SURGICAL WARD (3-11shift)

OBJECTIVES FOR THE PLAN OF THE ACTIVITIES

Students will be able:

 To show respect towards clinical instructor, practicing clinical instructors,


medicating nurse and to all hospital staff.
 To adhere to the hospital policies; procedures, regulations and techniques
 To determine individualize patient and their respective medication its uses,
actions, indications, contraindication, caution, precaution, route and dose
of different medication and provide health teachings.
 To document all given medication.

Staff nurse will be able:

 To collect each ticket and verify it with the doctor’s order for the assurance
that the medication/drug will be given to the right person, right dose, right
route at the right time.
 Supervise, coordinate and collaborate with other nursing staff/practicing
clinical instructor for the assurance and safety of drug administration done
by the students.
 To orient the students about the plan of activities for the whole shift in
collaboration with the practicing clinical instructor under the supervision of
the clinical instructor.
 To practice the rights of the patient in giving medication.
 To promote proper technique and proper hygiene in giving medication.
 To render health teachings in giving medication to the patient and
significant others.
 To give stat PO meds as ordered by the physician.
 To watch for all possible signs and symptoms and its precaution in giving
medication for the safety of the patient and to make sure that the
medication will not worsen the condition of the patient.
 To document all the medications given for the legality purposes.

PLAN OF ACTIVITIES
(December 26-28 2010)
• 2:30pm- circle time
• Orientation about the thing to do in the surgical ward.
• Endorsement.
• Rounds together with the nursing staff and students
• Collecting individualize tickets of the patient.
• Chart viewing and verification of the ticket with the doctor’s order.
• Prepare the PO drugs for its dosage
• Collaborating with the practicing clinical instructor in designating PO
medication to be given by the students.
• Giving of PO medication/ signing of chart (medication sheet).
• DINNER
• Giving PO medication at bed time
• Checking of charts.
• Endorsement.
