The RomancircusispartoftheProvincialForumanditisoneofthe bestpreservedcircus

centurybuildings.Currently,theeasternsidecanbevisited,includingthedecorativefaade
andstands,aswellastheSantHermenegildandCarrerEnrajolatvaults.Anothersectionhas
beenuncoveredinPlaaSedassos,andseveralvaultscanstillbevisitedalongCarrer
TrinquetVellandinPlaadelaFont.

Amphiteatre
The mainuseoftheamphitheatrewastoentertainthetown,includingfightsbetweenwild
beastsandgladiatorsaswellaspublicexecutions.TheAmphiteatrewasbuiltattheturnof
the2ndcenturyA.D.anditwasmodifiedin221A.D.Today,aheavilyerodedsectionofthe
standscarveddirectlyintotheremainingrocks,asdoesasectionofthesouthernstands,
supportedbyconcretevaults.Tocommemoratetheevent,aVisigothbasilicawasbuiltonthe
siteattheturnofthe7thcentury,overwhichthemedievalchurchofSantaMariadelMiracle
wassubsequentlyestablished.

NationalArcheologicalMuseum
TheNational ArcheologicalMuseumwasfoundedinthe19thcentury,anditwasbuiltafter
themixofthesetwo:theMonumentCommitteeMuseumandtheTarragonaArchaeological

SocietyMuseum.Youcanfindthis MuseumintodayscentralPlaadelReiinTarragona,
whereyouwillbeabletoseesomeRomanruins,includingseveralfascinating architectural
fragments,sculptures,inscriptions,mosaics,potter
andotherRomangadgets.Ifyougo
tothebasement,youwillgetaviewofpartoftheoriginalancientRomanwall.

Aqueduct
Tarraco,asacity,neededwatersupplyforthetown,sotheybuilttwolongaqueductsinthe
1stcenturyA.D.Thefirstonewas40kmlongandwasfedbytheGaiRiver.TheFrancol
Riverfedthesecondone,whichwasalso15kmlong.Thisonehastheniceststretchabove
all:217meterssegmentthatstands26meterstallatitshighest point.Thispointisknownas
thePontdelDiable(Devil'sBridge) or"LesFerreres"Aqueduct.
