CH2802:LABREPORTINSTRUCTIONSJAN2015

GENERALINSTRUCTIONS:

1. Each student will submit a total of 8 reports including 2 Formal Laboratory reports in the
semester.Laboratorysessionsshown(inLabSchedulefile)inBOLDandunderlinedindicate
theexperimentsforwhichFormalLaboratoryReportsarerequired.
2. All lab reports are to be submitted online through NTUlearn. Only softcopies will be
accepted.FoldersfordifferentexperimentshavebeencreatedundertheAssignmentstab.
Makesuretosubmitthereportsintheappropriatefolders.AllfilesmustbecompiledasPDF
files. Other file types shall not be accepted. Name your files using the following guideline
(LabCode_Author.pdf),e.g.C1_Mukta.pdf
3. Itisthestudentsresponsibilitytoensureproperandtimelysubmissionofthereport.
4. Reportdue:indicatebywhichdateyoushouldsubmityourreports,by12midnight.
5. Latesubmissionwillnotbegraded.
6. Yourreportswillbesubjectedtosoftwarescanningforplagiarism. Plagiarism of any form
shall get all parties involved a direct zero.
7. Policiesonmakeuplabs:
Ifastudentmisseslabsduetothefollowingreasons:
validMC(notfromChinesedoctor)
passingawayofimmediatefamily(parents,siblings,grandparents)
participateinanactivityrepresentingNTU
Thenamakeuplabwillbearranged.
Otherwisestudentgets0forthatlab.
8. Makeuplabs:PleasecontactyourTAsandTEsformakeuplabarrangementsatleasttwo
weeksinadvance.
9. PleasereadtheLabManualbeforehandandrefreshedtherelatedtheory.
10. Be relevant in content, concise in expression and correct in the use of English. Grades
awardedwilldependonthequalityofthereport,notquantity.
11. The formats set out below will be used to record all laboratory experiments. If there are
modificationsorspecialrequirementsforaparticularexperiment,yourTAorTEwillgiveyou
thenecessaryinstructions.

GuidelinesonthestructureofSHORTREPORTS:
1. ItshouldbepreparedonA4sizedpapers/graphpapers.
2. Itshouldcontainconcisedescriptionsoftheexperiment,therawdata,results,discussions
andconclusion.
3. Itshouldnotexceed8pages.

GuidelinesonthestructureofLONGREPORTS:
Theformatofthereportshouldbeasfollows:
a. TitlePage(1Pageonly)
b. Aim(Onesentencedescribingtheobjectivesoftheexperiment).
c. Abstract
d. Principles(max2Pages)
e. EquipmentandMaterials(max1Page):Giveabriefdescriptionoftheequipment
andmaterialsyouused.Ifdetaileddescriptionsarerequired,theyshouldbeplaced
intheAppendix.Illustrationsbysimplediagramsmaysaveyoualongdescription.
Providetitlesandlabelyourdiagramsclearlyandrefertotheminyourtextbyusing
aclearnumberingsystem(e.g.Fig.1AVenturiMeter).
f. Procedure(max1Page):Describebrieflyinthecorrectsequencetheimportant
aspectsoftheprocedureyouadoptedtoconducttheexperimentandobtainthe

results,explaininganymodificationsyouhavemadetotheinstructionsinthe
Manual.Usethepasttensetoreportontheprocedure.DONOTREPRODUCETHE
HANDOUT.
g. Results
h. Discussion:Inthissection,youdiscussthefindingsandresultsofyourwork.You
mightwanttoexplainanydifferencesbetweenyourmeasurementsandtheoretical
predictionsbycomparingthetheoreticalcurvewiththeexperimentalcurve.Also,
youmightwanttoaccountforanyerrorsandsuggestimprovementsthrough
modificationtotheexperiment/projectequipment,procedureorprecautionstobe
taken.Youmaydrawdeductionsfromtheresults.
