ABOUT ME
Hi! Its Beatriz from Santiago, a little city in the north of Spain. I was studying architecture during
four years in Barcelona when I decided that it was time to move, it was time to leave and it was time
to open myself to new possibilities. Thats why I went on exchange to study the first year of master
in architecture in KTH as you will notice when you will continue reading through my portfolio. What
can I say about it? It was amazing!I didnt want to come back in Barcelona so I applied for another
scholarship to come to Australia. Since I was a kid Australia was always in my mind as a big dreamt
spot. I was really lucky and I got it! So another exciting year was waiting for me in Sydney and here
I am, on the other side of the world living one of the dreams I have ever had. I used to be a professional swimmer, I swam during 20 years of my life and my trainer was always telling me: dream, Bea,
dream and fight for what you want. I think it was one of the best lessons I have ever had, not just
for swimming, for all the aspects in my life. And it is the same in architecture, now that it is one of the
most important parts of myself, I want to build it properly and grow in the domain as much as possible.
What else could I say? Driven by my ever-growing curiosity I just cant stop travelling and learning
new things every day. But it is not just architecture, there are always other hobbies that teach you as
much as architecture can do. I love drawing, painting and just spending afternoons taking pictures!
My passion for art and design started since I was a little girl, I was always painting and inventing new
objects with stuff that I found at home. Furthermore, I have always liked maths and physics and for
me it is very interesting how architecture mixes art and science at the same time. I could continue
talking and talking but I will stop and just let you go inside this color wheel, page by page until arrive
to the end (if you dont get bored on the way) and have the perfect circle done of my architecture life
until now. Thank you!
Hi! I am a very enthusiastic architecture student who loves invastigate and innovate in all life aspects. Driven by my ever-growing curiosity I just cant stop travelling and learning
new things every day. Im a easy to work with, friendly girl. I love drawing, photography and of course architecture! Thats why I decided to study at Barcelona, in fact I am from
Santiago, on the opposite corner, what an amazing city!
My passion for art and design started since I was a little girl, I was always painting and inventing new objects with stuff that I found at home. Furthermore, I have always liked maths
and phisics and for me it is very interesting how architecture convines art and science at the same time. I also love the psychological , to understand people needs, what they want,
how they are and I would like to make people life much more easier with my designs...
What is more, I have been swimming during all my life. This developped my strong personality, endeavor and desire to fight for what I want.
Secret dream: design an Olympic swimming .
Secret place where the secret dream comes true: an atelier in the center of New York.

Autonomous Campus Studio
EMBASSY
Individual proyect
By: Beatriz de Ua Bveda
The Autonomous Campus will explore the campus forms through the lens of the Embassy. Starting from ignoring specifics pertaining to scale and context, the purpose will be
to create an abstract machine. This system controls the income parameters to generate
differentiated outcomes. The idea come by the concept of creating an antibuilding, deconstructing the general notion of an embassy in all its scales and explore the limits by
blurring spatial boundaries. In order to deal with the defense diagram the idea is to propose
a trap machine which allows to split and mix the different spaces from the given program.

EVELOPMENT OF MODELS
FIRST STUDIES
1. This was our first design. It
was useful to know how lamellas
worked and we started thinking
about the structure we would
need in the future to give the
shape we wanted to the lamellas

CARDBOARD
PERFORMANCE TESTING
Length: 700mm
Width: 1mm
Fail point: < 180O (Fail lines could be seen in the card
after 135O)
Observations: Of the three the cardboard was the least
suited to a torqued structural form. Although it could be
turned to 180o failures were apparent within the card.
Width: 2mm
Observations: When tested while building models, the cardboard
presented definite limitations for what could be created. If it was
not thick enough the cardboard would deform and fail. Even
when thicker lamellas were used, torqueing and delamination
had to be kept low for the structure to be stable and predictable.
Although cardboard is the cheapest material investigated, it has
a limited tensile strength and for that reason we believe it is not
suitable for a 1:1 model. A composite material may be a better
alternative.
PERFORMANCE MODIFICATION
The first performance modification testing of this
system was done in cardboard. 2 patterns were
tested to see if the shape and size of the holes
had a great effect on the material performance
of cardboard. Both greatly improved the
flexibility and torqueing capacity of the material.
The straight perforations were less flexible than
the diamond.

PERFORMANCE TESTING
Length: 700mm
Width: 1mm
Fail point: > 360o (lost form at 135O)
Observations: The acrylic did not snap at any point of torqueing.
However, the material was unpredictable and lost its form after 135o.
If used for an installation torqueing would have to be limited to ensure
structural integrity.

3MM ROPE & EXISTING STRUCTURE
In order to understand how much

pressure the rope and roof system can
manage a 3mm rope was connected
to a hook in the existing ceiling grid
and weighted first with a 75kg man
and then with 5 x 25kg sand bags.
The structure performed well under
both circumstances however the sand
bags broke before the 125kg was
properly settled.

