PENDAHULUAN
Konsep yang saya presentasikan ini adalah sebuah subyektivitas yang mewakili tentang
apa yang saya rasakan, apa yang sedang saya alami dan apa yang sedang saya renungkan saat ini.
Secara garis besar, ide-ide yang saya refleksikan bersumber dari spiritualitas timur yang memang
sedang saya dalami sedikit demi sedikit. Saya menjadikan seni sebagai sebuah alat atau media

implementasi atas apa yang sedang saya rasakan. Hanya berkesenianlah yang mampu mewakili
dan mampu menterjemahkan tentang apa yang saya rasakan dan di sinilah saya mendapatkan
kenyamanan, ketenangan, kedamaian.
The concept that I am delivering here is a subjectivity which represents of what I
have been feeling, experiencing and thinking so far concerning phenomenon around me
especially in the place where I live. Broadly speaking, the ideas that I reflect is originated
from eastern spirituality that long I have tried to understand bit by bit. I make art as a
means or implementation of my feeling and this is where I find comfort, tranquility and
peace.
Personally, I dont intend to follow issues which are developing in the world of art
nowadays. Because on one hand, the development of idea and creativity of artists is fastpaced and on the other hand I humbly admit that my intelligence capability cannot cope
with so many concepts and references which I believe, are being invented and developed
every day. Such things sometimes really bottle me up. In the mean time Im only trying to
be honest to myself and describing what Im saying is corresponding to what Im feeling.
I was born and raised by the culture and customs of the east, Indonesia (Java in
particular). Most of the Javanese always use the values of spirituality in everyday life. How
to live with each other; interact with nature and of course, to have high kinship for others.
Indirectly, it gives a great influence on the mindset, worldview and my behavior in life.
Broadly speaking, eastern society upholding solidarity, family and really appreciate the
difference. Even today, it is still preserved and handed down to the next generations.

Konsep

Proses
Stepping on a life is a play that every man must have experienced. They learn to see,
to feel, to speak, to work. None of them miss a phase of life. All human beings have
experienced life in womb, become toddlers, adolescents, adults, and finally leave this world.
However not many are capable and aware of it because they just pass through and assume
that the process is normal. Principally, a life is always running normally and there is not a
case. However, there are exceptions which according to some specific community, has a

different understanding in living a life. They do not just skip and considers each
occurrence as common or normal thing and always interpret one phase incident in detail,
with the aim of searching for something called Intrinsic Tranquility.
The local wisdom of Javanese culture has an understanding and a concept on how
human being should or should not in living a life. A set of rules that concern on how human
behaves towards the nature and fellow creatures coexist. In Javanese Tradition, this so
called Set of rules is embodied in the form of Tembang Macapat or Macapat Songs.
Macapat is Javanese songs that used by Javanese to teach their child, their pupils or to
symbolize the life.
There are many kinds of Macapat, because Macapat itself represents lessons and
specifically Phase of Life.
1. Maskumambang (womb phase). "kumambang" is a Javanese term which means floating.
Through this song, human infants who are still floating in the mother's abdomen is
described. The character of this song is suffering, effort and struggle.
2. Mijil (born phase)
In the Java language "Mijil, mbrojol, mencolot" meaning to arise or to come out. It
describes the birth of a baby. The song characterizes compassion and affection.
3. Sinom (young phase)
"Kanoman" means young or teenage life. Describing youth life, a phase filled with
hope and dreams and tells about one must seek knowledge to make it happen. The
character of this song is friendly and crisp.
4. Kinanthi (guidance phase)
"Kanthi" means a guidance or guidance to reach ones future. Describing the period in
which one seeks identity and path to pursue the goal.
5. Asmarandana (romance phase)
"Tresna" which means love. Describing the period in which humans afflicted with
romance, in love, drowned in a sea of love. Just like any other love song, the songs
character is love-driven delirious.
6. Gambuh (Partnership Phase)
The song describes a human commitment that is expressed in love and readiness to settle
down with the companion.
7. Dhandhanggula (Happiness Phase)
Derived from "kasembadan" which means pleasure. It describes the success of fostering
home, family, and how happines and dreams are achieved.
8. Durma (Virtue Phase)
"dharma" which means generous and willingness to give; charity. It describes ones form
of gratitude to God who has given all the best by giving others with the best too.
9. Pangkur (Purity Phase)
Derived from word "Mungkur" means away. It describes human desires to get rid of
anger, negative lust that undermine his soul.
10. Megatruh (Dying Phase)

Megat Ruh means the releasing of the ones spirit in the death bed. This song describes
the release of the spirit or human dying phase.
11. Pocung (Afterlife Phase)
In the Java language "pocong" which means it's wrapped. The song describes ones
death, undergo the rituals and ready to be buried.

