The Sacred Stream An interpretation of Cheonggyecheon Stream (Spring 2010) My interpretation of The Sacred in relationship to Cheonggyecheon Streams history as a natural stream, a paved road, and a restored sacred site with its heart in downtown Seoul. As a student of urban planning, the paper focuses on how The Sacred should reflect concepts of sustainability by living in harmony with our environments while also encouraging more human-centric designs such as the 2005 Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project. In order to understand my interpretation of the Sacred in relationship to the site, a detailed history of the site is discussed. Pages: 15. Greyfield Redevelopment and Architectural Leadership Fighting Sprawl using Greyfields as an opportunity (Spring 2010) Since their inception during the mid 1950s, suburban shopping malls have contributed to decentralization and the phenomena of urban sprawl. Due to recent trends in the late 20th century, shopping malls are failing and becoming vacant, empty boxes with little or no economic use (otherwise known as greyfields). Despite the negativity associated with greyfield sites, many planners and architects are viewing them as an opportunity to help reverse the negative impacts they were once responsible for. It is up to urban planners and architects to assume leadership roles and ensure that a greyfield sites potential is fulfilled. Pages: 14.
