From Ashes to Easter

Ashes to Easter annual Lenten Mission

project has begun! Each family is
invited to pick up a special Mission
box. You may keep it on or near the
dining table in your home. Put in some

Return your Lent box to the UCC on Easter. Money collected will
help local missionaries and missionary projects from our diocese.

In what concrete ways are you living your faith

through service to others?

Today, Jesus tells us to Repent, and believe in the gospel. How

long has it been since your last Confession? Lent is the perfect time
to seek out this Sacrament. Why not make plans to go before Holy
Week?

A Word from Our Ministry Team

Reflection for the first Sunday of lent

This past Wednesday our foreheads were

marked with ashes as a sign of our faith and a
reminder to us that we are dust and to dust
we shall return. This reminder of our
mortality at the beginning of Lent calls us to
reflect on the lives we are leading and to
discern how we can improve upon our
relationship with God and with each other. God invites us to search
our hearts and discern what Lenten disciplines will help us to be
better followers of Jesus. Our call to fast, pray, and give alms
during this season of Lent works best when the three disciplines are
connected to each other. Ideally what we fast from should free us
to spend more time in prayer, spiritual reading, or service of
others. The money we may save from fasting from buying certain
things can be given to charities. Whatever we choose to do to mark
this time of Lent should help us arrive at our Easter goal of being
more aware of Gods love and mercy in our lives and better able to
love and forgive others. As St. Paul proclaimed to the Corinthians
in our Ash Wednesday reading, now is the acceptable time. May
we continue to pray for each other as we journey through this
season of Lent together.
God bless,
Fr. Ed Nowak, CSP
Director

Fr. Isaac Hecker Quote

FR. ISAAC HECKER QUOTE
The devout Christian who has learned to know
the Redeemer, comprehends the glory and
happiness of Christs love for us. Every feast in
Christs honor is celebrated with unspeakable
spiritual joy and devotion Every mystery of
Christ, every mercy, every title of honor,
every benefit, every effort of divine love
Fr. Isaac Hecker, Founder
which we adore forms a whole sequence of
of the Paulist Fathers
our redemption and justification. The
sacred name of Jesus presents to our minds the majesty and glory
of his divinity while at the same time we are aware of the
endearing charms of his sacred humanity. His name is the title of
his supreme majesty and dominion, his glorious victory over sin
while at the same time it is to us the expression of all graces and
blessings of which he is the inexhaustible source.
[Sermon on the Most Holy Name of Jesus]
If you have asked Fr. Hecker to pray for you or for another
person who was ill, and you believe something miraculous has
happened, please call Fr. Paul Robichaud, CSP, at
(202) 269-2519 and tell him your story.
