Questions to Ponder and/or Tasks to Perform.
1. Visit the www.tbchad.com. From the Infoquest Information Services briefly discussed/or
answer the following:
1.1 What is the formula for an effective research strategy on the Internet?

Define your goals.

Analyze your information-finding project. Break it down into its component parts.
Determine why you need this information and what you plan to do with it. This will
make your information search clear to you and easier to conduct.
Determine the types of information you need to answer your question.
Knowing the kinds of information you want will help you choose the resources and
tools that will best meet your needs. Are you looking for statistics, in-depth books,
magazine articles, expert comments, product reviews, etc.?
Identify keywords, phrases, and subject categories to use in your search.
Play with your search terms, use synonyms, distinctive terms, alternative spellings
(the Internet is international). Search by topic, company, product, person's name, etc.
Read the instructions and tips and techniques for using the search tools you use.
Understand the types of information each tool covers and the kinds of search options
you have. Read FAQs and welcome instructions for interest groups before posting.
Use more than one source and search tool.
Although there is duplication among sources on sites, queries performed on different
search engines usually produce different results. Try specialized sites. Use search
tools that search not only the WWW, but interest groups, ftp, gopher, and other sites.
Use both keyword and subject guides.
Practice Netiquette.
Be considerate of others in doing your research. Not just interest groups, but paying
attention to time of day and length of time on a service; logging off. Filling out
registration and comment forms; viewing sponsors information -- will keep
information online.
Review your progress.
Look at some of the most promising records and see if there are other terms that you
can use to sharpen or widen your search. Compare what you've learned with what you
decided you wanted to learn in step 1. Make adjustments or redirect your focus if
necessary.
Practice critical thinking!
Evaluate the information you find. Don't accept what you read as the truth: get
confirming sources, ask questions, talk to experts, probe for motivations, and use your
intuition -- if something just doesn't sound right, check it out further.

b. Advanced Composites in Bridge Construction and Repair by Yail Kim

Advanced composite materials for bridge structures are recognized as a
promising alternative to conventional construction materials such as steel.
After an introductory overview and an assessment of the characteristics of bonds
between composites and quasi-brittle structures, Advanced Composites in Bridge
Construction and Repair reviews the use of advanced composites in the design
and construction of bridges, including damage identification and the use of large
rupture strain fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. The second part of the
book presents key applications of FRP composites in bridge construction and
repair, including the use of all-composite superstructures for accelerated bridge
construction, engineered cementitious composites for bridge decks, carbon fiberreinforced polymer composites for cable-stayed bridges and for repair of
deteriorated bridge substructures, and finally the use of FRP composites in the
sustainable replacement of ageing bridge superstructures.

interaction.
5. When did you start using the internet? Which website do you frequently visit? What is
the impact of internet in your daily life and in your job performance? Discuss your
internet or on-line experience in a two paragraph format using MS Word.
I started to us the internet since 1997. I frequently visit Yahoo.com,
wikimapia.org, facebook.com, linkedin.com and so many others.
For me, without internet, it is like the world would be lifeless. All people around
the world rely on internet for most of their communications. Including our work, we rely
much on the internet because we use emails in the work places. Our mobile phones are
equipped with internet applications and connections. Everywhere and every time in our
daily lives, we directly or indirectly need the internet. We do bank transactions on the
internet.
If I would analyze the importance of internet, I would say from my experience
itself that it would be difficult to perform the usual things that we are doing everyday
without the internet. Our communication is mainly running on the internet. Our job
involves internet usage. It is like living in the pre-historic times if we would not have
internet in our lives.
6. What was your worst experienced in using the internet (being hacked, virus breakout
from your machine, spam, spoof, etc?). Share your unforgettable or worst internet
experienced.
My worst experience with the internet is when I lost the password of my previous email
account. It gave me a difficulty because most of my valuable information was stored in
that email address. I kept information in that but I dont know why suddenly one day I
could not open that email account. So this gave me a lesson and the next time that I

P a g e | 14
started to use again an email account I made sure that I know how to take care of my
account.