PERFORMANCE MODIFICATION
The first wood performance modification
testing was done in MDF. Using a series of
cuts in the material it is possible to greatly
increase flexibility.
PROTOTYPE
INSTALLATION
Length: 1000mm
Width: 2.5mm
Fail point: < 180o (140o)
Observations: Of the four materials tested the MDF was the most solid
material up until its breaking point. This material would be an appropriate
choice for a solid structure provided torqueing was always less than 140o.

EXISTING STRUCTURE
CEILING HOOKS

The structural wires were first connected to hooks
in the existing ceiling grid. After tensioning the
hooks were noticeably bent.
In order to create a varied ceiling connection for
11486
rope system the wire is weaved along the ceiling.
Hooks were tested and judge inappropriate due to
sliding.
CEILING BOLTS
The wires were then connected directly to bolts in the grid. While there is
some bending, it was significantly more effective.
By having 2 nuts on one bolt in the ceiling grid offers a secure groove for the

COLUMN CONNECTIONS
To avoid damaging the main structure for the
building alternative systems were investigated. By
connecting a wire to existing steel extrusions it is
possible to avoid puncturing the column.

Individual project
By: Beatriz de Ua Bveda
The project is construction, structure, facilities, and all of that which can be possibly useful
through their relationship as a whole in a coherent set of intentions which try to approach the resolving of the real problems or circumstances or simply reality. An understanding of the identity
of the place will lead us to the absolute conviction that the residential project cannot and should
not be approached as something abstract. Its contribution to the definition of our cities is vital.
The relationship of project with site, or the indissoluble complementarities of building and public
space are basic and inescapable issues. This proximity to the alleged circumstances must not
be understood as resignation but in fact the contrary, as it is only in a world of real vicissitudes
which the project can develop fully.

LOCATION
This project, based on the creation of a road between two villages, proposes an idea based on
the relationship between sport and nature. Thanks to the figure-eight track and traffic systems,
you can create an area easily accessible sport linked to the use of green areas. The project is
located in different parts of the road needing a connecting thread between the different complexes.
This idea aims to make sport accessible to all local people and attract all ages. This offers a variety of sports complex and a nice walk between them. You can go running, swimming, climbing
and more. Feel relaxed and confortable!

LOCATION
In search of the architectural and spatial form for the designed sports hall in La Roca I decided
to use the coating system. This type of design is characterized by freshness, terseness and coherence in form and in contents of a function. The design consists of one-curvature in concrete
which will cover the space of the sports hall.
The designed sports hall is located squarely on its parcel, acknowledging that approach roads
and pedestrian roads. The layout of the hall aggregate is made up of two elements: the higher
and dominating mass of the hall and the lower mass implying concurrent program, located on
the north side of the halls mass, along the boundary with adjoining parcel.

NEIGHBORHOOD
Neighbourhoods are often social communities with considerable face-to-face interaction among
members.
Childhood memories and imagining the places that I have lived give me the deepest sense of
identity. The linkage between mind and space becomes most vibrant.
In this proposal, the apartment buildings are treated as a living medium tradition. They are carefully transformed through measured addition and subtraction of space and program.
The project has three rows of houses with a square that gives life to the place. Next to this
square you can finde a swimming pool with very nice views of the valley.

LOCATION
The building occupies the entire parecela, being the auction of a block of houses and thus
hiding an unfortunate dividing.
The center develops on three levels. The first two with a maximum height of neighboring houses
crop up urban planning of the street. The third level stands but retired from playing in the main
road section with the height of the church he is given a certain role. This results in a volume
exploded while trying to lay low and play a leading role along with the historic building.
The architectural solution is a structure where almost all surfaces and spaces have more than
one function..

LOCATION
This project aimed to create a new lighting system so that water could be a type
of furniture both decorative and functional. After much analysis of the material and
how it has achieved a lamp ergonomic and sustainable by using solar energy. It
is an object that can be used fully autonomous individually or collectively. Intended
for ports and beaches but could extend itself to use many aquatic situations. It is
designed for the future realization of a development on the water, allowing in turn
structuring marine route.

RIG
THE
RIG
More than 70 percent of the worlds surface is covered with water and the avaliable land ressources are shrinking every
day. So shouldnt we think about urbanizing the sea in the future? The suggestion is to reuse the more than 4500 soonbe-deserted oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, as a base and resource for a new vertical urbanism. We can profit from the
existing foundations and the tons of unused steel aswell as the existing infrastructure.
The project questions the contamporary urban planning by verticalizing the typical horizontal urbanism. To achieve the
verticality we work with cubes which accommodate the main program while the net-like non rectangular connections
open up public spaces and connections between the different cubes. The grid is both our supporting structure and the
body housing for the infrastrucutre. This structure can be understood as a 3D masterplan which is adaptable in size and
shape to various architectural and cultural typologies.
For the project a specific site in the Mexican part of the Gulf is choosen considering the climate, the size and the architectural expression of the sourrounding cities. It is a cluster of six oil rigs, 70 km away from the coast of Mexico, which
will serve as a foundation for our vertical village. The project is theoretcally and physically connected to the city
Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico.
