Theory

Application

Electromagnetic vibratory feeders

utilize a sub-resonance tuned two
mass system. An electromagnet in
the drive attracts an armature
bracket connected to the second
mass via a leaf spring set creating
linear vibration. This vibration acts
along a line of drive to the feeder
pan, creating controlled movement
of the product along the feeder pan.
By varying the firing time of the AC
supply via the controller, the
feedrate can be accurately
controlled.

The Electromagnetic vibratory

feeder system is designed for
continuous volumetric and
gravimetric feeding of bulk solids,
e.g. powders, granules, chips,
flakes, and fibres.

The Schenck Electromagnetic

feeder is sub-resonant tuned making
the feeder less prone to effects from
material headload and trough wear.

BV-D2223GB

The electromagnetic feeder offers

excellent control. Typically the
control range is 1:20 and for some
applications 1:50 can be achieved.
Due to the controlled vibration of the
electromagnetic drive near
instantaneous stop and starts can be
performed making the feeder ideal
for batching applications. There is no
limit to the number of stop and starts
the drive can perform per hour.

The drive features few moving parts

and does not require lubrication.
The vibratory force from the drive is
introduced at a fixed frequency
along a constant line of force,
resulting in a highly reliable feed
system.
The mounting of the feeder can be
base or suspension mounted via coil
springs or heavy duty rubber
elements. Typically less than 5% of
the vibration is transmitted to the
surrounding environment.

Electromagnetic Drives
At the heart of the technology is the Schenck
MV series electromagnetic drive.
Highest quality drive and known for long
lasting service with no wearing parts.
All drives are rated to protection class IP55.
Features include;
1. Simple externally mounted tuning
weights for simple adjustment and tuning.
2. Leaf spring set with special shot penned
leaf springs designed for maximum life
3. Cast Iron housing with integrated spring
brackets
4. Cover case from cast fibre glass,
corrosion proof and lower noise. Sealed
with rubber seal
5. Electromagnet is a sealed core and
winding in epoxy resin totally protected
from moisture and dust.

Installation of Vibratory Feeders

Normally feeders are installed at a downslope to increase the
material flowrate of the material and therefore capacity of the
feeder, typically a 3% increase for each degree of
downslope.
When installed under a hopper outlet the ratio of the Throat
(T) and Gate (G) should be between 0.5 and 0.8. The cut-off
(determined from the static angle of repose of the material )
should between 25 to 150mm depending on material and
length of trough. Material skirts should clear the rear of the
feeder vertically (e) by 25mm and 50mm horizontally (f) when
unloaded.

f
a

The material side skirts should slope away from the feeder
trough along the length (b), typically 2 or greater.
In all cases the feeder trough and drive should be free to vibrate at least 25mm.
Schenck offers complete solutions for bulk material discharging which include both the vibratory feeder and
hopper outlet.
