steve I just got a call from unix team stating that he is unable to ping his ser
ver and DNS, but when checked it was reachable from my end.As per user he was us
ing DNS 167.64.1.18

ent with 167.64.1.18 DNS, and then a QA environment called SYSD or JOLAN. That e
nvironment is protected by a firewall. Well actually, it protects production so
that they do not run tests against production servers. That environment has a se
parate DNS server with IP 167.64.24.53. 1:12 PM
If I do not add a production name and IP to the SYSD/JOLAN DNS then it will not
resolve. 1:13 PM

backup is 10.9.1.18. The 167.64.24.53 DNS does not and cannot talk to the prima
ry DNS and no production servers can query it. It was put in place because the a
pplications team wanted to create a test bed with production host names but not
accidentally update production servers. So we put them in SYSD/JOLAN and gave th
em a DNS that when queried by production names would return IP addresses of the
test servers in JOLAN (167.64.24.x 1:18 PM