Macapat songs imply "Hakikat Kehidupan: an Essence of understanding the nature


of life". In some perception and point of view, the meaning of a life is to understand the
nature and to be able to get to know ourselves. That is the reason "why one lives, what one
lives for, and how one must behave in living a life". This set of ideas will lead every human
journey toward the ultimate tranquility. Such peace that is not only a mirage, that peace
cannot be measured and compared with material being and cannot be affected by any
pleasures which are temporary.
Hakikat Kehidupan: an Essence of understanding the nature of life is an important
elementary to provide one with motivation, guidance and spirit to the human soul as a
whole. Some may assume that the dawn of life phase begins with our birth and then the
next process from one point to another after. We had born with all the difficulties, with all
the effort until finally we were able to open the eyes to see the world. However, taking this
point from eastern, especially Javanese ideas, which is embodied in Mocopat, Initially we
simply nothing more than a drop of semen, then into a lump of flesh; a phase that we
equally experienced and shared. Therefore, none of us deserve to feel better than others. All
human is equal and human has its uniqueness and its own features.
Hakikat adalah pokok dan dasar untuk memberikan motivasi dan spirit kedalam jiwa
manusia secara keseluruhan. Ini adalah titik awal kehidupan manusia yaitu sebuah fase dan
proses perkembangan dari titik satu ke titik sejanjutnya. Terlahir sendiri dengan segala kesusah
payahan, dengan segala usaha hingga akhirnya mampu membuka mata untuk melihat dunia.
Semula kita hanyalah tak lebih dari setetes cairan sperma, kemudian menjadi segumpal daging
dan semua manusia mengalami hal serupa. Oleh karena itu, tidak ada satupun dari kita yang
pantas untuk merasa lebih dari yang lain. Manusia memiliki sebuah kesamaan dan manusia
mempunyai kelebihan atau kekurangan masing-masing.
Humans will experience periods of learning. In life, they will be confronted with various
problems and various life experiences. Sometimes they will feel small and powerless to fight
the problems that come until they need the help of others, but at other times, they feel great
and should provide assistance to others who have a problem and need help to resolve the
problem. It will then become a reference on his own and formed a maturity behave. They
would be wise in dealing with a life and is able to find solutions to the problems of life.
Semua manusia akan mengalami masa-masa pembelajaran. Dalam menjalani kehidupan,
mereka akan dipertemukan dengan berbagai macam masalah dan berbagai macam pengalaman
hidup. Terkadang mereka merasa kecil dan tak berdaya untuk melawan masalah yang datang
hingga akhirnya mereka membutuhkan bantuan orang lain, tetapi di waktu yang lain, mereka

merasa besar dan harus memberikan bantuan kepada orang lain yang mempunyai masalah dan
membutuhkan pertolongan untuk menyelesaikan masalahnya. Hal tersebut yang kemudian akan
menjadi referensi tentang hidupnya sendiri dan membentuk suatu kedewasaan berperilaku.
Mereka akan lebih bijak dalam menyikapi sebuah kehidupan dan mampu mencari solusi dari
permasalahan tentang kehidupan.

Thus, the Fetus will represent the dawn of a phase that I live up today and will
experience in the future. The fetus is also a representation of me in person and also
the reminder of what it means to live a life as a human. It is a man-to-be who is
trying to understand about nature of life, finding reasons why I was finally born and
how I should live and act. This is also my effort to bear responsibility of me being a
Javanese who is trying to live up my old traditions in a new world. A new world
where we reside together, as equal, This is where a conditions will be decided as if
the life I live in the future and eventually leave this world.

Janin inilah yang akan mewakili permulaan proses yang akan saya jalani saat ini dan
masa yan akan datang. Janin inilah yang nantinya dapat mewakili diri saya secara pribadi untuk
menjadi manusia seutuhnya. Yaitu manusia yang bisa memahami tentang hakikat kehidupan dan
mampu memberi alasan mengapa saya dilahirlan dan mengapa saya harus hidup dan berbuat. Di
sinilah sebuah ketentuan diputuskan akan seperti apakah kehidupan yang saya jalani kelak dan
pada akhirnya meninggalkan dunia ini.
