Installation:

WARNING
Ensurethattheantennaandcoaxialcable
thatthesurgearrestorisprotectingisnot
exposedtodirectlightningstrikes.This
deviceoffersnoprotectionforsuch
strikesandwillbedestroyed,alongwith
whateverequipmentthatitisconnected
to,byadirectstrike.

Notice:
Theinstallation,maintenance,orremovalof
antennaandsurgearrestorsystemsrequires
qualified,experiencedpersonnel.These
installationrecommendationsarewrittenfor
suchpersonnel.Installationsofthistypeof
energysuppressionequipmentshouldbemade
inaccordancewithlocalsafetyandelectrical
codesandwithregardtogoodelectricaland
engineeringpractices.Ifyouhavequestions
regardingtheuseofthistypeofproductwith
respecttoyourinstallation,contactalocal
licensedelectricalcontractorforthelatest
electricalcodesandguidelines.Innoevent
shallMasterclock,Inc.beliableforanydirect,
indirect,special,incidental,orconsequential
damagescausedfromtheinstallationoruseof
thisproduct.

Formaximumprotectioninstalltwosurgearrestors,one
outside,eitherclosetotheantennaoratthepointwherethe
coaxialcableentersthebuildingandasecondasclosetothe
receivingequipment.Agoodruleofthumbtorememberisthat
alllinesenteringorexitingabuildingneedprotection.
TheSA90isabidirectionalRFdevice.EitherRFportmaybe
connectedtotheequipmentsideortheantennasideofthe
transmissionlineinterfacetoprovideprotection.Donotleave
theRFportsexposedwheninstalledoutdoors.
Thesurgearrestormustbegroundedbyattachingaground
wiretothegroundinglug.Thiswiremustbeattachedtoa
mastergroundbarorthesystemsearthgroundingtoensurea
lowimpedancepathtoground.Duringinstallation,all
groundingcontactsurfacesmustbeclean,dry,andfreeof
oxidation.

GroundingRecommendations:
Aprotectionsystemwithapoorgroundisthesameashaving
noprotectionatall.
Recommendedgroundsaretheutilitycompanyground,a
groundrod,wellcasings,andcoldwaterpipesthatareof
continuousmetal.Anoteofcaution,sometimesthemetalcold
waterpipesarerepairedand/orextendedPVCpiping.The
introductionofPVCmaterialrendersthecoldwaterpipe
groundunacceptable.Athoroughinvestigationofacoldwater
pipegroundisimportantsincethePVCrepairsorextensions
maybecoveredbydrywall.Groundsthatareunacceptable
includesprinklerpipes,PVCpipe,conduit,buriedwireandany
groundthatcannotbeverified.
Bondingensuresthemosteffectiveground.Bondingtiesallof
thegroundsinthebuildingtogetherelectrically.Ifthereisa
riseingroundpotentialandallofthegroundsarebonded,no
damagewilloccursinceitisdifferentialvoltagethatcauses
problems.
Itisabsolutelynecessarytomakesurethatthegroundusedfor
theACpoweristhesameasthegroundusedforthedataline
surgeprotectors.Acommongroundreferencemustbe
achievedforallequipment.
Allgroundwiresmustbeasshortaspossibleanditis
imperativethatthegroundwirenotbecoilednorloopedit
mustbeasstraightaspossible.Regardingthediameterofthe
groundwire:thelargerthebetter.
Finally,theearthgroundresistanceonwhichthewhole
groundingsystemrelies,mustbelessthan5ohmsbetweenany
twopointswithinthegroundsystem.
