New concept since 3.6 built-in eval licenses for all features, which when turned on, (sh
Evaluation licenses are metered licenses, which are valid only for a limited period. This
period is the usage period (of 60 days length) of a license and it is not based on the real
time or system clock, i.e. the clock ticks when said feature is configured on the router.
These evaluation licenses are built into the image, so they are not node locked but also
cannot be removed.
Evaluation licenses will be valid for 60 days of license usage (router is running for 60 days
with the license checked out, although it can be paused if (say) you want to only test for a
few days per month until the 60 days-worth is up). Close to the time when an evaluation
license expires, there will be syslog messages on console and also the feature will be
automatically converted to RTU license, and it will continue functioning.
What is an RTU? Functionally the same thing as a permanent license (no difference),
except that the honor-based paper license terms (EULA) are different for an RTU.

ASR1002-X supports IOS software redundancy the Single RP may be configured with
dual IOS.
Two IOS process in a single RP function similar to different processes on separate RP.
Support all NSF/SSO features supported by dual-RP systems.
In order to achieve this, 8GB of memory is required in the ASR1002-X.
Software redundancy helps when there is a RP-IOS failure/crash; the active process will
switchover to the standby, while forwarding continues with zero packet loss.
Other software crashes (example: SIP or ESP) cannot benefit from Software redundancy.
The software upgrade procedure for ASR1002-X allows customers to upgrade the RP-IOS
package only as the first step of the software upgrade procedure and defer all the other
steps to a later time example: Maintenance window.
This allows customers to take advantage of any bug fixes of RP-IOS (or in the case of a
PSIRT) available in the next rebuild while maintaining the router in service.
