3.4 Drawing Revisions

3.4.1
Preliminary - Not For Construction Drawings
All official drawings which may be produced for the purpose of generating preliminary
engineering planning, cost estimates, construction sequencing and phasing, bids, agency
approvals and or any other engineering study shall have an Alphanumeric Revision Number,
beginning with the letter A, assigned as part of the drawing name.
These revisions will change sequentially as new iterations of the drawing design are
modified. All of these revisions will be noted in the drawing title block and in the

drawing revision description blocks. All drawings will also have a Preliminary Not for
Construction stamp located in the lower right hand corner above the title block.
(e.g.) Rev A, Rev B, Rev C,
3.4.2

Certified For Construction (CFC) Drawings

All official drawings which are released for the purpose of construction at the project site
shall have a Numeric Revision Number, beginning with the number (0) zero, assigned as
part of the drawing name.
(e.g.) Rev 0, Rev 1, Rev 2,
These revisions will change sequentially as necessary if revised Design Changes are
required to adjust previously approved drawings. All of these revisions will be noted in the
drawing title block and in the drawing revision description blocks. These drawings will also
have a Certified for Construction stamp located in the lower right hand corner above the
title block.
3.4.3

Revising between CFC and Non-CFC versions of the same drawing

In the case that a CFC drawing needs revised and the revision is not meant to return to
CFC until review and a following revision an alphanumeric system as follows shall be
used.
(e.g.) Rev 2 (CFC) is revised for sending to agencies for approval. It becomes Rev
2A, then 2B, etc. until the drawing is meant to become CFC again. At such
time it becomes Rev 3.
3.4.4

General Revision Procedures

*All CFC drawings will only be issued through the Records, Management and
Document Control processing service.
*Each revised area or change item on a drawing after Rev 0 is indicated with a revision
cloud and a revision triangle as general practice unless it is deemed for special purposes
that the drawing is clearer without the revision clouds and triangles. Place clouds and
revision triangles on separate levels (G-ANNO-REVC and G-ANNO-REVS, respectively.)
*For overflow revisions that exceed the allocated revision spaces - erase the bottom
revision and move all revisions down to allow for the latest revision at the top.

Reference Files

4.1.1 Master Files

A Master file may be utilized if desired to contain the bulk of the actual design
information for one or more drawings. Master files are created with 3-dimensional
seed files even if the elements within the files are meant to be viewed as 2dimensional. Master files should not contain scale-specific graphics (i.e.: north
arrows, graphic scales, sheet titles or labels).
Each Master file typically contains information associated with only one discipline
(ie.: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) This separation of information must be
maintained even when producing multi-disciplined drawings.
Master files are always drawn Full Size, that is, one inch equals one inch and one
foot equals one foot.

4.1.2

Sheet Files
Sheet Files contain everything needed to be plotted as an actual drawing product.
They are a combination of referenced master files (when applicable), design
graphics, border, drawing annotation/text, north arrow, and graphic scale, etc.
Sheet Files are created with the same seed files as Master Files.
For each sheet file, a single border file is attached as a reference file via the saved
view function and then scaled to the desired plot scale. See Table 3 for typical
scale factors. In each case, design data is drawn full-size, and the plotting scale is
established by scaling the border sheet reference file.

4.1.3

Border Files

Section 3.2.1 lists the seed border files. The level assignments and content of
border file graphics are established per OSDC standards and are not be changed
without prior authorization.
Engineers stamps
Engineer stamps are placed within the border and assigned levels by
discipline. Border file level assignments are shown in Table 8.
4.1.4 Reference Files
Reference files are anything from topographic maps, survey files and other
background maps, to data points such as boring locations in a coordinate system,
etc. The graphic elements in reference files are placed in their proper geographic
position within the Ohio State Plane South Coordinate system. They are usually 3D
models with the elements placed at the correct geographic elevations except for
annotations and grid lines. Annotation is accepted in Reference Files such as contour
elevations and surface object identification if necessary. See Table 8 for pertinent
levels & information.
4.2

Level Conventions

Level naming convention is dictated by this manual and shall be used for all OSDC
work, whether the work is produced in-house or by an outside contractor or

MicroStation CADD Standards and Procedures
consultant. Additional levels may be created as the need arises. Any additional
levels should follow the convention set forth in Table 8 which describes the list of
levels and their associated symbology.
4.3

Pen Tables

FBP OSDC uses Projectwise InterPlot software for plotting in Microstation. PW IPLOT
supports the use of design scripts to establish certain plotting characteristics and
capabilities. There are two custom design scripts one each for full-size and halfsize plotting in monochrome (black/white). There are two custom design scripts for
color plotting. The four standard design scripts are:

4.4

Line weights

Each of the 32 line weights available within MicroStation are

explicitly defined in terms of line width. The full-size Design
Scripts match line widths to equivalent technical pen sizes.
Half-size Design Scripts reduce these line widths by 50%.

4.5

Line Styles

The seven basic line styles available within MicroStation (line

styles 1 through 7) are customized for FBPs needs. The
plotted line styles vary slightly from the styles displayed onscreen. Half-size line styles are 50% reductions of the fullsize.

4.6

Half-tone
linework

Any Reference File with a cont Logical Name Prefix will be

screened when plotted to create a half-tone effect. This is
useful for de-emphasizing certain parts of a drawing, for
example when differentiating between existing and proposed
items. Also, the color 120 may be used to achieve screening
as well but is a secondary option.

4.7

Plot Stamp

A special character string in FBP border which are replaced at

the time of plotting with file name (including path), threeletter user designator, plot time, and pen table applied to the
plotted design file.

x 1/4, width factor 0.75 Title text (including for sections and details)
Note: Sketches and presentation drawings that are not to become official
project drawings may use other fonts and font sizes as necessary.
4.10

North Arrow
The north arrow is required for all plans with its location at the upper right
corner of the drawing and is also part of the key plan.
The cell name is NORTHA. See below for correct image (not to scale).

4.11

Key Plan
A key plan may be used to better identify a design elements location. It will
be located on the drawing in a relevant location to help clarify the graphics.

5.0 Finalization of CADD Deliverables

5.1

Electronic Drawing File Preparation

When requested as a deliverable, completed electronic sheet files shall be merged to

master with all elements from master, reference, and border files merged into the
drawing as graphics. Topography/Lidar/Imagery may remain as references if necessary
for file size and must be submitted with the merged to master file. All working sheet
files, master files, border files, and reference files shall be retained and submitted upon
request.
5.2

Transmitting Electronic Drawing Files

All CADD drawings transmitted to a NON-FBP recipient must be in PDF

format unless the transfer of native format files has been approved by OSDC
management.

6.0 Plotting
FBP uses Bentley Systems ProjectWise InterPlot and Interplot Organizer
applications as the primary MicroStation plotting interface. Plot files are
submitted through the ProjectWise enterprise network to print queues dedicated to
CADD production. Batch plotting is done with Bentley Systems ProjectWise
InterPlot Organizer software.
x Plot queue settings files have file names matching the queue name. Other
settings files used in conjunction with the plot queue setting files are:
Settings files PW_IPLOT_FBP_11x17-REDUCED.set and PW_IPLOT_FBP_30x42Full.set do not require a fence and will exclude the cut line from the printed plot
when plotted via Iplot and used in conjunction with FBPs latest standard border file.
