(a)Given that the price of three pens and two copybooks is $16 and the price of two pens and four
copybooks is $24, find the price of one pen and the price of one copybook.
[4]
Let the price of one pen be p and the price of one copybook be c.
3p + 2c = 16
2p + 4c = 24
[1]
[1]
=8
p=2
[1]
2(2) + 4c = 24
4c = 20
c=5
[1]
Hence, the price of one pen is $2 and the price of one copybook is $5.
Penalize 0.5 for not having $ unit

2. An ice cream store sells two types of ice cream: strawberry and chocolate which cost $5 and $3.
On a cold day, the store sold 7 ice creams in total for $27.
A pair of simultaneous equations can be derived from the text above to solve for the number of
each type of the ice creams sold on the cold day.
One of the equations has been plotted on the graph above, where x and y represents the number
of strawberry and chocolate ice creams sold.
(a) On the graph above, plot and label, in the form of y = mx + c, the second equation.
[2]
If 5x+3y=27 seen, 0.5 mark.
1 mark for plot. 1 mark: y=-5x/3 +9
(b) By locating an appropriate point on the graph, state the number of each type of the ice
creams sold on the cold day.

Bonus Questions
Write down, with working steps, the solutions of the following question.
What can you say about the values of n that make 7 n + 3 n a multiple of 10?
[3]
Hence when the odd powers of 3 and 7 are added we get a zero as the last digit thus divisible by 10.
Hence when n is odd 3n+7n is divisible by 10.
+ 3 n, 1
+ 9 n, 3
