Sunday of St John Klimakos (of the Ladder) is the Fourth Sunday of Great
Lent, which Commemorates St John, the Inspired Author of the great
work: The Ladder of Divine Ascent, which, by its 30 Spiritual Steps,
leads us to Eternal Life in the Divine Kingdom of Love (Agape) i.e.
Spiritual Perfection, Theosis or Deification.
Todays Theme concerns St John Klimakos witness or testimony to our real
Spiritual Struggle which is absolutely necessary for our Entrance into
Gods Eternal Heavenly Kingdom.
It also serves as an encouragement to us to the Faithful Disciples of Christ
who Struggle to maintain our Spiritual Direction in order to finally reach
the Blessed Goal of our Lenten efforts, as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus
Christ said that only those ... who endure to the End will be Saved.
(Matthew 24:13)
Our Venerable and God-bearing Holy Church Father, St John Klimakos, is
also known as St John of the Ladder, St John Scholastikos, and St
John Sinaites, (St John of Sinai).

let us Labour in the Mystical

the Virtues. By such will the Lord
of the Labour be pleased, and He
will grant them the denariis
whereby He Ransoms souls from
the Debt of sin, for He alone is the
Only Greatly Merciful One.

THEOTOKION, GREAT DOXOLOGY & RESURRECTION APOLYTIKION IS FOLLOWED BY THE
DIVINE LITURGY OF ST JOHN CHRYSOSTOM

He lived in the Seventh Century and became a Novice at St Catherines

Monastery when he was 16 years old and remained there for most of - if
not - his entire life. When he finally Reposed in Christ, St John was the
Abbot of St Catherines Monastery on Mount Sinai.
He is Commemorated on 30 March and on the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent.
St John wrote many instructive works for Monks, the most famous of which is
his Ladder of Divine Ascent, which describes how we can raise our
immortal soul to God, as if we are climbing a Spiritual Ladder of 30
Significant Steps of Virtue and Struggle. (It is highly recommended
reading for all serious Disciples of Christ not only for Monks and Nuns.)
Here are a few examples of the Divinely Inspired and Eternal Wisdom of our
Holy Church Father, St John Klimakos:

"Nothing equals or excels God's Mercies. Therefore, he who despairs is
committing suicide.
A Sign of True Repentance is the acknowledgment that we deserve all the
afflictions, visible and invisible, that come upon us, and ever greater
ones.
Moses, after seeing God in the Burning Bush, returned again to Egypt, that
is, to (Spiritual) Darkness and to the brick-making of Pharaoh, who was
symbolical of the Spiritual Pharaoh. But he went back again to the Bush
- and not only to the Bush, but also up the Mountain [Mount Sinai].
Whoever has known Divine Vision will never despair of himself. Job
became a beggar, but he became twice as rich again."

"Repentance is the Renewal of Baptism. Repentance is a Contract with God
for a Second Life. A Penitent is a Buyer of Humility. Repentance is

Repentance is Reconciliation with the Lord by the practise of Good

Repentance is the voluntary Endurance of all afflictions. A Penitent is the
inflicter of his own punishments. Repentance is a mighty persecution of
the stomach, and a striking of the soul into vigorous awareness."

"Let us charge into the Good Fight with Joy and Love without being afraid of
our enemies. Although unseen themselves, they can look at the face of
our soul, and if they see it altered by fear, they take up arms against us
all the more fiercely. For the cunning creatures have observed that we
are scared. So let us take up Arms against them courageously. No one
will fight with a resolute fighter."

in this world as exiles.
At that time also He decreed that a Flaming Sword should be turned and

And God did not curse Paradise, since it was the image of the future
Unending Life of the Eternal Kingdom of Heaven.
If it were not for this reason, it would have been fitting to curse it most of all,
