GTR790 DYNAMIC PROBING / WINDOW SAMPLING RIG

This compact unit features dynamic probing procedures
following DIN and SPT/AFNOR standards as well as efficient
window sampling operations. Mounted on a rubber chain
crawler carriage it is able to negotiate inclinations up to 30
degrees and to handle nearly all-terrain ground conditions.
Since all functions are hydraulically assisted it is truly laid out
for one-man operation. Two lateral rod boxes and special
attachments carry all relevant accessories like rod extraction
jack, slips/ball clamps, tools etc. . The fact that all equipment
necessary for the field work is on the machine eliminates the
need for additional transport and consumption of time.
A folding mast allows very limited transport
dimension so the unit can be transported in
mid-size vans like Volkswagen T4 or similar.

The rig can be transported manually on robust pneumatic-tyred

wheels. At the probing point the mast is erected and is set up to the dead vertical position by means of two spindles and
an air bubble level.
Various rod systems according to local standards can be employed, a blow counter helps with taking the reading.
The conversion to light (DP-L), medium (DP-M) or heavy (DP-H) dynamic probing procedures is quickly achieved by
mounting or removing of additional drop weight bodies.
The drop weight assembly is lifted by means of a rope winch with hand crank.
For easy transportation in box-type vans, elevators etc. the foldable mast versions are recommendable.

Also for WINDOW SAMPLING up to 80 mm !

Sampling is carried out by using window sampling tubes or slotted probing
rods which are driven into the soil with the 50 kg drop weight at a drop height
of 50 cm.
For the extension the ordinary rods can be used.

This unit is powered by a reliable 4-stroke petrol engine which transmits ist revolutions through a
centrifugal clutch and a robust gearbox to the rotating chain integrated in the mast body. Thus the
unit is independent from other energy sources and can be operated everywhere.
The number of blows per minute (between 15 and 30) is controlled by adjusting the engine speed
at the throttle lever.

This unit is powerded by a hydraulic motor and features the

same specification as the preceeding LMSR-Vk units.
The hydraulic drive motor can be run on a separate hydraulic
power pack which at the same time serves to control the
extraction jack for rod pulling operations. Vehicle pumps or
other sources of hydraulic power can also be employed. A
special advantage of this version is the fact that during rod
change or similar the drop weight mechanism is lifted by
hydraulic power instead of using a hand crank.

This unit is driven by a Honda 4-stroke combustion engine which transmits ist power via a robust centrifugal
clutch/gearbox system to the rotating lifting chain. Therefor the rig can be operated independent from other
power sources. Blow rates from 15 to 25 blows pro Minute can be achieved by adjusting the throttle. The
foldable mast allows for easy transport; one person can erect the unit through an optimal weight distribution.
3 crank jacks provide the possibility of setting the mast in the correct vertical position even under ondulated
ground conditions and guarantee a stable standing position while working.

This unit is equipped with a directly flanged hydraulic motor driven by a separate hydraulic power
pack (optional).
The folding mast allows for easy transport; one person can erect the unit through an optimal weight
distribution.
Three hand crank jacks provide the possibility of setting the mast in the correct vertical position
even under unfavourable ground conditions. This Y-shaped foot guarantees a stable standing
position during probing operations.
Window sampling procedures up to 90 mm diameter can be effectively carried out without the
need of folding back or moving the unit.

SUPER HEAVY DYNAMIC PROBING RIG DP-G

( G = GIANT )
for super heavy dynamic probing and window sampling operations

This unit carries a mast guided drop weight of 200 kg at a drop height of 500 mm. Parted in single weight
bodies of 50 kg each it allows for 50 kg DP-H and 50, 100, 150 oder 200 kg drop weight window sampling
operations.
The mast can be hydraulically erected and laterally swiveled by means of a spindle. A vertical jack at the
mast joint sets up the machine on the mast foot and the two rubber chain crawler back ends giving a stable
three-point suspension while operating.
The mechanism to lift the drop weight follows the same principle as the field-proven smaller GEOTOOL
dynamic probing rigs. Moving of the drop weight carriage is achieved by a mechanic link to the chain/ chain
blocks.

The rig is designed to be quick-adjusted to carry out a variety of drilling procedures:

rotary drilling with up to 3.000 Nm or 250 U/min. max. (flight auger/HSA drilling, core drilling)

EDAS - Electronic Data Acquisition System

for dynamic probing and Compaction Testing operations
EDAS has been designed to read the number of blows
and the penetration rate for each blow while carrying
out dynamic probing or compaction testing procedures.
The battery powered unit memorizes the data and
allows for computer readout.
The originally used n10-values can be quite inaccurate
since for example n10 = 10 could mean 10 times 10
mm or 9 times 1 mm and one time 91 mm !
The system enables the user to work with higher
accuracy, to locate shearing planes etc. .
It is to be used in conjunction with hydraulically
powered, chain driven dynamic probing rigs.

Description
The system consists of three major components:
1.)
Sensor:
An incremental sensor is mounted on the rig which
reads the rotation of the drive chain in form of impulses. The unit is linked to the hydraulic motor/
sprocket by means of a flexible coupling inside a rigid metal protection cover.
2.)
Connection box LittleBox:
This metal clamp box connects the rig mounted sensor and motor cut-out cables and provides a
ready-made socket for the control unit cable. It is mounted at a protected location on the rig.
3.)
Control Unit BigBox:
A robust metal console (IP 65, see photo above) with key pad, illuminated LC- display and
pushbuttons carries all electronic components.
Borehole figures (No., date), rig factors (kind of probing, drop height, drop weight etc.) as well as
necessary inputs during the operation (for example rod change confirmation) are fed in by using
keys and pushbuttons.
An integrated automatic engine shut-off (autostop) function stops the rig motor either at a preset
max. depth or by pushbutton (emergency shut-off) control.
A transport case with battery charger and data readout connection cable to fit the PC is included in
the scope of delivery. All connection cable plugs and sockets are mechanically coded to avoid
mistakes.

ROD SYSTEMS and accessories

The GEOTOOL rod system
stands for a lightweight but strong probing rod
made from hollow, thick-walled high-tension steel
tube C 60 manufactured with precision tooling.
This guarantees absolute parallelity of rods and
thread nipples (studs) and accurate right-angle
end faces.
The rods feature marker grooves every 100 mm
for easy protocolling of N10 values and spanner
flats on both ends.
The studs are manufactured from high-quality
material and carry Allan type hexagonal socket
internal threds on both ends.

GEOTOOL supplies all relevant tools, driving

heads, sacrificial or fixed points, adaptors, etc. for
quick and safe work in conjunction with the rods.
