DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
A.
Hoisting equipment shall comply with the safety and specification standards of
ASME B30.11, ASME B30.16, and ASME HST-4.
B.
Hoists and trolleys shall be specially designed, constructed and installed for the
service intended. All features necessary for satisfactory operation and functioning
of the hoisting equipment shall be provided, whether or not they are described in
these specifications. Hoists and trolleys shall meet the specific requirements of
the Detailed Specifications.
C.
The hoisting equipment manufacturer shall design, furnish, shop test and
supervise the installation of instrumentation and controls, coordinated to function
as a system, providing and accepting appropriate signals to start and stop the
hoisting equipment as required for safe, trouble-free operation.
D.
All parts of the mechanisms shall be amply designed and constructed for the
maximum stresses occurring during fabrication, installation and continuous
operation. All materials shall be new. All parts of duplicate equipment shall be
interchangeable without modification, and all parts subject to wear shall be of
standard pattern and easily replaceable without the necessity of special cutting
and fitting.

The hoisting equipment systems shall consist essentially of trolley, hoist, motors
and push-button control stations.
F.
Each unit of hoisting equipment and monorail shall bear an inscription, easily
readable from the operating floor, showing the rated capacity of the equipment
and control identification. All appurtenances, caution markers and appliances
necessary to satisfy applicable safety laws and codes shall be provided.
G.
The monorail beam shall be as shown on the Contract Drawings and shall be
provided with all necessary supports and appurtenances.
H.
The equipment shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with the codes
and standards listed herein. They shall be considered an integral part of this
specification and shall govern the design, fabrication, testing and inspection of
equipment, except as otherwise shown or specified herein.
I.
All hardware for mounting of motor drives and control panels shall be Type 316
stainless steel.

accordance with Article 4 of the General Conditions.

The manufacturer shall have a minimum of five (5) years experience in the
design and manufacture of equipment of the specified size and type.
All equipment provided under this Specification shall be obtained from a single
supplier or manufacturer who shall assume full responsibility for the
completeness of the system. The supplier shall be the source of information on all
equipment furnished regardless of the manufacturing source of that equipment.
DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

Master shipping list shall be supplied showing the quantity of each section,
subassembly, or piece, the piece number and the drawing on which each
subassembly or piece is detailed.

Deliver all spare parts, tools and supplies with the equipment neatly boxed,
indexed and tagged with complete information for use and reordering.

Provide the following spare parts for each monorail hoisting system:

One replacement parts kit and one operating coil for each main contactor
installed.

One complete set of linings for each type and size of brake.

CONTROLS
A.
Hoist Limit Control: Provide upper and lower limit switches. The upper limit
switch shall stop the hoist motor and activate the holding brake when the load
hook reaches its upper limit. The lower limit switch shall activate the holding
brake when the load hook reaches its lower limit.

Contactors: Each magnetic control shall have contactors sized for the specified
class of service. Reversing contactors shall be mechanically and electrically
interlocked to prevent line-to-line faults and shall be provided with automatic
reset thermal overloads for the hoist motor.

Tracks shall be straight with continuously welded sections and factory prepared
ends. Welding shall be continuous submerged arc.

withstanding the impact of a fully loaded hoist traveling at maximum speed.

Tripping bars for limit switches shall be Type 316 stainless steel and shall be

Hoist Drive: Chain hoist shall be driven through gear trains with all operating
parts totally enclosed. Gears shall be carried on anti-friction bearings and operate
in an oil bath or with grease lubrication.

Hoisting Chain (Load Chain): Hoisting or load chain shall be steel chain,
accurately pitched to pass smoothly over all load sprockets without binding.
Chain shall be welded link chain meeting the requirements of the NACM Grade
28 or single loop weldless chain meeting the requirements of NACM No. 6001.
Chain shall be coated by hot dip galvanizing. Remove excess metal at welded
chain joints for proper fit into the chainwheel pockets. Remove burrs and sharp
edges. Chain shall be suitable for bare-hand operation.

Proof Test: Provide load chains which have been proof tested by the chain
or hoist manufacturer with a load equivalent to at least one and one half

Operating Wheels and Chains: Provide operating wheels equipped with swinging
chain guides to permit rapid handling of the operating chain without gagging the
wheel and to permit a reasonable side pull on the chain. Operating chains shall
hang approximately 3 feet above the operating floor. Provide hooks on which to
hang the operating chains when not in use.

Furnish anchor bolts and nuts of Type 316 stainless steel, of ample size and
strength for the purpose intended, sized by the equipment manufacturer. Anchor
bolts shall be hooked and provided for direct embedment during placement of
concrete.

IDENTIFICATION
Provide brass or stainless steel nameplates for all systems and component
subassemblies in accordance with General Specification 15076. Include at a
minimum the following information:

SHOP PAINTING
A.
Clean and prime coat ferrous metal surfaces of equipment in the shop in
accordance with the requirements of General Specification 09900.
B.
Finish paint ferrous metal surfaces in the shop using the manufacturers approved
standard finish system. Finish system shall be compatible with the primer
specified in General Specification 09900 and the Detailed Specifications. Motors
shall be painted in accordance with General Specification 16221.

Coat machined, polished, and non-ferrous metal surfaces and similar unpainted
surfaces with corrosion prevention compound which shall be maintained during
storage and until equipment begins operation.

Test the hoisting equipment in the shop for static and dynamic loads in
accordance with manufacturers approved testing protocol.

FIELD PAINTING
Provide field touch up painting of scratched or damaged surfaces, using primer,
intermediate and finish paints provided by the manufacturer, in accordance with
General Specification 09900 and the Detailed Specifications.
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Reports: Submit a report from the manufacturer of each visit to the site. Reports
shall provide complete information on time, schedule, tasks performed, persons
contacted, problems corrected, test results, training, instruction and all other
pertinent information.

Field Tests: After Contractor and the Engineer have mutually agreed that the
equipment installation is complete and ready for continuous operation, Contractor
and a qualified field service representative of the manufacturer shall conduct a
running test of the hoist and its controls in the presence of the Engineer to
demonstrate that the hoist and its controls will function correctly.

Field test the hoist unit together with its controls. Tests shall
demonstrate that each part and all parts together function in the
manner intended.

Final Field Tests: Perform load tests in accordance with CMAA standards
and the NYC Building Code requirements.
