Malawi Police arrest another quack doctor

The Blantyre Police is keeping in custody a man who they are yet to give out his particulars, for allegedly being found conducting in a
manner that showed that he is a practicing doctor at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
An eye witness revealed that the man was caughtSundayin the Children (Orthopedic) Ward at the referral hospital bringing the number of
fake arrested doctors to four, one at the Lilongwe Central Hospital.
While confirming of the arrest, Blantyre Police said they are not through with investigations and wold come back with particulars of the
accused and any other related information.
Recently Blantyre Magistrates Court sentenced a bogus Doctor Wongani Kumbukani Kandulu to six years Imprisonment with Hard Labour
(IHL).
Another one, illegally using the name Dr Zizwani Mwafulirwas but his real name is John Ben Kamanga, was also given similar custodial
sentence by the same court.
Both bogus doctors were arrested at Blantyres Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where they were reportedly pretending to work as
medical doctors.

THE PROBLEM WITH MOST OF OUR DOCTORS IN MALAWI HOSPITALS ATTEND TO PATIENTS IN CIVILIAN CLOTHING AND NO IDENTITY AT
ALL. I WOUNDER WHY? ONLY STUDENTS ON TRAINING ARE THE ONES SEEN IN WHITE UNIFORM WHEN ATTENDING TO PATIENTS. MY

Licences are offered willy nilly to anyone mostly nurses ,pharmacists etc and many ordinary people cant distinguish between a trained
doctor and anyone with white dust coat . Control private practice doctors that do not even qualify to open doctors rooms

The doctor usually goes to the patient with a nurse, it is to the nurse that the doctor shud show his ID. If the patient is very sick all you need
is assistance and not an ID. So nurses must kno their doc on duty and then confirm on the duty roaster if he is the right one, if not tell him
doc so-so is one on duty. That way bogus doc wont attempt their tricks.
