clever
marketing and some insightful ideas, we still managed to attract 70 attendees in a weeks time;
- Started up an own company at school as part of the Young Enterprise Programme and performed as
its Managing Director. I was in control of all of the departments, and lead a team of 12 executives. I
was in charge of organising 9 events, which would serve as venues for selling our company products.
The largest event was the biggest yet Christmas Fair at my school, which was attended by 455 people
and 18 local entrepreneurs, who all had a stall at the fair;
- Hold the position as Events Officer in the LSESU Ukrainian Society. I helped to organise a lecture
with a famous Ukrainian public figure Sviatoslav Vakarchuk and was in charge of advertising the
event to academic departments and students at LSE. The event was a huge success and was eventually
oversubscribed. We had attendees from all around London and there was not a single free space in
Hong-Kong theatre on the day.
All of the experience above would enable me to ensure a smoothly running series of Finance Society
events next year. My leadership skills would especially help me to lead the Events division and its
teams, so that top quality service is provided to the Finance Society members and sponsors.
Manifesto:
Slogan: Knowledge, diversity, fun!
- My top priority would be the organisation of more seminars and workshops for our members, which
would serve as a learning platform for gaining and developing new skills. The Mission Statement of
the Society promises to raise the level of financial literacy on campus, but the emphasis is currently
put on networking events and company presentations. I strongly believe that there has to be a
balanced approach and various case studies and professional classes have to bridge the gap between
expertise of the sponsors and interest of the members;
- My second priority would be the expansion of the societys target market by offering more
alternative events, such as the FINCA Microfinance talk or LGBT Oliver Wyman event, which
happened this year. As the aim of the Society is to offer a wide-range of information, which enhances
the members ability to choose the right career, such events would not only broaden the horizons of
existing members, but also attract new members and sponsors;
- Finally, I would like to promote the social aspect of the Finance Society by organising more
informal events for our members. It cannot be forgotten, that as professional and career-orientated as
it is, Finance Society is a student-run body. Sometimes it could be more useful for the members to

exchange their knowledge in a more informal atmosphere. Whether its a pub, a bowling club or even
a paintball game, such events might give the current members more insight into the financial industry
than a traditional Q&A session. The Society has already held coffee chats with some companies, but I
believe that such events have a lot of potential!
List of other possible commitments;
-Ukrainian Society
- Salsa Society
