Reflective Letter
There is a long period I worried about my writing. Whenever I wrote down something, I
could feel my words are plainful, dull and cold. I handled my essay structure very difficult.
My body paragraphs are unconvincing, I feel difficult to find a suitable evidence. Writing 211
is a right class for me. The key idea of the class is to shows the big image about the whole
thesis of writing and the elements to support the thesis. After three months of study, the class
taught me the keys to make a vivid, well-structured and convincing essay.
By writing a essay with vivid words and elements, reading is necessary. The class gave
me many opportunities to read. I read the novel Im down, as well as the text book Elements
of Arguments. We then made our critic reviews to the reading, wrote the book review for the
novel, judged the social and racial elements in the novel as well as the parental acceptance.
We were required to find how the author of the book uses her evidence to make the characters
feel alive and vivid. The purpose of this is to teach us how we should using our evidence to
make our essay vivid and support the main idea.
The class also taught me how to make my essay structure organized. The class taught me
what should be in the introduction. The professor taught me what should appear in body
paragraphs and how should body paragraphs support the main idea. The class taught me that
each body paragraph has its independent statement and how each body paragraph related to
each other by the main thesis. The well organized structure makes my essay easy to read. It

also makes my logic clear in order to make more complex points of arguments in the future.
An essays purpose is to tell the reader the authors point and make reader believe it. It is
important that every sentences in the essay has its purpose to convincing readers. We spend a
lot of time in the class to learn the skill. We learn many ways to make our essays points
convincing. Defending the main idea is using the sentences to support the thesis. Refuting the
opposing view is to attack and weaken the opposite view. Finding the middle ground can
make our essay more controversial. Presenting the stock issues represents the causality.
Choosing a correct style and tone let the readers hear the voice of my will. All of these skills
are what I can use in my study and career.
The EWRT 211 build my basic skills in my study career. Now I wrote my essay clearer
and more effective then before. I enjoy the skill I have learned and goal I have achieved.
These skills I will bring them to the future classes. I am ready to achieve more. It is not easy
in the future class, yet there are more skills and acknowledge to study to help me handle those
classes. Thanks for the EWRT 211 to give me confidence in writing, I am willing to learn
more and more in English classes.
