QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What is Q+?
Q+ is a series of AQUOS TVs. Q+ is the highest resolution Full HD TV. Q+ TVs deliver higher resolution with 10
million more subpixels than standard Full HD, to give you more detail, depth, and color.
Q+ TVs are also future-ready -- they can play 4K content via HDMI input. In fact, it is the only HDTV to accept a
4K signal -- and it will play back at near-4K resolution. (Effective resolution up to 3840x2160.)
Q+ TVs feature Sharps Revelation Upscaler, which takes all of your content and optimizes it for the higher
resolution screen, so that everything you watch, is sharper and more vivid.
Since Q+ TVs are built using Quattron technology, you can also experience the added benefit of a billion more
shades of color. While most flat-panel TVs use 3-subpixel colors, red, green, and blue, Quattron technology uses
4-subpixel colors.
The Q+ series will be available in 60, 70, and 80 class diagonal screen sizes.
What is Q+ technology?
Q+ technology divides each subpixel on the TV, increasing the number of subpixels to 16 million 10 million more
than standard Full HD for more detail, depth and color.
What is Quattron?
Exclusive Quattron technology provides a clearer, richer picture, and noticeably more detail and brightness by
adding 2 million subpixels to the standard screen.
Sharps proprietary Quattron technology incorporates a fourth yellow subpixel to the standard red, green and blue,
adding 2 million more subpixels than a standard HDTV. You get brighter yellows, deeper blues, and richer golds,
and it uses less power than a conventional Full HD 1080p TV.
Does Q+ TVs use Sharps Quattron color technology (Yellow subpixel)?
Yes, Q+ TVs are built using Quattron technology; you can also experience the added benefit of a billion more
shades of color. While most flat-panel TVs use 3-subpixel colors, red, green, and blue, Quattron technology uses
4-subpixel colors.
What is the resolution for a Q+ TV?
Q+ offers 10 million more subpixels than a standard Full HD and is able to take a 1920x1080 resolution screen and
make an effective resolution up to 3840x2160.
How do you achieve greater resolution on a Full HD TV?
Q+ TVs divides each Quattron subpixel in two, resulting in 16 million subpixels. Thats 10 million more subpixels
than a traditional Full HD TV. More subpixels = more detail. Content is intelligently scaled to take advantage of this
additional detail.
What are subpixels & why do they matter?
A subpixel is a colored dot on a TV screen. There are 6 million red, green, and blue subpixels that make up an
image on a conventional Full HD 1080p TV (1920 x 1080). Only Sharps Q TVs with exclusive Quattron technology
add 2 million yellow subpixels, for a total of 8 million subpixels, creating a more detailed, brighter picture, and more
accurate reproduction of the intended image. Q+ TVs split each Quattron pixel in half for an astounding 16 million
total subpixels - 10 million more than a conventional Full HD TV. As a result, Q+ TVs are able to take a 1920x1080
resolution screen and make an effective resolution up to 3840x2160.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

How can a pixel be divided into 2 pixels? How can you get a pixel without at least RGB?
For vertical resolution, Q+ TVs take each Quattron subpixel and splits it in two (top and bottom). This process
creates vertical resolution of 2160. To achieve an increased horizontal resolution, the process applies pixel
mapping in which the red and blue subpixels are shared between neighboring pixels, while green and yellow
subpixels, the brightest colors, are associated with unique pixels, maintaining their brightness.
Why does Sharp count subpixels instead of pixels? What good is a subpixel?
Q+ TVs individually control the Quattron (RGBY) subpixels to create more detail that is clearly visible to the viewer.
Counting subpixels is a clear measurement that shows that Q+ televisions have higher resolution and can display
more detail than any other Full HD TV.
Is Q+ for consumers who cant afford 4K?
Sharp sees market opportunity to offer a higher resolution product at a price closer to todays premium HD than
todays 4K TVs. Our goal is to provide a wide range of large screen choices to meet a wide range of consumer
needs.
And as 4K prices compress how with Q+ be positioned in the market?
Sharp has a multi-year plan in place for Q+ TVs. In the future Q+ TVs can be positioned as an affordable step up
from a 1080p set.
Is the Q+ THX certified?
Yes, the Q+ (UQ line) is certified by THX. Synonymous with great movie sound for decades, THX now sets the bar
for picture quality for the worlds top TV manufacturers. Thirty test categories, 200 bench tests and more than 400
data points ensure the best TVs make the cut. To achieve the coveted THX certification, every aspect of the Q+ (UQ
line) performance was analyzed by THX video engineers to ensure the filmmakers vision is perfectly recreated in
your home.
What does a THX 4K certification mean to the consumer?
THX Certification is an assurance of image quality and consistency, confirming that a display not only meets
industry performance guidelines, but that it maintains content accuracy true to the original HD image, as it was
finalized in the post-production studio -- as the director intended.
How many models of the Q+ are available and what is the difference between the multiple models of the
Q+?
The Q+ series will be available in two versions: the UQ and SQ. The UQ line will include three sizes (60, 70 and
80 class) and have premium features such as AquoMotion 960, THX certification, Super Bright technology and
a 15W sub-woofer with Bluetooth audio. The SQ line will be available in two screen sizes (60 and 70 class). All
Q+ models will include Sharps new SmartCentral 3.0 smart TV platform.
How many screen sizes are offered in Q+?
A larger screen makes the difference between TV and breathtaking TV. Available in 60, 70 and 80 class screen
sizes, each AQUOS Q+ model will show you every detail with more viewing area. Our 80 class offers an immersive
viewing experience with 14 percent more viewing area than a 75; while our 70 class TV makes things larger than
life with 14 percent more viewing area than a 65; and our 60 class TV gives you 20 percent more viewing area
than a 55.
