BACHARUDDIN JUSUF HABIBIE

The third President of the Republic of Indonesia, Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie


was born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, on 25 June, 1936. He is the forth son from
eight, from a couple namely Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and RA. Tuti Marini
Puspowardojo. Habibie married with Hasri Ainun Habibie on 12 May, 1962 and
blessed with two sons they are Ilham Akbar and Thareq Kemal.
Habibies childhood was gone through with his brother and sister in ParePare, South Sulawesi. Firm characteristic to hold on principles has been shown by
Habibie since he was a kid. Habibie who have hobby of riding horses, should lost his
father who died on 3 September, 1950 because of heart attack. Not that long after
his father died, Habibie moved to Bandung to take his school at Gouvernments
Middlebare School. During in Senior High School, he started to be preeminent
student because of his achievement, particularly for physical sciences. Habibie
became such a favorite figure in his school. After graduated from Senior High School
in Bandung in 1954, he entered into the University of Indonesia in Bandung (It is now
called ITB). He got Diploma predicate from Technische Hochschule, German in 1960
and then got his doctor from the same university in 1965. Habibie married in 1962,
and blessed with two sons. In 1967, he became the Honor Professor at the Bandung
Institute of Technology (ITB).
Lots of people admire as well as disagree on actions taken by Habibie as
some of them are full with controversies. At every time, the achiever of prestigious
award namely Theodore van Karman Award, back to his habitat in German, he
always become such a news. Habibie was just taken one year attending lecture at
ITB Bandung, 10 years attending lecture and got his aircraft construction doctoral in
German with predicate Summa Cum laude. He then worked at the famous aircraft
industry MBB Gmbh German, before he came back to Indonesia to comply with
President Soehartos request.
In Indonesia, Habibie for 20 years positioned as the State Minister of
Research and Technology / Head of BPPT, chaired 10 state enterprises for Strategic
Industry, selected by the Provisional Peoples Consultative Assembly as the Vice

President of the Republic of Indonesia, and taken his oath by Head of the Supreme
Court to be a President of the Republic of Indonesia replacing Soeharto. Soeharto
delivered his position as President to Habibie pursuant to Article 8 of the Constitution
of 1945. Until finally he had to fall because of Timor Timur referendum which choose
to be independent. His responsibility speech was overruled by the Provisional
Peoples Consultative Assembly. He than back to become an ordinary person, and
he also went back to stay in
