Coaching Resumes
Hi All. Saturday morning Gaelic football coaching for kids ages 5 to
10 years resumes in Oxfield on Saturday February 28th.
This is an ideal opportunity for kids to develop their skills, improve

opportunity for parents to meet others from the local community.
As always, new kids are very welcome. Session details are shown
below along with contact details of the coordinating Coaches:

All children must be registered with Club in order to participate in

coaching sessions, blitzes, etc. If they are not registered, they are
not insured. Being registered also ensures that the club and coaches

Homework

Parent Participation

What? Homework??? Yeslike everything, practice makes perfect.

And while kids will learn loads at training, they can only do so much
in one session. Practicing the basic skills at home or with friends is
the key to their development and progress. Therefore we would
encourage parents to get their kids to do at least some bit of
practicing at home here are a few basic ideas

The future is very bright for our Club. Last year the Club had the
highest number of kids registered in County Sligo. For this reason
the Club and coaches would welcome as many mums and dads as
possible to help out at coaching sessions. The more parents, the
better the session for everyone, and especially for the kids. You do
not need to have played Gaelic games or any sport for that matter in
order to help out. Training will also be provided if required. So if any
parents are available to give a hand (no extended commitment
required) please let your coach know. It will be one of the most
rewarding things you will do with your weekend!
By the way, the Club is also establishing a new Bord na ng
(committee to look after matters relating to juvenile and under age
structure of the club). The Chairperson will be Shane Campbell, and
the intention is that he will be joined by other parents representing
boys teams, girls teams, and hurling teams. So if you are not keen
on the coaching side but would like to give a help out on the
administration side, please contact Shane on 087 9086673.

Catching (into the chest, over the head, bounce pass)

e.g. throw or kick the ball to your child at different heights just
watch the nose!
Kicking (both feet)
e.g. challenge your kid to do 25 kicks with each foot off the wall
mind the windows!
Solo (both feet, keep the kicking leg straight)
e.g. how many can you do in a row with each foot? Can they do it
walking/jogging/running?
Bounce (practice each hand)
e.g. 4 steps, bounce left hand, 4 steps, solo, 4 steps, bounce right
hand, 4 steps, etc Then try it walking/jogging/running.
Fist Pass (both hands, over and back to you or against the wall,
catching on return)
e.g. play a game of D-O-N-K-E-Y using fist passes instead of throws

Just remember whats it all about

Mouthguards - Protect That Smile

It is now mandatory to use a
mouthguard in all football games and
coaching sessions at all age levels.
Therefore the Club has a 'no
gumshield, no game' policy, and players will be sidelined from
training sessions or games if they do not wear one. Therefore please
ensure that your child has a gumshield with them at every coaching
session.
About Mouthguards
There is a wide range of mouthguards available. The decision on
which type of mouthguard a player should obtain is a matter of
personal preference and cost. The stock and Boil & Bite options will
suffice for compliance with the new rules, but only if the product
carries the CE mark.
In our experience, some of the cheaper and more basic
mouthguards are too big for the small mouths of the younger kids.
Some parents have cut the ends back so that they fit. One of the
brands which has proved popular so far is ShockDoctor, but again
the make and type is up to the individual and their parents.
Note Mouthguards are available from John Kent Sports, Lifestyle, Elverys, and
Heatons. For more see www.gaa.ie
