Proposal to the President of the United States for Departmental Funding

Dear Mr. President, every year our country is saddled with the residual effects of poverty and lack of quality
education for its citizens. In a nutshell the federal government is the major source of funding to facilitate that
our nations children are properly educated. This department is vital in the development process, academically
and has a tremendous societal impact based on how education affords our citizens to be progressive and lead
productive lives.

A strong education is the foundation that can carry a family for generations. A lack of it may be the major
obstacle that impedes success. As head of the US Department of Education I have to say that this yearly
funding gives my department the ability to address many of the needs of our students across the nation. Id like
to give you an idea of what our department stands for with this statement about what we represent. To
establish policy for, administer and coordinate most federal assistance to education, collect data on schools and
to enforce federal educational laws regarding privacy or rights. (The United States Department of Education)

Our department is best suited to address the needs of this program. We implemented this program and
therefore know how it should be run effectively. Furthermore, we specialize in education and education only.

2
The platform of education is where we stand it is our main and only focus. I can assure you that my department
has no other concerns or agendas other than that of the educational system. I can promise you that we have no
other areas of concentration and we will take our role seriously and are extremely well versed of the needs of
our students. Our department studies, tracks with statistical data and research the best programs and ideas hat
guarantee the success of our students. This program will focus primarily on equipping students in the core
subjects that are necessary to secure jobs in the top five industries that thrive in American society. These
students will be placed from an early education level that continues through the middle and high school levels.
Later on, provided that these students follow the curriculum placed before them in their structured courses of
study, further funding will be given to them to complete this set program of degrees.

Our program would be a new program and one that is overseen by The US Department of Education. This
program will be closely monitored to ensure that all programs in need are properly supplemented.

This program, entitled the Educational Readiness Program would alleviate the decline of skilled students and
those that arent prepared for a challenging job market upon graduation from high school and college. In recent
studies, it states that more than sixty percent of high school graduates are not adequately prepared for college.
(U.S. News and World Report)
Our program would further reach into minority, as well as other economically disadvantaged school
corporations to make sure that all students are receiving a first class education. The program we would be
implementing would be called the STEM program. This program focuses on State-Level initiatives related to
STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

3
Currently, this program doesnt fit into our budget. In fact, when we factor in the percentage of overall federal
government budget money education is among the least funded of governmental departments. I believe that
this level of governmental funding is not conducive to a progressive and successful society. In most
departments this would be seen as a glaring oversight or lack of funding. As it stands presently , our
department only receives four percent of federal spending. We are asking for an additional six percent of
federal spending monies to be allocated into our program. This infusion of funds will bring our program to a
level of ten percent of federal spending. This number is very minute when you consider that the federal budget
is $3.5 trillion dollars. My department will receive from this six percent boost in revenue an additional $211
billion dollars to supplement the already $141 billion that we receive. While significant, it is not nearly enough
to address the needs of an ever growing base of educational organizations and students that need our support.

Mr. President, this new program is very integral in the growth and success of the modern day student.
Although we are considered to be one of the strongest, wealthiest and most progressive countries in the world,
we are sometimes lacking academically in many areas in comparison to our foreign counterparts. Mr.
President, I implore you to read our proposal thoroughly and to please give it the serious consideration that it
deserves. The components in this proposal have the ability to revitalize the lives and well being of many
citizens going forward. I also believe that given the proper resources, that it will give my department the
necessary structure we need to enhance our countries educational foundation.

Thank You
Mr. President
