Existing features

Provides an intuitive, simple, and easy to use graphical user interface (GUI).

Collects SAN information, such as Fibre Channel (FC) switch details, Host Bus Adaptor (HBA)
details, and Storage Array Connectivity information, by logging in to the FC switches.

Sends raw data collected by SAN Visibility to HP (sent automatically by the SAN Visibility
software or sent manually). A processed report is generated on receipt of the data file.

Sends processed reports containing SAN topology diagram, device inventory, high level SAN
summary, HBA-Host mapping details, and recommendations in HTML or Microsoft Excel format.

Allows data collection from the FICON enabled switches.

Supports FCoE (Fibre Channel over Ethernet) switches.

Provides report on FICON supported devices in your SAN using IOCP file.

Supports data collection from NPIV configured switches.

Supports data collection from switches configured with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)
addresses.

Provides an option to filter the type of SAN components you want to view in your processed
report.

Provides an option to customize the SAN device labels that you want to view in the processed
report (topology diagram).

Simplifies initial SAN implementation and helps reduce SAN infrastructure cost and complexity.

Provides an option to schedule data collection on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Provides an option to compare SANs and generate compared reports.

Supports physical host discovery of HP-UX, RHEL, SUSE, HyperV, VMware ESX, and Microsoft
Windows. Also supports virtualization by discovering virtual machines associated with HyperV
and VMware ESX.

Detects host operating system details and the details of the HBA attached to the host.

Provides XP firmware recommendations for XP storage devices in the report.

Supports data collection from Microsoft windows hosts configured with Internet Protocol version
6 (IPv6) addresses.

Provides support for 3PAR, P9500, P6500 and P6300 storage systems.

Send Logs provides a way to quickly send the logs with a click of a button.

Mail acknowledgement to senders email id informs the customer about the processed report
sent to the mail id mentioned in SV GUI.

Check for SDG Fabric non-adherence run through captured SAN information and tries
analyzing it for any potential SDG non-adherence and generate recommendations in the
processed report based on the output of the non-adherence check.

SAN components compatibility check analyzes compatibility for the SAN components available
in the report.

Prerequisites
Following are the prerequisites to install and run HP Storage SAN Visibility:

Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 is required to view the HTML report.

To use the HP Storage SAN Visibility 6.0 software, following are the necessary applications
that must be installed on a host where HP Storage SAN Visibility is installed:

32-bit JRE, v1.5 or v1.6 is required to install HP Storage SAN Visibility.

Brocade SMI-Agent (120.6.0 a) installed for SMI-S based data collection. For more
information, see the SMI-Agent user guide.
NOTE: Brocade SMI-Agent installation is not mandatory for SAN Visibility data collection.
If Brocade SMI-Agent is not installed, then the collection takes place through SNMP (and
Brocade APIs). For more information, see the HP Storage SAN Visibility 6.0 User Guide.

WMI Mapper must not be installed before installing HP Storage SAN Visibility. If WMI
Mapper is installed before installing HP Storage SAN Visibility then, HP Storage SAN
Visibility's installation does not proceed and displays the following message and aborts
the installation:
The Installer found an instance of WMI Mapper running on this
machine. Installing HP Storage SAN Visibility may affect other
HPs product. Please install HP Storage SAN Visibility on machine
where WMI Mapper is not installed.

SSH (or Secure SHell) based data collection is supported only for Brocade switches with
firmware version 4.0 and later.

Prerequisites

Supported Operating Systems for Installation/Upgradation

Microsoft Windows system with any of the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard or Enterprise edition with Service Pack 2

Microsoft Windows XP Professional edition with Service Pack 2

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2

Microsoft Windows 7

Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2 (x86)

NOTE: For installing SAN Visibility on a system running on Microsoft Vista, do one of
the following:

Disable User Account Control (UAC) on the system. For more information on how to
disable UAC, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709691.aspx.

Known issues
Following are the known issues and limitations in this release of SAN Visibility:

Port module type and license information are not available for Brocade switches through
SMI-S.

CISCO 9020 switches do not report connected switches, IP gateway and correct sensor value.

License information and FC address are not available for Cisco and McData switches.

FC address and IP Gateway information are not available for Brocade switches.

Firmware version and sensor information is not available for the Brocade multi protocol router
(AP7420).

IP Gateway, FC address, fan status and license information are not available for Qlogic
switches.

SAN Visibility does not support Admin Domain for Brocade switches. If Admin Domains are
configured in the switch, zone related information may not report correctly.

SMI-S based data collection may return some invalid characters in the description for the HBA
driver and the Array Firmware.

HP Storage 8/20q and QLogic switches returns same World Wide Name (WWN) for all the
connected switches in a fabric, when SNMP Proxy parameter is set to "True" (default value).
To resolve this issue, change the SNMP proxy parameter to "False" before initiating switch
data collection. For more information on how to change SNMP proxy settings, see the
Troubleshooting section of the HP Storage SAN Visibility 6.0 User Guide.

SAN Visibility does not support IPv6 data collection for a QLogic switch.

Brocade switches running FOS6.2.0a may not report attached device properly, resulting SAN
Visibility not being able to correctly categorize connected switches.

Qualification of host discovery/data collection in IPv6 environment is not done in HP Storage

SAN Visibility 6.0.

In case of host discovery and data collection, collecting data from the host where HP Storage
SAN Visibility 6.0 is installed may not collect HBA related data always. For such host, the
processed report may not have completed the compatibility analysis.
To resolve this issue, HP Storage SAN Visibility 6.0 tool can be installed on a different host,
and then the host under question can be targeted for discovery and data collection.

Reports generated from HP Storage SAN Visibility 5.1 or earlier, may have all the components
under "Incomplete Data" in "Compatibility Analysis" link.

In the HP Storage SAN Visibility processed report in Excel format, you may observe formatting
issues on data entries in cells in the Recommendations sheet. The text may not be clearly
visible since the cell width is not proportional to the cells content, though the data is present,
and can be viewed by clicking on the cell. If this issue is seen, as a workaround, select HTML
as the report format during the data collection.

Limitations
Following are the limitations in this release of SAN Visibility:

Host discovery and data collection with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is not supported on
non- Windows OS.

For physical and virtual hosts, only the mandatory details are displayed in the report.
The mandatory details of physical hosts are:

IP Address

Type of host

OS Information

Host name

Unique ID

HBA Port WWN

The mandatory details of virtual hosts are:

ESX

vmName

vm OSInformation

vm uuid

HyperV

vmName

vm uuid

SAN Visibility does not support explicit data collection from Cisco N_Port Virtualization (NPV)
mode switches and from HP 4Gb Virtual Connect Fibre Channel (VC-FC) module switches.
However, SAN Visibility can identify NPIV created by Cisco NPV and HP VC-FC mode switches
in a normal NPIV enabled FC switch.

Brocade switches running FOS6.2.0a may show improper NPIV device information from the
name server which may result SAN Visibility to incorrectly identify the physical and virtual
HBAs. In such cases, the workaround is to collect data using SMI-S.

Cisco FCoE switches at times may display incorrect Gateway IP address in the processed SAN
Visibility report.
Limitations

SFP Module Types for Cisco FCoE switches may display as Unknown or N/A in the processed
SAN Visibility report.

If SAN Visibility is unable to collect WWNN information for a SAN component, the comparison
and port details for that SAN component may be incorrect.
