Anuban Weekly Outline

Plants

This week we are learning:

Circle Time Review
In circle time this week we will review living
and non-living things, especially focusing on
how plants are living things and all the
different types of plants and other static
living things eg: fungi (toadstools!). We will
review what living things need and do and
apply these things to plants and the parts of
the plants that we will study in activity time.
We will also use some circle time to
potentially grow some of our own plants and
dedicate time to this task each morning.

Activity Time
Plants booklet identifying the different parts of a plant and what they do;
identifying different types of plant and how they differ.
Germinating, planting and growing mung beans over a 2-3 week period
children must water the plants and make sure they have enough sunlight to
grow.
Making paper flowers.
Plant Life song (based on Parklife by Blur).
Making plant displays and exploring the interactive plant board.
Plants is a great topic to follow on from living and non-living things because we
have already been talking about plants as part of the previous topic and we can
continue to discuss the specific properties of plants, in particular the way that
they grow, as part of this. We will work through a booklet of information whilst
simultaneously working on physical projects that will help the students to
understand the information in real life.

P1 Preparation
(T. Mike)
Grammar
This week in grammar we are going
to do a review of the grammar
contained in the P1 preparation
booklet. We are going to do some
exercises from the white board that
the students will copy down into their
notebooks. The questions will cover
all topics the students have studied
this semester. We are going to then
play a game called bomb-gun where
students are split into five groups and
must choose a box from a grid drawn
onto the board. They must then
answer grammar based questions to
gain points for their team.

Parts of a plant stem, roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, trunk etc
Different types of plants trees, bushes, shrubs, flowers, grasses
How a plant grows sprout, germinate, grow
What a plant needs to grow water, sunlight, minerals in the soil.

Science

This week in science the class

will continue with materials.
They will be given a
homework assignment where
they will write down ten
household items and toys and
record what materials they are
made from. They will then
report back to the class. We are
then going to do some
exercises on materials in our
Science preparation booklets.
These exercises include
matching items to the materials
