Ans. Yes, drug addicts are aware of the dangers of drugs. They clearly know that excessive
use of drugs makes them mentally and physically sick. In spite of it, they continue using drugs
and make their reversal difficult or impossible.
Q. 2. What is the difference between genetic and environmental factors?
Ans. The genetic factors are related to metabolic, structural, and neuro-chemical malfunctions
in the brain whereas the environmental factors include the psychological issues of the drug
addict, his home conditions, and the social circle in which he lives.
Q.3. What do you understand by the term counselling?
Ans.Counselling is an advice given to an addict by an expert about his problem. It also
includes the advice of his family, friends or relatives.It plays a vital role inthe reversal of drug
abusers by making them live a healthy and useful life.

Ans.Rehabilitation centres strictly supervise the drug victims and provide complete medical
treatment and guidance to drug victims. They also provide proper counselling to these people
and their family members to bring them back to a happy and healthy life.

better it is for the victim. Usually the older people or the friends and family members of the
victim or experts counsel the addict and bring him back to a happy and healthy life.

Ans.In Pakistani society, drug addiction is considered a shameful act. People feel embarrassed
if any member of their family uses drugs. In addition, they have the fear of being declared an
outcast. That is why they try to hide the matter and feel reluctant to take the drug victims to
drug rehabilitation centres. Even, they consider it a taboo to talk about this problem with
others.
Q. 6. What are the responsibilities of the families to ensure complete recovery of such
patients?
Ans.The major responsibility for the treatment of drug addiction lies upon the families of such
patients. First of all, they should not consider it a taboo to discuss their problem with others.
Secondly, they should immediately take such patients to rehabilitation centres. Thirdly, they
should ensure that the patients are taking their medicine properly and regularly. Fourthly, they
should counsel the victims and try to keep them calm and contented. Lastly, they should
critically watch them and do not let them use the drugs again. In this way, they can bring such
patients back to a healthy life and ensure their complete recovery.
