ABSTRACT Strategies for a Didactic Museum: Possible Approaches to the Exposition of Antiquities. The aim of this paper
is to define the didactic role of the Archaeological Museum: our focus is addressed towards an aspect of primary importance that is
too often neglected, that the structure of the museum should involve a real teaching task and the whole complex must be thought of
as a living environment able to lead visitors through well organized, original, and easily accessible paths. The Museum itself should
enumerate among its first goals that of reaching the ears of the visiting people in a straightforward manner, as if it could really speak
to the public with a crystal clear voice.
This task can be accomplished with a well planned mixture of sections, paths and preparations, all joined in a multimedia environment
capable of emphasizing the beauty of the arts with entertaining possibilities.
We should reconsider the traditional containers purchased in catalogues and at exhibition waysides in favor of new architectural means
like glass walls and other creative solutions able to nullify the distance between the spectacle and the spectators (e.g. MAEC Museum
at Cortona).
Nowadays the archaeological museum is no longer a comprehensive collection of a whole century, but can be created around a precise
topic or even an isolated object; even better is when installations can take place in proximity to archeological ruins.
