2014-2015 SCIENCE FAIR

All information and data is recorded in your Science Fair logbook (a new composition
notebook). **Each of the entries below is a typed product turned in
separately from the logbook.

Due dates (subject to change):

Logbook checks

**Every time you turn in a portion of the experiment, you will

turn in your logbook for a check. All raw data, procedures,
ideas, background information, rough drafts etc will be in
this notebook under the date completed. Entries in the
logbook are handwritten on the pages of the notebook, not
printed then pasted onto the pages.
Go to www.sciencefairoracle.com to register for the Science
Fair. All ISEF forms will be there for you to complete online
prior to experimentation.

3 Ideas for your experiment/ Group Project Form Due

Include a purpose and a short paragraph explaining your experimental
plan. (This is not a procedure; it is an overview of the procedure.)
Think about the amount of time that you have to complete the lab. Can
you complete it in time? Is fall a good season to do this lab? Will any
ordered materials be here in time?
Remember that you are responsible for the supplies. Consider how
much it will cost to do the experiment.
Your experiment can be in any Science discipline. It must be approved
by me. Proof of approval is my signature next to the idea in your
notebook.

Background Information and Bibliography

Typed Final Draft: Write an introduction about the concepts covered in
your experiment (3 to 8 typed pages). This could include research on
variables or techniques used in your procedure. Remember this is
research information that you need in order to design the experiment
or interpret the information. This is not a summary of the experiment;
this is just research on your topic.
Include a bibliography in MLA format. You must have a minimum of 5
resources and not all of them can be internet sources. You must have
at least one non-digital source. E-books, online newspapers or
magazines are digital sources.
Logbook: Your logbook can have bulleted notes from each source on a
different page. Each page will also contain the source in MLA format.

10/10

Hypothesis/Materials/Procedure
Typed Final Draft: Be sure to give quantities on the materials. Use
numbered steps for the procedure. Remember, your experiment must
produce quantitative data. You must be able to do a statistical analysis
of your data.

2014-2015 SCIENCE FAIR

Remember, you must have a minimum of 50 data sets for each
control/experimental group (per person in your group). If you have a
group of two, you will need 100 data sets.
Note: If you are working with humans, you must have a minimum of 25
people in each group (per group member). You can do two trials to get
50 data sets.
If you are modifying a procedure from another source, cite under the
procedure to avoid a zero for plagiarism.
Logbook: Rough draft of hypothesis, materials, and procedures
10/13
date.
