Upcoming Series:

Autism

March 18th from 11:00 am to 1:00pm

Beyond the ABCs and 123s: Effective Early Education for Young Children with Autism
Parents, preschool and day care staff, and early intervention therapists have a valuable opportunity to significantly impact young children with autism. Certain prerequisite skills must be
developed and specific teaching strategies applied in order to maximize this crucial time in their
development. Before too much time is spent on typical preacademic skills, learn about specific
ways to improve the priority areas of social interaction, communication, and behavior at both
home and school.

April 15th from 9:00 am to 1:00pm (Part of the Autism Symposium)

Making Informed Choices about Autism Intervention
With the wide variety of treatment approaches marketed for autism, can parents know where to
start, what to try, and which ones may be right for their child? Participants will be directed to
resources that assess the credibility of various interventions, learn how to objectively measure
their effectiveness, and understand what current research indicates about the most popular options. This workshop will benefit families looking to make sense of treatment claims or evaluate their childrens current programs.

May 20th from 11:00 am to 1:00pm

Taking Care of Yourself when Your Child Has Autism
Come to this open forum to discuss how you handle stressful situations. Practical strategies for
coping with stress will be discussed. Participants will be encouraged to share experiences about
how they maintain energy, enthusiasm, humor, and a positive outlook on life. The entire family
benefits when parents can manage the challenges and enjoy the good times. This discussion
will enhance your mind, body, and spirit.

June 17th from 11:00 am to 1:00pm

Understanding and Improving Challenging Behavior
Understanding why a challenging behavior is occurring is crucial to developing a plan to address
it. Participants will learn about identifying common functions of challenging behaviors, implementing strategies for preventing and challenging behaviors, and monitoring progress. Learn a
7 step plan involving proactive steps that can be taken to teach more appropriate behaviors
that can significantly improve your childs quality of life.
